‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ won’t appear on broadcast TV this year It will air through the Apple TV app or the Apple TV website (Gray News) – A Halloween tradition will be a bit different this year. For the first time ever, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” won’t air on broadcast television. AppleTV+ now holds the rights and will stream it at no cost to all viewers from Oct. 30 – Nov. 1 through the Apple TV app or the Apple TV website. Subscribers to AppleTV+ can watch the shows outside of those times. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” first aired in 1966. The streaming service also tells viewers to “get ready for more Peanuts specials this holiday season,” including “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” There will also be free viewing windows for those two shows. |
I own the box set, so I'm not too concerned, but still....

Doesn't really matter to me, we downloaded it for our daughter to watch. Those kids treat each other terribly. Not behaviors we want her emulating so we won't be watching it.
|
Bit of a false title isn't it?

Apple TV is great!

That's disappointing, but not really unexpected.

Glad I picked up the blu-ray boxed seat a few years back.
|
I purchased all of those box sets (Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Frosty 1 & 2, etc.) for my kids a few years back and what's always struck me as odd is that CBS airs the non-remastered Peanuts versions, where it's all noisy and dull looking.
To be honest, I never really "got" Peanuts. I love the Vince Guaraldi Trio but the animation is nothing special and most of the characters are all pretty much assholes, save for Charlie. |
It hasn't really mattered since you could watch it only once a year, and everybody in the country was watching it at the same time, with the same anticipation, knowing you'd have to wait another 12 months to see it again.
When this came on, your heart jumped a beat or two, because you knew what was next: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-4_d_6A8nE0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Time Marches on....
You know what though. I don't quite understand it. Charlie Brown isn't a that fun. He walks around all depressed and stuff. Not a fun ,happy cartoon. Not sure why it's that popular. |

I 100% agree with you on the quality...it completely blows on TV LMAO and the Peanuts were never my favorites. |

Never cared for Peanuts. We only watched it as kids because we were desperate for cartoons.
Peppermint Patty bugged the shit outa me. Franklin was a cool kat though |

I got a feeling a lot of our favorites as kids are going to go away.

Apple licensed the broadcast rights so this is not "going to go away". |

We still have Rudolph on CBS Special presentation right?

I'm sure the other reindeer and their microagressions won't be tolerated forever. :) |
It was painful for my kids to see and hear the way they minimized the teacher and stole her voice. Good riddance.

The Rights Holders will earn more money on a streamer year round as opposed to basically 4 weeks out of the year, especially this transition era, in which Live TV is down nearly 23% across the board while streaming numbers are soaring. |

You're absolutely correct. Many of the classic are already available on streaming platforms. There are crazy people other there like my mother-in-law that like to watch Rankin-Bass Christmas specials in July. :D |

All that to say, i love watching Stop motion animation. great stuff. |
Kind of surprised all those old Rankin Bass specials haven't been sold to streaming services, nearly all of them moved off of broadcast TV years ago and aired on ABC Family(or whatever its called now), but they've increasingly been filling 25 Days of Christmas with movies.
Hell they even have the Garfield one on YouTube on an official account for free. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TbL-uxd4ZVw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I was expecting a story on how the libtards thought it was racist and cancelled it

ROFL We actually already have "most" of the holiday movies on DVD...but this did make me wonder if Ted Turner will sell the rights to "A Christmas Story" - thus stopping the 24 hour marathon showing each year. I really hope not. It has become something of a tradition for me and my family... |

There isn't a TV series or comedy show made prior to 1980 that can be aired today.

People would rage at all the gay jokes in that. |
people always say shit like that, but then stuff like Always Sunny gets new seasons so...

And..Blazing Saddles, Bad news Bears, Archie Bunker... |

Blazing Saddles and Bad News Bears are on premium channels constantly and neither were ever shown without massive edits on OTA TV. All In The Family? Where have YOU been? Jimmy Kimmel has been producing All In The Family and Good Times LIVE remakes for the past two years. Woody Harrelson as Archie, Marisa Tomei as Edith - hell, even John Amos appeared as a character! |
Butker going to have pspd of when charlie lines one up
|
I hadn't looked it up, since I already own it, but I saw someone post about the cheapest they could find the Peanuts Holiday Collection being $125. I went to Amazon, and blu-rays and 4k's are out of stock, DVD's are going to about $145-$150 on there. I probably paid $20 for the DVD set about five years ago.

Watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on Apple TV right now. Looks outstanding on my 75 inch HDR
