***Sign-ups for the 2020 CP Mock Draft***
 

It's that time of year again. May as well get the ball rolling now. We'll start the draft on Monday, March 16th at noon central

Note: This thread is not for picking teams. We'll figure that out later. All we're doing now is the roll call. If you intend to participate this year, you must post in this thread to indicate you'd like to come back. Otherwise, your spot will be given to somebody on the waiting list.

Due to work constraints and scheduling, The Franchise will be unable to participate this year. We'll probably have a couple others who can't come back, so if you're interested in drafting, post in this thread to sign up and you'll be put on the wait list. Previous owners/participants have priority in getting slots filled.

If you have questions about how this thing works, first check out the rules in the OP of the stickied 2019 Mock Draft thread. If you still have questions, post them here. A rough explanation is that each poster is the GM of 2 teams, and you draft for each team like you would in the actual NFL draft. We include comp picks, and there are no trades allowed. It may seem like a lot of picks to account for, but you'd be surprised how smoothly this can roll along. We've always finished this thing with several days (sometimes weeks) to spare.

I know I said we're not picking teams at this time, but sometimes it's a cluster**** to figure out who picks for the Chiefs. We always try to pick somebody new to draft for them each year. We'd probably have you start the thread so that you have the power to make edits. Or, we can ask DaFace to fix his shit and give you draft forum mod powers.

I picked for the Chiefs the year we didn't have a first round pick....

2nd year in a row the first week of this is going to be when I am on vacation. I don't think I was too slow selecting last year, count me in but if you get a big wait list I will maybe re-consider.

We'll be fine. If you get a team without a 1st round pick, that would probably be for the best, and you could just send a short list of dudes for your 2nd team. If they were all taken by that point, if you're fine with trusting one of us to make the pick at that point, that'd work out fine.

Can we set up a date and time when we pick teams. Its always some sort of free for all and end up with teams I don't give a shit about or don't follow.

I think I asked this last year, but any way we could feasibly work trades into the mock draft with the condition that they have to be competed before it starts (to keep it from slowing things down).

I’m just thinking of logical trades that could very well happen before the draft.

Sunday, March 1st at 8pm central, you can start pushing over pregnant women and elderly people to pick your teams. Do the usual. Pick one in the top 16 and one in the bottom 16.

Tell you what, pugs. I just kind of Matt Moore this thing along. Most of us do. But if you want to Patrick Mahomes the CP Mock, I think most people would be fine with that.

What would you say to running this thing? You would start the official draft thread so that you can make edits. Pest, Franchise, and I are all draft forum mods, so we could also keep Matt Mooreing and updating OPs and the draft order.

You could then be in charge of the pick trades and all of that good stuff.

Provided the other owners are fine with this, of course. Maybe those of you who once did the alt mock can offer up your thoughts on how well this went? If there were problems, could they be easily fixable?

I've long been a proponent of a draft ran with trades. I think it offers some sort of realism. The other edge of that sword is that you need to lock in the picks as they stand at the beginning. You can't award picks traded in reality later because it upsets whatever you do here.

I'd also monitor the trades follow the trade value chart and almost all trades in the 1st round add 100 points for reality.

No trading future years picks would be my addition.

And probably leave players out of the trades, too. Because then salary cap shit has to be taken into account, and then we're encroaching on the territory of mock offseasons, not mock drafts.

So... go reach out to people? We might even have to grab normies from the Lounge if it gets bad.

We had our 16 members this morning with TambaBerry back in, and if you're out, we're basically left with asking people from the cesspool you're referencing. I've just looked at the previous years of CP Mocks, and I've made contact with just about everybody who isn't currently AWOL. There are guys like Mother****erJones I haven't asked, but they haven't even signed in to CP since the Super Bowl win. I'm not going to bother.

The way we've always done it is that we give it to whoever hasn't done it yet that's been doing the mock the longest. I'm fairly confident that's not me. I don't think it's something that should go to the reeruns that predominantly troll the lounge on the daily to decide.

I'll stay in because it's getting late in the process and we were already short on owners. Give it to the guy that deserves it, whoever that is.

Can we start this draft on the week of the 23rd? NFL FA starts on the 18th and will surely make a lot of us look like reeruns.

I’ve got the Raiders and it’s 50/50 they get a new QB that week.

That's a fair point. I know we typically start it the week of the 16th but we have always completed it before the draft.

Could that FA date be impacted by the ongoing CBA negotiations?

It would be a cool exception this year to start it after free agency considering how many big name quarterbacks will be on the market. the whole league could look different in just a few days.
