Detectives with the Independence, Missouri, Police Department are involved in a death investigation after a mushroom hunter discovered human remains in a neighborhood in western Independence.

Police said the human remains were found around noon on Tuesday near South Norwood Avenue and West Sheley Road.

According to the police, a mushroom hunter was looking for mushrooms in the area when they stumbled upon the partially decomposed body.
