They've never really ever been able to get a D&D movie /show quite right, but I'm curious about this one. Decent looking cast, and I've been in lustlove with Michelle Rodriguez for a couple of decades now.

staylor26 07-23-2022 03:06 PM

Looks like it could actually be pretty good/fun.

mnchiefsguy 07-23-2022 05:30 PM

While this looks far from a fantasy masterpiece...it looks like it could be a lotta fun.

Indian Chief 07-25-2022 11:04 AM

Cautiously optimistic. Either it's going to be pretty good, or they made a great trailer that has the best parts of the movie.

ToxSocks 07-25-2022 12:46 PM

Pfff. Dungeons and Dragons is for nerds. Imma go play some Warcraft.

Why Not? 07-25-2022 02:56 PM

Looks fun. I'm in!

DrunkBassGuitar 07-26-2022 02:11 PM

I made my friends go see the D&D movie that came out in like 2002 maybe.

They were pissed that I made them go see it lol

Wasn't one of the Wayans brothers in that? That flick was an absolute turd, haha.

Bowser 07-26-2022 05:55 PM

I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say the best D&D material put out there to date is the 80's cartoon series.

Sure-Oz 07-26-2022 06:45 PM

Looks entertaining

Just Passin' By 07-27-2022 05:33 PM

The problem with trying to make a D&D movie is LOTR. LOTR is the fully developed world from which basically any D&D movie would spring, but LOTR is an established world with patient fans. They know that LOTR isn't coming together in 90 minutes, so there's built in forgiveness.

But a D&D movie needs to create a world, have its quest and resolution, and show a good time with magic and monsters, do it well enough to stand on its own and pull in an audience, and do that in 90-120 minutes. After all, very few people are going to want to watch a 90 minute movie that's just a dungeon, or just a D&D city, scenario.

BigRichard 07-28-2022 07:12 AM

It looks like it will be fun... I could care less if it actually follows D&D stuff.

yeah it was real bad. The Wayans brother played it like it was a comedy though.

I kept leaning over to my friend and telling him how good the movie was about 15 minutes in lol

yeah that's basically right.

I saw someone on twitter suggest they should like lean into the fact that's it a game and wink at the audience. like have an actor play one character, then die and then the next scene have the same actor play a different character. or have a character go missing for a scene because he's off "doing an adventure somewhere else" and then show up in the next scene.

In

Tribal Warfare 07-28-2022 02:09 PM

Stranger Things and the Duffer Brothers initiated D&D interest.

Sure.

Or, assuming they could get the financial backing, they could come forward with a multi-film set up already in hand. As you've likely seen here, the target audience might well accept a choppier first installment knowing that threads could be tied together in the second/third/whatever movie. But that would run the risk of huge losses if the movies didn't succeed.

sully1983 07-29-2022 08:20 AM

I know nothing about D & D other than from that ****ing hilarious episode of South Park ROFL and most recently from Stranger Things but damn this actually looks like it could be a lot of fun.

The director(s) are the guys that directed Game Night which I really enjoyed. And apparently these guys are huge D&D players themselves. And I keep forgetting one of the directors (John Francis Daley) was the nerdy kid on Freaks & Geeks
https://www.media4.hw-static.com/med...ews-012616.jpg

Quote:

The movie’s directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley — the duo behind sleeper hit Game Night — talked about their personal history with the game. “I have been an avid player since I was 14 years old when I acted on the show Freaks & Geeks,” said Daley, to generous applause. “Anyone who plays D&D knows it’s not just a game. It is the feeling you get when you play the game.”

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...ne-1235184234/

I'm also thankful that they aren't going down the "super duper serious" route that the director of that laughably cringe Warcraft movie did (which was critically panned & a huge box office flop)

Last but not least, I dig the cast. Chris Pine is probably one of my favorite actors from his generation. He can mix it up really well with his charm, charisma & comedic timing.

Fansy the Famous Bard 08-01-2022 08:35 AM

Hell. Yes.

Fishpicker 08-11-2022 08:08 AM

black dragon, bronze dragon, displacer beast, gelatinous cube, mimic, owl bear, and red dragon make up a pretty good roster of monsters for a movie trailer. they're all pretty representative of D&D.

I'd like to see kobolds, beholder, ogre magi, fire giant, and driders.

You mentioned practically every dragon subspecies EXCEPT the one in your avi. ROFL

Oh, shit. That's what that was. It caught my eye and it was bothering me because I couldn't place it.

Fishpicker 03-15-2023 04:03 PM

I saw these at wal-mart this morning. D&D has 3 new toy lines

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CA6rkyOxCgc" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

this a preview for the cartoons toy line and the movie toy line

last year, there was a D&D toy line released that was based on the 80s LJN D&D toy line

Gonna be alot of ****ing virgins at the screening

Chief Pagan 03-16-2023 11:51 PM

For any of you nerds that actually played D&D, I found the low budget movie Gamers, Dorkness Rising more amusing than I probably should have.

Would not really recommend to anyone who didn't actually play the game.

Yeah, I saw it last week. It was ok, a pretty cool nostalgia bomb for an old D&D nerd like me. Seeing the animated gang from the cartoon in the 80s brought to life was pretty cool, but the rest of it was ok. Not great, but not terrible, either.

I wouldn't say you absolutely need to see it in the theaters if you want to check it out if you're on the fence about it.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks.

The red dragon stole the show. it was the funniest scene in the entire movie too. the dialogue was mildly funny. the fight scenes were decent. the action/escape/chase scenes were the highlight of the D&D movie. 7/10

Pretty much where everyone else is... good but not fantastic. My wife actually really liked it.

BigCatDaddy 04-18-2023 11:24 AM

Dungeon Master or Venger in this? I never played the game but loved the cartoon.

Fansy the Famous Bard 04-18-2023 11:32 AM

Dude, i loved the movie. Disclaimer: I was stoned when i saw it. That being said, 10/10 and would the whole thing, again.
