In the Flat-Earth model of the cosmos, the North Pole is the immovable center of the world and the entire universe. Polaris, the North Star, sits straight over the North Pole at the highest point in the heavens, and like a slowly rotating planetarium dome all the celestial bodies revolve around Polaris and over the Earth once per day. The Sun circles over and around the circumference of Earth every 24 hours, steadily traveling each day from the equator during the March vernal equinox, up to the Tropic of Cancer at the June summer solstice, back down to the equator for the September autumnal equinox, and all the way down to the Tropic of Capricorn on the December winter solstice.

In the Flat-Earth model, the South Pole does not exist at all and Antarctica is instead a gigantic ice-wall extending the circumference of Earth holding in the oceans like a giant bowl, or a “world cup.” As strange as this concept may sound at first, it is a fact that if you set a bearing due South from anywhere on Earth, inevitably at or before 78 degrees Southern latitude, you will find yourself face-to-face with an enormous ice-wall towering 100-200 feet in the air extending to the East and West the entire circumference of the world!

I hope that someday we develop the technology and fortitude to get over that 100 foot wall. I'm curious what's on the bottom half of the earth.

Both the Coliseum and the aqueducts were used for grain storage. That's a fact.

If I want to discuss science, I'll do it with my wife who is a science teacher. I'm not going to have a conversation with someone who doesn't know what the Rosetta Stone is, thinks that the pyramids may have been used for grain storage, and cites flat earth blogs as a source.

:facepalm:JFC.... can you get anything correct here? That's not an image of the actual mapped surface of the earth. A geoid is a representation of the surface of the earth that it would assume if the sea covered the earth, also known as surface of equal gravitational potential. It's a method to calculate surface elevations. It is not a representation of the shape of the Earth's crust.

DaveNull 11-06-2015 04:38 PM

Oh...there's more when you dig into the BBC article explaining it..

Quote:

It is the shape the oceans would adopt if there were no winds, no currents and no tides.

Aries Walker 11-06-2015 04:38 PM

The Earth is an oblate spheroid - mostly spherical, but flat at the top and round at the Equator. It's also smoother than a billiard ball would be if they were both the same size.

I learned both of those by the eighth grade. It's fairly basic.

When I want to know what a tulip would look like in a certain vase maybe I would call you.

I know you have no idea what that is but you will google and try to act as though you do.

And yes it is an gravity map of the earth that is used every day to to accurately position points on the surface of the earth. The earth and gravitational effects on its surface makes it look like a Potato. The Geoid is a imaginary line per say drawn around this surface to negate the peeks and valleys of that surface and to use complex mathematical calculations so we can use satellites (GPS) to map and navigate the surface. This is in layman's terms as I am not trained in Geodesy just a land surveyor who applies this in real life.

Gauss described the Geoid as the true mathematical figure of the earth.

In Geodesy it is known as the true physical figure of the earth.

Dave Lane your an astronomer correct?

Have you ever observed Polaris to actually calculate an azimuth on the ground? Sun Shot? Just curious I know this is a forgotten art now as GPS has pretty much eliminated the need. I would think calculating an astronomic azimuth would be astronomy 101.

I do that before every shot I take that involves tracking which is most of them. Including annual precession calculations for the year.

It doesn't help with my hieroglyphs much, to be honest. So I'm not sure how that is germane to the conversation.

WTF:shrug:

I really don't like Carson. I am glad he's finally getting called out for stupid shit he says.

But jfc... If the media out even ten percent of their time on benghazi and whitewater as they did on learning if Carson got a scholarship or if mitt Romney paid his taxes.... The ridiculous one sidedness of the media has to stop.

I don't know how you can say it's one sided. There are just as many conservative news outlets as liberal. Heck, Fox is #1.

Just a couple weeks ago Benghazi was on for about 12 straight hours.
You can't be serious with your ridiculous assertion.

Thank you. It's about time someone recognized the geniousness of my comments.

I take back all the bad things I have posted about you and yours on the various websites with which I am involved.

Yeah that's the weird thing, there's like these ongoing multi-year investigations into Carson and his statements. 13 investigations over 4 years just to see if there really was grain in the pryamids, 6 years $74 million on investigations and threatened impeachment over his Westpoint lie. All that while Hillary get a couple day news cycle and its on to the next thing.

I sure wish the GOP would do some checking.
