Reminder about the Chiefs 2018 Draft.

Due to the wheelings and dealings of Dorsey and Veach, it can be easy to be confused about what picks the Chiefs have and where.

Normally, teams get 7 picks, one in each round:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

However:
  • The Chiefs spent their 1st rounder this year, moving up for QB Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft's 1st round.
  • They also spent their 5th rounder this year trading for backup swing tackle Cam Erving out of Cleveland.
  • They also spent their 6th in an effort to trade off CB Marcus Peters.
  • They also spent their 7th this year in a trade last year for CB Kenneth Acker from the 49ers.
That leaves us here:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

The Chiefs likely have several picks coming in, however:
  • The Chiefs have acquired a 3rd rounder when they traded off Alex Smith.
  • The Chiefs have received a 2018 4th and a 2019 2nd when they traded off Marcus Peters.
  • The Chiefs have received a 6th round compensatory pick for Nick Foles.
  • The Chiefs traded CB Marcus Cooper last season for a conditional 7th this year.
  • The Chiefs traded backup DE David King to the Titans for a conditional 7th rounder.
That leaves us here:

2.
3. <---- Smith trade
3.
4.
4. <---- Peters trade
6. <---- Foles compensatory
7. <---- King conditional
7. <---- Cooper conditional

And that, right there, is currently what the Chiefs 2018 NFL Draft looks like.
(Though I'd bet anything that Veach will move all over the place on the 3rd day of the draft.)

The Chiefs have also made a pair of trades that affect the 2019 NFL Draft:
  • The Chiefs received a 2019 2nd round pick in the trade of CB Marcus Peters.
  • The Chiefs traded a 2019 4th rounder to the Buffalo Bills for ILB Reggie Ragland.
  • The Chiefs also traded WR Rod Streater for the 49ers for a conditional 7th round swap of draft picks (i.e. since it's very likely the Chiefs will be better than the 49ers in 2018, they'll have a lower draft pick in 2019 -- so if Streater met whatever conditions the teams set, their draft picks will swap).
This leaves the 2019 Chiefs Draft currently looking like this:

1.
2.
2 (Peters).
3.
4.
5.
6.
7 (Streater).
7.

Don't get used to it. If there's anything we know about this Veach kid, it's that he does not sit on his laurels.

LMAO

That conditional swap of 7ths for Rod Streater was waaaaaaaaay more trouble than it's worth

Direckshun 09-19-2017 09:55 PM

Hey that swap is the difference between Stacy Coley and Jack Tocho*!

* Actual players drafted at the 49ers and Chiefs draft slots in the 7th round of the 2017 draft. Both were actually drafted by the Vikings. Coley is a WR that has played 7 total snaps -- including special teams -- and was inactive Week 2. Jack Tocho is a DB that was waived before the start of the season.

Or you could just go here and they do it for you (except for compensatory guesses): http://www.prosportstransactions.com...tTrades/Years/

BTW, all those 6th's and 7ths = Opportunity for Fatties. :D

Smith trade has updated the OP.

I will update again when Marcus Peters compensation is confirmed.

Updated with the reports from the Peters trade.

If we can hit on our 3's and 4's, we'll be in great shape.

We can't afford to miss on these picks.

Dorsey loved workout warriors, hopefully Veach loves good players.

7th round picks have about a 5% chance of making the team.

There's going to be a good player available when the Chiefs pick in the 4th round using the Rams pick.

I'm guessing it'll be a gadget type player, a bigger version of DAT, a guy that can line up at running back and slot receiver.

True but it's better than chasing after a guy as UDFA, where there's competition to sign.

Hey, I know a guy that could do that.

Another pick that gives KC a chance to add Jaylen Samuels late. We need defense but he’s a great value pick in round 4

Chargem 02-26-2018 02:59 PM

I hope we package the 2019 second up to move up in the 2018 draft, I'd rather they got someone who can have a year to develop with the team this year and then contribute well in 2019

RealSNR 02-26-2018 03:06 PM

When do we find out if those conditional 7ths actually give us anything? Isn't it the player we traded away has to meet a specific benchmark in order to grant us that 7th?

I don't think Battle or King met those requirements for their new teams. We might get something for Cooper.

Does that mean if Cooper is the only one that we only have one 7th rounder?
