Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Topeka man says new gun law allowed him to delay armed robber

3 punks robbed the Academy Sports store in Topeka, KS the other day. This guy delayed and may have possible helped thwart the getaway. All thanks to the new Kansas law that allows conceal carry without a license.

Massive Taurus Safety Settlement Could Include 100,000 Pistols
Posted by Bob Owens on July 28, 2015 at 7:49 am
Though it seems to largely be flying under the radar, a $39 million class action settlement by Taurus Firearms could impact up to 100,000 handguns with alleged safety design issues:

Brazil-based handgun maker Forjas Taurus SA has agreed to a $39 million settlement in a class action lawsuit alleging some of the company’s most popular semi-automatic handguns can discharge when dropped and have a defective safety that allows the gun to fire even when it’s engaged.

According to court documents filed May 15 in a U.S. District Court in Florida, the company has agreed to pay up to $30 million to owners of nine separate handgun models who opt to send their pistols back, with owners receiving anywhere from $150 to $200 for their pistols depending on how many choose that option.

The agreement also will extend the warranty for the nine handgun models, allowing gun owners to send the pistols back to have the handguns inspected by Taurus technicians and address the “safety defects” alleged in the suit. Documents show the settlement could include as many as 100,000 handguns.

The settlement also calls for a maximum $9 million in attorney’s fees.

A Taurus official confirmed the settlement agreement, arguing the company does not admit any wrongdoing.

The settlement includes the following pistols.

PT-111 Millennium
PT-132 Millennium
PT-138 Millennium
PT-140 Millennium
PT-145 Millennium
PT-745 Millennium
PT-609
PT-640
PT-24/7
The safety issues do not apparently affect the older metal frame pistols based upon Beretta designs, nor the G2 models.

I've been on an SKS buying binge the past few weeks. For some reason I really like them, and had to add to the collection.

I bought 1 Russian, 1 Romanian, and 2 Yugos. I ended up selling the Romanian over the weekend since I went a little overboard.

Once I get the cosmoline cleaned off the Yugos, I'll post some pics.

That should make a few 300 BLK.

I don't remember who recommended it but I have been using Wikiarms and, for the most part, it has been great. Lately, though, I've gotten emails around 4am or so saying that Freedom First Outfitters has 7.62 X 39 ammo for 0.13/round. By the time I get up in the morning and read that email (usually from 7-8:30am) and then click the link to go to their website to get the deal, the price is 0.91/round.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think this place is just trying to jack with the system in order to generate traffic to their site? Or do they simply sell out that fast? And if it's the latter, why is the difference between their sale price and their regular price so extreme?

kepp 09-04-2015 09:55 AM

I don't know that I've ever seen 7.62x39 for 0.91 per round. That's outrageously expensive. It sounds to me like they're gaming the system.

EDIT: right now they have Wolf for $0.24/round - http://www.freedomfirstoutfitters.co...122-gr-1000rds

Nice handguard, nickel bolt and carrier group, solid trigger guard, etc. $1400 is a little steep for any AR, IMO.

I don't own a factory AR. :D

I use a lot of Palmetto parts, especially their F/N cold hammered forged barrels and nickel BCGs.

Daniel Defense, Midwest, and Troy rails with Magpul buttstocks.

We do our own trigger springs and polishing.

The last AR-15 I built had a lowly 16" DPMS bull barrel. It shoots 2-3" groups at 500 yards.

Total cost: $460+Redfield Revenge Scope

Not my intentions at all!

It's a wonderful hobby if you can get into it, and it doesn't take much time. The longest part of the process is choosing parts.

A build will take about a couple hours your first time, and after that considerably less.

Man, you can spend lots of money on a fancy AR with all sorts of stuff that you will never notice make a real difference in the performance of the gun (like a light weight BCG). But, if I had money to burn I'd probably just get a LaRue 5.56 AR. They go for around $2k.

Depends on the application.

If it is for super accuracy at long range, I would go Les Bauer.

If it's for "Holy Shit, we're being invaded!", DD or Bravo Company would be a good selection.

They never quit making them and you could always get them but prices are sill nuts unless you can find some kind of a sale. I stocked up on everything a long time ago so I rarely check ammo prices these days.

Some places have lowered their ammo prices to near pre-panic levels. You just gotta know where to look.

