Planning a Chiefs at Raiders trip
I’m hopeful that the NFL will avoid scheduling this game the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas. If they avoid those two weeks I’m going to pull the trigger on a long weekend in Vegas with the wife. I know many of you have been to the new stadium. How about some helpful tips and tricks for a visit. When to buy tickets? Where to stay? What time to arrive at the stadium? Chiefs friendly establishments? Those are questions I’d love to garner some feedback on.
|
My advice: Try to talk your wife into a threesome. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

It's real expensive. Save money by staying at Circus Circus.
I'm kidding don't stay any of these places no matter how cheap they are. https://www.techopedia.com/gambling/...t-hotels-vegas |
Just be careful the game is not in a position to be flexed.
|
Have fun and call around to find a hotel near the stadium.
|
I wanted to go last year but the timing sucked around Thanksgiving. I'm also interested in going this year.
When does the schedule come out? |
There’s a new Marriott next to the stadium
|
Vegas is a fantastic town. The question is so broad.
You have shows, golf, Hoover Dam, great restaurants, cheap buffets, Chinatown, museums, gambling, old school area, new ritzy stuff, cigar shops, shopping, sports books, comedy shows, Cirque de Soleil, glitzy hotels, cheap hotels, top golf, indoor skydiving, music shows like U2 I'll be there from this Sunday until Thursday for a trade show. Staying at Trump International. The list is long......focus on things you never get a chance to do. |
Beware the "resort fees" too. Those have ballooned kind of out of control since formula 1

I attended the game last season and had a great time
Allegiant is a fantastic stadium. I got there when gates opened which is like 2 hours before kickoff which gave me time to walk around the stadium and watch some warmups Rideshare from the Strip is super easy. Drop-off point is just a short walk through some colorful "tailgating" (why pay for a Cypress Hill concert when you can just hit the Allegiant parking lot on game day?) It is walkable from the strip, especially towards the Mandalay Bay side. I stayed at the Cosmo further up and walked back which took about an hour so doable but I'd probably just get an Uber next time I think I monitored tickets for a few weeks before springing for what I felt was the softest kick in the nuts, so no real advice there There were KC fans everywhere along with a mix of every other fan base, which was kind of wild, so every place felt like a Chiefs friendly establishment Sat next to big dude from Compton at the game who was all bark, no bite. My wife saw him digging in his teeth after a hotdog and offered him a flossing pick and we were pretty much best friends the rest of the game Seriously thinking about doing it again this season |
Horseshoe is a cheap option for sleeping and you can walk right into Paris for a superior casino experience and food

I went to Horseshoe the weekend after the SB and it was absolutely PACKED with Chiefs jerseys. |

RIP, Westward Ho your breakfast sandwiches were huge and four dollars, your slots paid like they were grateful you showed up, and your Elvis impersonator was so coked up he forgot the words to Elvis songs and for me in my 20s, it was heaven |

Stadium opens 2 hours before the game and 3 hours for premium tickets. Cheap cost I would recommend staying at the Luxor. You want to splurge the Venetian is very classy. Tickets prices can sway. Lucky for you the Chiefs are winners which is a draw for NFL fans. Unluckily for your pocket book this will cost you more. I sell my tickets on NFL ticket exchange/ticket master. |
Is that Chiefs fan DJ still there? Might hit her up if she still is.
|
Hell yeah!
|
Tickets are pricey. I went last year and stayed downtown to save some bucks. Ubered to the Mandelay for breakfast then walked across the bridge for the game. After the game is chaos. We walked for an hour and had dinner before you could Uber out of the area. The traffic was still affected by that f1 race though. Hopefully it’s better this year.

A lot of the other stuff has been covered here but I'll echo that it's a great stadium. I flew in and out same day for the game last November and that was really easy. And then was back for the Super Bowl which was a completely different experience as they basically took over the entire parking lots around the stadium for official tailgates, security, etc.
But yeah, really easy to get to from the strip via the monorail to the Mandalay Bay and then walking from there. I don't care for Vegas much at all, but it's a pretty unique Chiefs experience and the polar opposite of the Oakland Coliseum. |
After confirming 100% refund cancellation policy of the hotel of your choice, book every weekend of the football season right now before they announce games. When the schedule comes out, cancel all but the weekend you want to go. It worked for a buddy of mine last year and hes certain he saved a boat load of money.
Also do the mob museum tour |
My guess is the schedule comes out next Thursday btw. It's typically been the Thursday in the second week of May or a couple weeks after the draft.
|
Do yourself a favor and don't stay at the Gold Coast. It's.......just awful there.
|
A fun casino I like is Ellis Island. Own brewery, excellent pizza, small and comfortable. Near top golf and Wyndham time share resort.
I like the Mirage, Bellagio, Caesars, Mandalay Bay. So much to do and see. |
Might keep an eye on Chiefs Lot J Tailgating Crew. They plan things for all away games, including overseas.

