Drew Brees - Multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung
Huge news for one of the top NFC contenders.

Sounds like he's not going on IR, so they're only expecting maybe 3 weeks out.
|
That sucks.
Tom Brady rejoices. |
Dude owns Brady
|
Their next 3 are Falcons-Broncos-Falcons. Jameis should be able to handle that.
|
Holy shit

Ugh, sounds bad but I bet he recovers quickly

The Brady luck knows no bounds. It's crazy how lucky he gets.

Wow.. Dude is beat up.. Retirement is close..

But a couple years ago Deshaun Watson played a few games with a punctured lung, IIRC. I guess depending on exactly how your ribs are broke, you can play somehow. But it makes a lot of sense that if you're upcoming schedule features two teams that have a combined record of 6-12, rest your icon QB for three weeks, if you can. |

Anyone see a report of hospitalization?
If not, the "collapesd" lung would have to be minor/minimal, which would be good news. https://t.co/02MP0KkyZa
— David J. broken ribs are shitty enough to deal with, let alone a collapsed lung on top of it

Both sides?
What the HELL fell on him ? Was he part of a smack sandwich? |

I’ve had both & it was god awful pain. |

Got a flag thrown on him for unnecessary roughness. |
Why couldn't it be Brady out 3 weeks.
|
That's a painful injury, if you require moving or breathing.

Announcers were even questioning why the flag was thrown. Sucks for the Saints. |

Total quack. |
Ouch man that sounds painful. Hope he is able to bounce back.

He’s done

Dude got hurt his first game here, week 1 vs TB 1993. Dave Kreig started week 2. |
I had a collapsed lung twice (pneumothorax is the medical term) in 1976 and again in 1985 in the same lung. They pushed an oxygen tube in through your chest wall using a metal spike attached to the end. This releaves the pressure from around the lung and allows it to inflate back on it's own. Just like a cut, spontaneous regeneration of the puncture will heal on it's own. You must stay in the hospital for one week and they'll take an X-ray everyday to see if it's inflating, if not they'll have to go in and sew up the lung, usually the pucture is not that big, it's where it rips away from the breast bone. After one week, they clamp off the tube, but will not remove it, and then take an X-ray. If it is all healed, they remove the tube and you can go home. You'll rest for about 3 weeks.
At the time I worked in a control tower that was five story walk up with no elevator, I couldn't go back to work for a month, no exertion allowed or your reinjure the lung. I don't see how Drew can be back playing QB in less than 2 months if not longer, and I didn't even have broken ribs. |

Just crazy lucky for Brady again. The one team he can't beat loses their QB. I mean it's just ****ing stupid.

That's not the hit that got him this time, but it seems the 49ers do abuse Drew Brees. They were responsible for the current injuries

If he’s back by the Chiefs game week 15, he’ll be playing hurt.
|
Gat Dam.
Brees wanted to go back in the game. Tough as nails. |
Just rub some dirt on it and get a friendly injection from Dr. No.
Make sure he gives you the good stuff and walk that shit off. |
On a more pleasant side note, the McRib will be back nationwide starting December 2nd. For a limited time. Would it be wrong to send one to Drew as a get well soon gift? I’ll spring for the Grubhub bill if someone can find his home address.

The stars are aligning for Brady-Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

He should be practicing by Sunday. |

Had these injuries when I was 27, took like 3 months before I began to feel better.
|
Collapsed lung without a hospitalization? That’s not possible. And he was my fantasy QB. Dammitt

Something about skinny tall white kids are prone to lung collapse. They make up something like 50% of all lung collapse with no trauma involved. |

A collapsed lung heals in a matter of days. I know, I have had 7 of them.

Overly sore cracked ribs wont, though. I make 5 weeks my official guess. We'll see. |

I broke three ribs and had a collapsed lung due to a surfing accident in Mexico. The lung itself healed instantaneously. The fibrous mesh of your lung, once reconnected, seals up.
What I was left with was subcutaneous emphysema, AKA the air that escaped my lung filling up my chest cavity. Again, this doesn't hurt, but it took awhile for the swelling to go away. For three days I was hooked up to a machine that physically sucked air out of my chest cavity. I had a little hose sticking into my torso. My friend nicknamed me milkshake while I was still in the hospital. My fiancé was not amused. I was. the REAL pain was the muscles that wrapped around my torso. As your ribs reset, the excruciating abdominal pain lasts for weeks and is utterly debilitating. Getting out of bed was nearly impossible until I figured out how to slide my feet down first. Using your core muscles is virtually impossible. |