But 22 is still hard to find for a decent price. Consider yourself lucky if you find any 22 for less than 5 or 6 cents per round.

I stockpile too but you want to restock any time prices dip. I was just checking. Sounds like not a good time to restock. Then again, ammo prices may never go back down. You just don't know. I should stock up some more just in case they ban lead bullets nationwide and prices leap.

Welcome to the 21 century.

http://bearingarms.com/russian-milit...d-you-can-too/

Russian military upgrades to AK-12… and you can, too.

http://bearingarms.com/wp-content/up...nology_002.jpg

The Russian military hasn’t had a significant assault rifle upgrade since the AK-74, but that is about to change with the adoption of the AK-12, which is entering service in 2014:

Various modifications of a new Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle as well as a host of other small arms will be put in service with the Russian armed forces in 2014, a senior government official said.

“In 2014, the Russian army will start receiving new assault rifles, handguns, machine guns and sniper rifles, including 5.45-mm and 7.62-mm variants of the Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle,” Deputy Chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission, Oleg Bochkarev, said in an interview with Echo Moskvy radio on Monday.

Development of the AK-12 began in mid-2011. The new weapon retains the overall layout and features of the AK-74, in service with the Russian army since the 1970s, but features several modifications and ergonomic changes.

The new assault rifle has being developed as a basic platform for nearly 20 different modifications of the weapon.

The rifle features three firing modes: single shot, three-shot burst and automatic fire. The muzzle of the AK-12 has been designed to shoot foreign-standard barrel-mounted grenades.

The word on the AK-12 is that it is a “old-new” design, taken the proven principles behind the older AK-patterns and incorporating features common to more modern western assault rifles.

It will be interesting to see if the Russian military AK-12 standardizes the use of the quad-stack 60-round “coffin” magazine, or if they’ll keep using the tens of millions of standard 30-round magazines as their first-line magazines.

http://bearingarms.com/wp-content/up...9600377637.jpg
AK12-Stock

Interestingly enough, The Firearms Blog is reporting that Izhmash may be exporting a semi-automatic civilian version of the AK-12 to the United States this year, so there is a chance you might get your hands on the civilian version of the latest Russian AK before the Russian military does.

How strong are her hands?

My wife has weak hands (joke there somewhere), and couldn't rack the slide on a Ruger LC9 very well.

If she can handle a 9mm, I would step up to the P239.

I would go at least up to a 9 if she can handle the recoil..I prefer the 45 but that's just me..40 is really good as well..have her go to a range and try shooting all calibers..after she picks a caliber she likes have her shoot different styles of pistols in that caliber..I know I love my Springfield XDs

The ex needs a cc piece for when she is visiting her clients in the hood. She had my gun in the glove box one night and it saved her ass.

Could you gun nerds give me a couple recommendations for a small purse carry gun? Open to .380,9, and .40. Needs to be small and dependable (some .380s have a rep for jamming all the time). Not looking for the cheapest deal around.

I will always and forever recommend the Bersa BP9CC. Tiny 9mm with a full grip, 21oz dry, and comes with two magazines.

FANTASTIC WEAPON!

Someone broke in to Bob Dole's truck and stole his .40. What is the consensus on the best .40 for CC?

That's my CCW and can't say enough good things about it as far as reliability, feel, accuracy and overall functionality. Get some good Winchester Ranger SXT or Corbon hollow point ammo and you can't do a whole lot better IMHO.

Can't go wrong with Springfield.

I have a .45 XDS and love it to death.

Is there any particular firearm well suited to San Francisco and/or east coast varmint?

Asking for a friend.

It's the only way to be sure.

That is where Bob Dole was leaning.

Thanks.

My wife has weak hands (joke there somewhere), and couldn't rack the slide on a Ruger LC9 very well.

We ended up getting her a Sig P238. The slide on it works like butter, and it's a really nice gun.

If she can handle a 9mm, I would step up to the P239.

She can handle up to a .40.

She's not really allowed to carry while working so it has to be on the smaller side.

I have a carry in each those so I can choose to match my gun and holster depending on my boot color

I tried to make that sound as gay as possible

LMAO

She can shoot anything really. I have a .45 Ruger (think it is the LCP, it's a small .45), a .40 S&W Sigma series, and a Ruger 9mm (the full size one). She's much more accurate with the larger calibers than the smaller ones.
