Kind of a cool site that will run a sim simultaneous with the launch to show where it's at:

http://www.flightclub.io/world.php?watch=1&code=SES9

(Also note that the streaming links in the OP will always work.)

Donger 02-25-2016 05:29 PM

Are they going to actually show the launch, or just play this creepy music?

LMAO

Donger 02-25-2016 05:30 PM

Woohoo!

DaFace 02-25-2016 05:31 PM

I actually kind of dig the hosted broadcasts. Sure, you miss some of the pre-launch polling, but I like that they explain some of the details about the launch.

Side-by-side view on SpaceXStats is pretty sweet, though.

Sounds like they're really struggling with the supercooled LOX. I hope that "improvement" doesn't end up being a giant pain the ass.

It's a new (essentially) propellant, so it seems like they are having trouble getting the kinks worked out with it.

(sigh)

It's funny - watching rocket launches is not that dissimilar to watching sports when it comes down to it. Lots of waiting, a lot of minor disappointment, and every once in a while you feel like you got kicked in the nuts.

Hydrae 02-25-2016 05:55 PM

I have to say that it cool that they over 80k viewers on the webcast. I like that people are showing this much interest.

eDave 02-25-2016 05:58 PM

The trouble is in keeping the LOX at the right temp. Too early and it's too warm. Too late and you miss a full load like today.

Yeah, I'm just hoping that the problems are just a matter of getting the kinks worked out. They're really banked on the extra power from the F9FT, so it'd be pretty disappointing if it ended up causing a lot of long-term issues.

And you're going to need to stuff a lot of lox into the tank, what's on top in the pic is what you'll need. Wait to buy it on the other end, if you leave it in your luggage your shirts are going to smell in no time...

The Heavy launches are great. Three rockets strapped together. Love the night launches, the whole sky lights up with an orange glow.

DaFace 02-26-2016 02:43 PM

Wonder why they haven't officially announced Sunday yet. Hope that holds.

As for the LOX issue, presumably they would have loaded it normally during the static fire, so I wonder if there's some reason that things aren't performing reliably the same way every time. I wouldn't think that external temperature variation would matter much, but who knows why else they would've just plain missed the mark.

GloryDayz 02-26-2016 03:49 PM

I also wonder how long a rocket can sit outside like that? Or will the bring it in?

They lower it down horizontally overnight at least, but I doubt they bother bringing it inside unless there's an issue with the vehicle itself that needs to be addressed. Otherwise, I can't imagine weather would have any appreciable impact on it for quite a while.

eDave 02-26-2016 04:27 PM

The Range Support and ER Maintenance Downtime rows are driving me crazy. I can't even.

What do I not understand? Formatting. My god, why don't you know this? All rows should be of same height if the cell is less than 30 characters. If it is more than 30 character, look into reworking your cell content.

No wonder jobs get outsourced. Much cheaper labor at least understands this basic data reporting rule.

Go back to school.

No issues with the spaceship. New reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/spacex/comm...ssion_updates/

Generally, I THINK it means that either 1) something moved into the area nothing's allowed right now for safety or 2) some piece of equipment monitoring such screwed up.

The additional cost should be deferred to that damned ship. We'd be in orbit otherwise.

Now NOT scrubbed. 51m left on launch window. This is all over the place.

No joke. At this rate, I almost wish they would just scrub. I'll be holding my breath expecting it to blow up if they go for it tonight still.
