Hendrix/watchtower would be the classic example

eDave 09-17-2015 01:34 PM

My fave. The R&B track Tyrone done by My Morning Jacket. This particular performance features Erykah Badu, who's song it is. If you like guitar, hear this through. Love MMJ! You really should check out the entire Red Rocks performance. Two separate shows, completely different, excellent set lists.

This gets my vote too. Its the only cover Ive ever liked. I know most all bands do it, but I think covering someone else's work is lazy and wrong.

Dylan wrote the song, and Hendrix composed his cover like a year later. Dylan even liked Hendrix's version better and performs the song in his style now.

Pretty hard to top. Coming from Johnny, and putting his life's story as a backdrop fairly well blots out Reznor's original (which is pretty good).

Crimson and Clover. Original by Tommy James and the Shondells. Cover by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Oh, and a point blank statement -- ANY cover of ANY Bob Dylan song sung by ANYONE ELSE, with the single exception of The Times They Are A'Changing. I hate Bob Dylan's voice. Hate, Hate, HATE. Somehow, I think it works great for that one song, but otherwise, take that nasally crap and go away.

Best cover of a Dylan song -- All Along the Watchtower, by Hendrix.
