Just got a notification.

We’re set on the OL, but I thought it was interesting to see him get released at this point in the offseason. May follow the center into retirement.

Nagging small injuries and age, I suppose. He wasn't very good last year.

We sign this piece of shit yet?

Steelers have diddle on the OL and to a fault are loyal to their own... So the fact that this happened is pretty telling about DeCastro's health/fitness/value.

The Steelers are falling apart due to age. It happens.

Ben should have retired (years ago...). It's going to be UGLY for them this year. No OL, old immobile QB, and rookie RB with no running lanes.

From what I am hearing on XM radio they knew about Villanueva and DeCastro for awhile and started bringing in young OL.

FWIW I liked the Kendrick Green pick. Wonder if they’ll start him in DeCastro’s now vacant starting spot?

Also thought they had one of the most underrated drafts too. First 3 picks were good IMO

Barely over 30 and IIRC was pretty good at his peak. I wonder if he is one of those guys that sits a year and comes back as a journeyman for a few years, a la Wisniewski/Osemele/Long

Must have all the center's guards tackles and receivers etc.

Another prime example of the "will hold down his spot for a decade at all pro play" is just not the bar to set for any draft pick.

Kinda wished more guys did that to prolong their career but I know the $$$ and being replaced plays a factor.

I mean…he played 9 years and made the pro bowl in 6 and was all pro 3 times.

Agreed. He ****ing sucks unless he signs with the Kansas City Chiefs, then lock for 2021 All Pro and HOF first ballot.

I've probably told this story before but a few years back, I was hanging out with some friends that while they work in the entertainment business in various roles, all follow the NFL closely. Rich Eisen was there, as the host of that party sits in occasionally for Rich on his radio show, and we got to talking about the dumbest shit that announcers say during the draft.

Rich's #1 dumbest saying was "They're gonna plug this guy in at (name an offensive line position) and he'll start for 10 years!".

People say that shit all the time here as well. Hell, one CP member in the past couple of weeks said "He'll be a starter for the next 15 years!" when referring to Trey Smith. Hell, even Hall of Famer Will Shields didn't play 15 years. Eric Fisher, the Chiefs #1 overall draft pick, lasted 9 years in Kansas City.

If teams can get 5 years out of a guy, they're beating the curve.

Trey Smith is a high character guy, who plays well in space. Tremendous upside All he does is makes plays. Plug him in as a 10 year starter.

Yes. Everyone thinks every draft pick we get is a 10 year starter. I get tired of that sh*t around here.

5 years for a dude is great.

If he wasn't cooked the Steelers wouldn't have cut him loose and signed another guy.

A guy that only played in 9 games last year himself.

Absolutely. If a team can get two draft picks to hit every year that’s great. 3 is outstanding.

And by ‘hit’ I mean be productive. Not necessarily a hall of fame/superstar talent.

Draft picks are vital to success. Most of our team was built upon draft steals after the first rd.

They still have meaning but it makes an enormous difference if you can get L’Jarius Sneed’s, Tyreek Hill’s, Travis Kelce’s and Chris Jones’ after the first rd.

For reference, I would call Chiefs 2008 draft amazing. And we only hit on 4 of 12 picks.

Nobody said draft picks aren't vital to success.

He's saying people WAY overestimate their long-term value and he's absolutely right.

The average NFL player plays like 4 years.

We are going to have some cuts on the OL wonder if we can get something for one of our shit pieces.
