Cross should have been fired, but the fact that a HC needed to fire his DC 14 games into his tenure is a bad omen. I think if the Tigers regress, and they will, firing Odom isn't out of the question. Will come down to if Sterk can hustle boosters enough and he can guarantee them a good hire.
The promise with BB buys him some clout. Turnover this quickly isn't ideal, but the previous guy had a long tenure and this guy is some other AD's coach.