Still really bad experiences. |
I did that trip two years ago--- the wife was sick, but great game (we got the first ring around the rosie play)...
I second luxor (nice enough, pretty close to the stadium) as a decent place to stay if you want close to the stadium. the stadium is insane. I love arrowhead--- but if we had our version of reliant, I'd be ok with it. dome and all. |
We're going to Vegas in July. If I hit it big, I'll join you guys.

I've never stayed there but I wasn't a fan of their interior decor. |
This is an easy question. I went to the Chiefs at Raiders a year ago. It's not like the old Oakland days. You can safely assume that 60% of the crowd will be Chiefs fans. It's a wine and cheese crowd now, so you need not fear your safety. It's right off the strip, so you can stay at any hotel you prefer along the strip and just walk to the game. You can easily buy tickets on Tickpick/etc. a day before the game. Just be prepared that Vegas is now like Tokyo - everything expensive including game tickets. I think we paid $400/each for lower corner and that was the last game of that season. So be prepared to pay but enjoy. It's a cool stadium.

I'd stay at Luxor 10/10 times before I stayed at Excalibur.
|

Luxor is ok for the price. Do not get a room in the Pyramid. Ask for a tower room. You will spend half your time waiting on the elevator if you get a Pyramid room. Mandalay is much nicer, but costs more. Delano is awesome. I have only stayed at the Excalibur once and swore never again. My room smelled like there was a dead hooker under the bed. Changed rooms and the new one wasn't much better. This was several years ago so maybe they have upgraded them by now, but Excalibur has a reputation of being kinda trashy. There is a Four Seasons at Mandalay also but I have never stayed there. Mandalay, Delano, Luxor and Excalibur are all super convenient if you are going to the game. It's just a short walk across the bridge to the stadium. There will be lots of Chiefs fans everywhere regardless of which one you choose. |
Quote:
Excalibur is tacky. Stayed there before. Maybe also for kids with the castle decor. Not a great reputation these last few decades. Never been inside Delano but always figured it was nicer than its neighbors. I prefer the Bellagio/Cosmo/Caesars vibe. Perfect location on the strip. Pricy, but worth it. |
Quote:
It's been a long time since Luxor was decent. Their rooms constantly end up on "dirties rooms in Vegas" lists now. It's also on the ghetto side of the strip, hypodermic needles in the parking lots type shit |

Stayed at the Luxor for the first time for the Thursday night Chargers @ Raiders game. The room was $100 bucks a night and the place is decent. I would stay there again.

I’ve done the casino thing. I do like to gamble, but it’s not something I want to do 24/7. I think we will end up in a luxury rental. Hopefully close enough to the strip to make it an easy drive or a quick Uber ride, but lodging is the wife’s department. Looks like this will be a Friday through Monday trip if the NFL doesn’t screw me with the scheduling.

Good times. |
I drove into Vegas yesterday afternoon and the last 140-160 miles was horrific fighting 40-50 mph winds driving over 80mph.
The town is quiet and I'm staying at the Trump International. Really great large room and well thought out. Very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Here until Thursday or Friday for a trade show. That Ferrari driving experience sounds awesome. That would be a great team building exercise. I'll check it out, thanks. Trade show has long hours so not sure how peppy anyone will be....LMAO |
Is the schedule out yet?
|
I think they have created an event around the schedule release. It might be this week or weekend on NBC I think.
|
Katie, tell your hubby to kick some ass in Wickenburg and get those road improvements done.
Took about 40 minutes to get around all the construction and circles as 100 cars got stuck behind a tractor trailer doing 20 mph. ROFL |
I Have been there the past 2 years. its awesome! Tons of Chiefs fans. I stay at the Horseshoe or Paris. Pretty inexpensive compared to others. I like to play poker and the horseshoe has a nice poker room. I purchased tickets about a month before. I checked on game day and the prices dropped that morning. I just like to have my tickets before I go.

Got our tickets and our flight reserved. Wifey scored front row, visitor sideline. Looks like there’s no such thing as short term rentals in Vegas, which makes sense from the casino perspective. Trying to figure the lodging piece out now but leaning toward a suite at Planet Hollywood. Looking forward to watching Patrick crush the Raiders in his Vegas crib.

Plus they look down on the Bellagio fountains so you can see the show from your room |

[QUOTE=KCUnited;17521520]If gambling isn't a priority I'm a fan of the terrace suites at the Cosmo. There's not many terraces in Vegas for obvious reasons
Great hotel but wouldn't Cosmo be super expensive? Especially during Chiefs week. |
