Baby Driver!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Holy hell this is a great movie! Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and a great young cast.

http://www.babydriver-movie.com/#get-tickets

An original idea, great writing, awesome action and old school car stunts, incredible acting. Really one of the Best movies I have seen in a long time. Not a dull moment. Kevin Spacey nails his part-one of his best performances. Foxx has not been this good since Ray.

Forget all the Superhero movies and dumb sequels-GO SEE THIS DURING THE HOLLIDAY!! An instant Cult favorite.

MahiMike 06-30-2017 09:29 AM

I can't stand Kevin spacey but I'll watch it anyway. Looks good.

Ignore all other considerations. Edgar Wright is all you need to know.

I agree- his dry humorless acting is annoying- but surprisingly, it works well with this movie. He had some great smart ass lines. His best part in a long time.

BTW the soundtrack is amazing as well- the music is not just in the background- it IS the movie.

This movie is not dumb and all.

Kevin Spacey is fantastic.

MahiMike 06-30-2017 07:07 PM

I've heard the soundtrack is pretty awesome. I only go to the movies on an annual basis. This looks like the one.

Why Not? 06-30-2017 07:12 PM

sully1983 07-01-2017 07:09 AM

The soundtrack makes the film. It blows away both Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks. I loved how Wright synched all the soundtrack with gun shots, action and dialogue. Really well done

Really dug this film and if you're familiar with Edgar Wright, you know he's talented (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim). This film was a lot of fun and definitely a good time at the theater .

At first, I was wondering why the music was synched up, but as the movie plays it is explained why Baby wears the earphones so much.

I did not realize it was the same director as those others. I have not seen Scott Pilgrim but liked the other two films.

I really enjoyed the car chases as well. They were done pretty realistically, unlike the stupid Fast and Furious where they are jumping buildings. Even the chase on foot was pretty exciting. Lots of action for sure.

I have never seen a Fast and Furious movie. I have also never seen a Transformers movie.

I'm pretty happy about this. :thumb:

Hammock Parties 07-03-2017 10:20 AM

One of the best movies I've seen in the last five years.

The way they blended action, cars, guns and music was nearly perfect.

And at no point did I think "huh, that looked fake."

It was kind of like Ferris Bueller, The Transporter and Kingsman had a threesome and produced a beautiful bastard child.

 Great summary.

I liked the shootouts as well. Someone standing in an open area shooting automatic weapons in each hand at cops- actually get their ass shot off like they would in real life. It gets old watching movies where the police have the shooting accuracy of Barney Fife. Police train for hours at gun ranges because their lives and safety of others depend on it. But in movies, they can't hit the broadside of a barn while the hero can surf on top of a speeding car and never miss.

Have only seen the promo stuff, but I still had to roll my eyes when Jamie Foxx's character delivered some line about 'catching a bullet'
. . .

With a SHOTGUN in his hand!!

:hmmm: I don't think he meant it as actually "catching" a bullet Ninja style.

Foxx plays a real sleazebag pos in this one, stone cold killer. One of his better performances.

Foxx was pretty amazing in Ray and has kind of slipped since then, I think this movie brings back how talented he really is.

I don't have the clip in front of me, but my recollection was he used it like he was going to 'put' a bullet in someone, . . . only shotguns don't shoot bullets.

EDIT: 'in this business, the moment you catch feelings, [racks shotgun] . . . is the moment you catch a bullet.'

listopencil 07-03-2017 01:49 PM

Okay that makes more sense, his character is kind of a dumbass. So it was either a mistake by the writer/director or meant to show what an idiot his character really is. He does a ton of shit talking, so I am thinking maybe the second option.

I get your point, hard to get into a movie when they have the details wrong. Like playing modern music meant for an older time period, showing car models not produced until years after, flubbing historic facts, or stuff like using a cell phone before they were invented.

I really hate when characters continually pick the worst option available- like when Jason Vorhees is in their home ready to hack someone up- the victim hides in a closet with no escape instead of just running out of the house. I start rooting for the killer.

We went and saw this today. I'd never even heard about it until I saw this thread yesterday.

I really liked it and loved the way the music was so integral to the plot and action.

Excellent movie.

The chase scene at the beginning was fantastic. The soundtrack is amazing. Very original. Great ass movie. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

* SPOILERS BELOW DONT READ IF HAVENT SEEN*

Anyone notice how it could fit into being a prequel to the movie "Drive"?

If you assume the ending was a dream sequence rather than reality then:

- He wanted to head west. Drive takes place in LA.
- falls in love with waitress. Same as drive.
- In Drive he rides in silence (because of events in Baby Driver).
- Wears similar style jackets in both.
- In Drive, he freaks out on the guy at the diner who says he wanted him for another job, he said he "doesn't do that anymore" and notice he's at a diner.
- In Baby Driver he makes sure he takes the money with him and eventually gets caught, T the end of Drive he leaves the money behind and drives in the sunset (what he wanted to do the first time)
- I believe Deborah dies or doesn't show up so the waitress he meets reminds him of her in Drive and has a soft spot for her.

I know before you talk snack that it wasn't intentional between the two, but is fun to consider haha

Same. I guess I read too much hype for the movie to live up to it.

I'm a big Damned fan though so it was neat, neat, neat to hear a Damned song in a major motion picture.

Agree to disagree. 🤝

Movie was mediocre at best. Didn't live up to the hype you guys threw out. Average at best low 3 star movie.

BigBeauford 08-03-2017 06:40 PM

Movie was great! Number two of the year behind Logan.

Deberg_1990 10-01-2017 07:37 PM

Awesome flick. Great soundtrack too!

I thought it nearly came off the rails a bit in the final 15 with all the stuff with Jon Hamms character, but it recovered with a nice unexpected way to end it.

But overall, highly enjoyable. The car chases were incredible. So much better than the CGI nonsense of the Furious movies.

Fish 10-02-2017 07:43 AM

I thought it was OK. The way they incorporated the soundtrack with the action was witty. But there was a lot of cliched goofiness too. Was expecting more after some of the reviews here.

This. It was fun, but was expecting more.

alanm 10-17-2017 11:56 AM

Saw it last night. It was a decent movie. Better than 98% of the shit that's released these days. The only problem I had was if you get sent up on a 25 yr sentence on a fed rap there's no parole after 5 yrs. :shake:

lcarus 10-17-2017 12:59 PM

I watched it a couple weeks ago. I didn't know shit about it beforehand. Very entertaining, clever action movie. I didn't find it to be a masterpiece of cinematic art that I will watch time and time again, but it was a fun watch.

jjjayb 10-17-2017 01:18 PM

Watched it without hearing about it before hand. Had no idea what to expect before I saw it. I thought it was fanfriggingtastic! The soundtrack was phenomenal. Action scenes were great. Not earth shattering, life changing great, but extremely entertaining great.

I gotta say the ending of this movie was really anti-climactic because of the way the ending went with the prison sentence. He killed someone and put a lot of lives at risk with his driving as well as evading authorities. Does anyone really think he gets a couple years in the clink?

Movie was great up until that point and they blew it. Could have been a nice segue into a sequel but they ****ed it up.

patteeu 10-18-2017 02:09 PM

I'm not one to judge others' tastes in music, so without disrespecting any of you who thought this soundtrack was fantastic, it didn't score* as well with me as I hoped it would after reading reviews.
