Some chatter today about Mahomes drifting too far from the pocket
Thoughts?

I know it’s doesn’t absolve some poor blocking by the Chiefs OL but Mahomes has to stop dropping past 9/9.5 yards. Probably some truth to it.
|
Mahomes has been doing this since forever. Manning mentioned it in his first DETAILS segment back in 2018, IIRC. Maybe at the beginning of 2019. Whatever. And Pat has said that he needs to work on it as well. So it's not new.
|
There's some truth to it. Not sure why but he's not really sliding up in the pocket. Maybe he just doesn't trust his interior OL.
|
I can buy this. Thats a little to far by 2 yards.

He seemed to be feeling/seeing phantom pressure, especially in the first half. There had to be at least three plays where he broke out of the pocket when there was no reason to (from a pressure standpoint, anyway).
|
Might have something to do with he is somewhere around 5th in the league with the least amount of time to throw the ball so far in the NFL. I saw the tweet earlier but cant find it now.
|
He's made some crazy plays doing that kind of stuff though, which is why it's a hard habit to break. He's got a few habits that would be a problem for other QBs but he's so talented it just doesn't matter.
When he gets into his 30s and he's not as mobile he's probably going to have to clean some of that stuff up, but that's something to worry about in 8 or 9 years. He's a smart guy. |
Don't **** with the way Mahomes plays.!
|
Please don't change Patrick Machines II what works for him won us a God damn Super Bowl.

Do we have time to run WASP?
He drifted way back because he had too give himself time. This is one dumb thread. |

This is dumb. Andy Reid and Bienemy have said they have plays designed where Mahomes drifts but they won’t tell you or go into detail for obvious reasons when questioned about it. Schwartz and Licky don’t know which plays those are so they’re guessing. And Licky doesn’t watch ****ing football anymore. He’s even said so on 810. He watches highlights of other teams and SOME of the Chiefs games but yet he’s a ****ing paid guest.
