Year Two of the Matt Quatraro tenure. Time to take a step up this year. Active in free agency and trades this offseason. A new look pitching rotation and bullpen. Will the young players take the leap up offensively? Bobby Witt extension? New stadium? Will Vinny recover from injury? Salvy taking aim at the Royals record book? Will Cole Ragans turn into the best Royals starting pitcher since Greinke 1.0?

The revamp of the front office continues. Two good pickups with Brian Bridges and now Johnny DiPuglia.

DiPuglia signed Hanley Ramirez and was in charge of the Nats international scouting when they added Soto. Seems like he’s a great add.

KCUnited 01-02-2024 07:11 PM

He signed Ramirez as a 16 year old for 20k so he can work within our budget

J/k this seems like a positive move

The Royals/Chiefs proposal seems about as fair as one of these can get for John Q Public.

Extend an existing sales tax. Teams take on fees the county has been covering. They stay in the tax district. $1 billion ballpark district financed by team.

And shit, if the Chiefs upgrade things at the current site, it could revitalize that area a bit.

Bowser 01-05-2024 05:49 PM

How in tf is Frank White STILL in some kind of position to dictate what is or isn't happening in Jackson County? How is he not facing charges over the property tax situations? Good lord.

(I'm not derailing the thread, I just had to get that off my chest)

cabletech94 01-05-2024 05:49 PM

^^^with that being said, I was getting ready to ask “ but how does frank white feel about this”.

A 50 year tax is incredibly stupid especially when you consider that neither stadium will be there 5 decades from now. That area will never be spruced up

Honestly, if Amazon co-opts Bally like the rumors are saying, it's probably the best thing for the Royals.

I was wondering when the Chiefs would speak up, and would virtually be forced to move to WyCo. They're footing a rather large price for a new stadium if the existing tax doesn't get renewed and they want to stay put. That's where Frank White is screwing the pooch. A new tax will never get approved. Continuing the existing tax is the only path forward for Jackson county.

This division is winnable. It really could be like the Twins in ‘87. 82-85 wins likely wins this division, and after that, all bets are off.

This is clearly what the Royals are banking on.

But…. Free agency rarely works. Plus, we’re the Royals. When the hell does anything work out for us?

Offensively, I think this team could be very sneaky good. BWJ is an all-star potential MVP player. Maikel Garcia could be underrated. A healthy Vinnie could go full-on Sweeney aka ‘99, or turn into Thome, either way, I’m happy. Can Salvy trim some weight and hit 30 homers? I hope so, and I think he can. After those four guys, it’s Waters, Isbel, Melendez, Velazquez, Massey and the big Henfroe acquisition. There’s a lot to like there, and I don’t think there’s a slot for anyone until they slot themselves in with performance.

Ragans was maybe the best pitcher in baseball for two+ plus months last year. Can he perform at even close to that level for a full season? He looks like the real deal, barring injury, he is another potential all-star. But then we have Wacha, Lugo, Singer, Lynch, Lyles…. Can’t have enough pitching. I want the Royals to bring Greinke back. He can get his 3000th K in a Royals uniform, and if he is used correctly, he could be our pocket ace.

Our bullpen still stinks. Can we sign Chapman again? Moves have been made, but again, there’s never enough pitching.

If we can get out of April and May not being under 10 games, this team could be interesting to watch. But I think they really need more help in pitching.

I tried to write a similar thing, but it was deleted because the site timed me out.

There’s a strong contingent of powerful people who live in Eastern Jackson county or work from there who have Ds in front of their voter registration records.

Local 42 also still votes like traditional union membership, and its membership is heavily D.

You're reading way too much into it, especially with a high risk group of teenage prospects.

There's a thought process in baseball scouting that shortstops are the best athletes and are on the top of the defensive spectrum. It's easy to move a shortstop to another position with ease. It's not often you see an organization sign three amateur first basemen for instance because their value would be entirely in their bat.

Matt Chapman to the Royals?

Can we please sign Zack Greinke? Goddammit, I need to see this man get 3000 K’s in a Royals uniform!

tk13 01-19-2024 04:28 PM

I find it hard to believe they'd go for someone like Chapman but the infield defense would be loaded. Seems like he'd be a bat pretty similar to Renfroe though. Urshela seems more like a Royals move.

duncan_idaho 01-19-2024 04:45 PM

Chapman would certainly be a move that stresses KC isn’t operating like the old Royals days.

First, he’s going to cost a bunch.

Second, his offensive profile is low average, high OBP.

That’s very much not a Royals move.

I’d love it, though. An IF defense with Chapman, Witt, and Massey would be elite-elite. And they could trade Garcia at that point and get a decent return.

Frank White is such a slimy mother****er. I'm starting to think he's slimier than Sherman. Dude has no reason to veto this. Let the God damn voters vote for what they want. Slimy shit.

ChiefsCountry 01-19-2024 08:47 PM

Royals get Chapman, they probably become the favorites in the AL Central

Why? Why should we vote on financing a stadium when we don't even know the location? This should give voters great pause that they want to push this through without all the details.

Interesting

I mean, that building is ugly. Knock it down

Sure he does. He was fired by the Royals for being boring

They only have like 7 years to figure this out. What a good reason to blow millions on a election to just have voters turn it down because of the lack of information.

Yup and the 2 choices are basically miles of empty parking lots vs a thriving area with local businesses but not we should give the billionaires the money first and let them dictate where they want to build the stadium. This is all Frank White's fault! Not the inept owner who's shared a half ass plan throughout or the people who continuously supported Frank White

This is the most KC thing ever. A bunch of dimwits who support a half ass plan in order to not feel like the rubes they really are

Titty Meat 01-20-2024 07:53 PM

Not sure why you're down voting me CC you know it's true.

dlphg9 01-22-2024 03:38 PM

Veto gets an over ride. Eat shit Frank.

Nothing personal at all but I've heard this almost year since 2015.;)

Chiefshrink 01-22-2024 08:58 PM

How do you go from over 100 losses 106 to be exact from the previous season to competing for the division the next year? Crappy division I guess??
