So, when in the 'timeline' is this supposed to be happening... before Infinity War, after Endgame? I'm assuming before Infinity War.

ThaVirus 01-15-2019 09:37 AM

Mysterio's work sort of looks like Strange's magic.

I wonder if those are actually Sandman and Hydroman or just Mysterio illusions.

That's what I was thinking, it looks like Mysterio is trying to pretend to be a hero and those are his illusions for whatever purpose, but it did look like Doctor Strange's magic, and maybe that's how they explain it. That's its more for show than actual Magic.

Everything in the trailer was awesome except for 'MJ." What an annoying whiner.

I'm in. The kids will see it with me because they loved the first one.

Anyone else think this kind of screws with Endgame? I mean, now obviously Spidey is going to survive somehow.

Just seems weird.

What? When did she whine? Are you mad because she isn't ginger?

edit: She has literally two ****ing lines in this trailer and doesn't whine about anything. I'm pretty sure you're just being a bitch and hate that she isn't ginger.

Also, it looks like we get a bit of the stealth spidey.

We already knew that anyway.

Sequels for Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man and Black Panther were all confirmed prior to Infinity War.

Anybody who came out of Infinity War thinking that all of those characters were staying dead......doesn't get comic books.

No, her name is Michelle Jones. They're being cute with the initials, but if initials are all the two characters have in common can you really call it a reinterpretation of Mary Jane?

Also for the record, in the comics, Peter didn't meet Gwen or Mary Jane until he was in college.

Everybody bitching about comics and what they think is a new trend in taking on social justice issues is laughable. What the **** do you think comics were doing throughout their entire existence? Other than maybe the early Superman and early Batman, they were taking on social issues of the time. Stan Lee himself said so many times that he was trying to bring awareness of the issues forward. I guess you hate Stan Lee for that? Shit, wait, Superman was actually kicking Nazi ass before the US even declared war. A large number of Americans supported Germany before we joined, so Siegel and Shuster must have been pissing those people off with their view of social issues.

Deep down why do you care if the newest version of MJ isn't white? Why is that so upsetting to you? Seriously, why?

Peter goes to a ****ing inner city school and somehow historically all his classmates are ****ing white... that is the least realistic thing in a series about a human gaining spider power.

This came up in the spiderverse thread too. Somebody was pissed that Doc Oc in an alternate universe was female, and that iconic characters shouldn't be altered, yet they weren't bitching at all about the giant ****ing dragon version of Green Goblin.

For **** sake, the X-Men comics are nearly entirely about treating everybody as equal and not judging them by their appearance or physical abilities. WTF do you think that is about?

Of course comics have always had the socialist/progressive undertones. I didn't read them to find my political center.

I think people finally had enough when they decided to start just straight gender swapping the most popular characters. Why did Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, any of them have to become female at the Secret Wars reset? You want a female Iron Man, develop a new character and have one, but don't nuke a long time favorite in the name of femininity or some SJW agenda. Do some work and actually MAKE a new character that can compete with/against the old one. Anyone not named Logan trying to be Wolverine is nothing but a poser, no matter the sex, and that includes X-23 (and she's pretty awesome). Goes for all the old time, long time characters. IMHO, of course.

One is totally made up (SJW searching for "issues" to be outraged about), one is based in reality of actual injustice.

There are actual issues in our world today that need addressed. Lazy writing from SJW lunatics isn't doing anything of the sort.

There's a big difference between raising issues of social justice and being an SJW.

Women's suffrage, the civil rights movement, slavery: all legit social justice issues.

Free tampons, imaginary genders, and fanatical hatred of anything dissimilar are completely different.

SJW's are a complete perversion of liberalism and "tolerance." It's not a one sided problem: republicans hijacked morality in the 80's and 90's to suppress free speech in music and media. Now the Dems are.

Well said.

Although it should be noted that Tipper Gore (Democrat Al Gore's wife) was the one who started the PMRC. ;)

Stan Lee always had the good sense to bring up social issues with analogy and alegory. Marvel, currently, does not use the A&A approach. Marvel now spells everything out for the reader and throws social justice (Maoist) content into the comics in a very ham-fisted way. that's why the comics dont/wont sell

Exactly. It's all in the storytelling.

Mysterio. In the comics he was a goofy villain with no superpowers. Big dome over his head so you could never see his face. He was an illusionist. Used hallucinogenic gasses and holograms to create elaborate illusions. He would envelop himself in smoke to stay hidden and confuse his enemies. Seems weird that they would use him over so many other good villains, but whatever.

I'd bet a dollar that the giant monsters you see in the trailer are all just illusions. Mysterio is going to make himself a hero by defeating his own fake monsters, and then Spidey will get framed and have to prove the truth.

lawrenceRaider 05-06-2019 08:45 AM

I don't think the alternate timelines is a ruse, but yeah I'd venture a guess that he's beating his own monsters for some sort of plot reason. Mysterio was never a good guy in the comics, just a dorky villain with illusions. It looks like they give him magic powers in this one though, some off shoot of Dr. Strange's powers or something of the like. This newest trailer is pretty awesome though.

Really good trailer.

If that multiverse thing is real and not a red herring, maybe that's how they get the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. Would certainly explain why they weren't around yet in canon.

I know this is supposed to be the end of phase 2 but that sure looks like a place to start phase 3.

If that multiverse thing is real and not a red herring, maybe that's how they get the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. Would certainly explain why they weren't around yet in canon.

I know this is supposed to be the end of phase 2 but that sure looks like a place to start phase 3.

End of phase 3, start of 4.

IIRC, they said originally Endgame was the end of phase 3 but they added Spidey to it.

So make new heroes who fit that mold. Leave existing characters as they have always been. Changing them is just pandering and if not for the movies would have bankrupted Marvel.

Can't wait to see the reactions to that. Feige has already hinted at her possibly coming later to the mcu

Who cares. Let's not pretend majority of central characters arent white wash due to a different climate back then.

Ik okay with leaving Bruce wayne or Peter Parker as is..super man could be anyone..even iron Man imo

Word has been that they're introducing her in the Captain Marvel sequel, but who knows.

You could even do in a post-credit scene. You'd think that movie will take place a long way from Earth, picking up where the first movie left off.

New clip which explains the multiverse a little more

Apparently reactions are coming in on social media. Everyone saying stay through the credits and saying it may be the best Spiderman movie and one of the better Marvel movies. July 2nd

@JimVejvoda: I liked it a tad more than Spider-Man: Homecoming, which I loved. Far From Home is a great afterword for Endgame, closing out Marvel Phase 3 with a bang while also setting up new challenges and exciting stuff ahead. That's all I'm gonna say until my review runs.

I have read that the two after credits scenes are "paradigm shifting!"
