OST: Wallets, most of us carry one. What kind do you use?

I've carried a front pocket wallet for a while. One with a magnetic money clip that has demagnetized hotel keys, drivers license, and a gift card.

Looking for ideas for my next holder of cards/money as my card destroyer has finally been washed enough times that it gave up the pretense of having any tension to hold my stuff.

What's in your pocket?

KCrockaholic 05-07-2018 10:34 PM

I’ve had a leather Chiefs wallet for about 10 years now. I always keep it in my right front pocket. I’ve never trusted back pockets.

ThaVirus 05-07-2018 10:38 PM

I've got a pretty sexy bifold Perry Ellis wallet. Hate trifolds and anything with a zipper with a passion.

I also have a pretty standard money clip that I'll use to switch it up from time to time.

Carry a front pocket wallet from
Cabela’s for years.

Using cash isn’t convienient but I rarely do it.

$20 is a good price.

Be it known that I put wallets through hell. Water and dirt wreck them so I’m not going to be buying anything fancy.

Whatever you do make sure it’s a front pocket wallet. I don’t foresee a situation that I’d carry a back pocket wallet again.

Slim bi-fold in front pocket for cash & flat bottle opener. Maybe a few punch cards.

Tri-fold in hip pocket for ID, credentials, cc, kids pictures etc.

(Yes I am old & use cash for damn near everything.)

Mens leather zipper around wallet with change pocket. I'm on my fifth one, first one I bought at Walmart about 15 years ago for $12. The zipper quit working after about 3 years, couldn't find them anymore at Walmart, so I bought one online at a wallet store for $30. That lasted about 3 years, then I shopped eBay and found them for $10, so I bought 3 of them, that was in 2011. I'm on my third one now, so this reminded me I need backup. I just found them on eBay for $7.97 with shipping, so I bought 2. I think they're great, I don't like change in my pocket, with this it's there in case I need it, I like getting dollars back instead of more change, so I always want to have change ready. Also with the zipper, I never worry about anything falling out.

Carhartt makes a good Jean, bought them for years. But that is the weakest part of the whole Jean, right where the hip pocket corners are. Always developed a hole there before the rest of the Jean would give out, so I quit buying them.

I NEVER keep money with the rest of my credit cards, photos, grocery rewards cards, business cards both mine and ones people give me, license, receipt slips for dry cleaners or HID entry card.

I keep my cash folded in half in my front pocket and my wallet is really a leather bi-fold expandable card holder with clear window for license from Alpine Swiss. It has an outside pouch, two inside pouches, a slot for your DL and space behind for dry cleaning stubs or the like. No issues for RFID or credit cards demagnetizing.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Alpine-Sw...llet/135146547

Great wallet. Had a black one before I bought in Toronto in 2006. This one I bought about a year ago. Love it. I keep it in my left rear pocket.

Graystoke 05-08-2018 01:12 PM

Don't carry them.
I leave the house with my debit card and Driver License. If I have cash, which is rare, it goes in my front pocket.
The bad, wears out my magnetic strip and I am always getting new Debit Cards.

Cakn Patna is a loose translation of a phrase that was repeated over and over on a 8,500 year old Sumerian tablet from the earliest know points of the Ubaid Period that was unearthed in an undisclosed area (purported to be around the southern Euphrates river) by US Army Special Forces units in 1991 during the first Gulf War. Language experts were assembled from leading universities across the globe, and it was determined that this phrase was either a command code that would summon the return of the original extraterrestrial alien race that first "planted" the first modern humans on Earth or a taunt of "Alalngamish is a goat ****er who stole my cultivation tool." /Saccopoo 2009

Yep, this is what I’ve been using as well. I can put a lot in it if I need to, or cut down and really have it be comfortable to wear in my pocket. During the summer I keep it in a cargo pocket in my shorts and during the winter I like to keep it in my jacket pocket. It’s better for my back to not sit on a wallet all day and my pants don’t wear out as quickly.

FlaChief58 05-08-2018 04:33 PM

Leather wallet that zips shut to keep everything in and dirt, sawdust, etc out. I got tired of ruining the magnetic strips on my cards. I highly recommend them to anyone in construction.

Big Skinny Slimline.

Got tired of leather being so thick and deteriorating so quickly. The new wallet with everything in it from the old leather wallet is thinner than the old one empty. I carry it in the front pocket. I haven't carried a wallet in my back pocket since I first started carrying a wallet in high school.

One downside to the wallet is that after a while the pockets will become lose and cards can slip out. It's not really an issue with the front horizontal pockets, but if you have anything in the vertical pockets behind them you can open your wallet and find your cards half way out. I've just switched from putting my wallet in my pocket spine first to open end first and its not an issue.

srvy 05-08-2018 05:35 PM

I made a shark skin leather wallet in HS crafts class in 1973. It only had a bill separator and drivers license window but used it in back pocket for about 5 or more years till I got my first credit cards. Yeah thats when they clamped in a that thingy and made an imprint. It still looks like the day the kit came from Tandy Leather and wears like iron. I dont know if they still can sell shark leather anymore but it makes a fine wallet.

I work at a job that has me moving, squatting, climbing, leaning and all other funny movements. Do you find that it jabs at you while you move around? I don't wear "skinny jeans" so it may not be an issue regardless.

I used to carry a cell phone wallet but I found it made the phone more difficult to hold/use. I've seen ones, though, that have a little trap door on the back of the case that you can use to carry your things that I'm looking more into.

Does that thing rip your pants ever? Same questions, really, as I asked with the ridge. How does it feel in your pocket when you are moving about. I move around a lot at work and feel like that would be somewhat uncomfortable.

Got this one as a gift from the ex a couple years ago. I never would have spent 90 on a wallet but I love this thing.
