TRON 3 is apparently in the works for Disney

Starring Jared Leto.

Apparently it won't be a continuation of TRON: Legacy though (from what I've read online but what do I know)

https://deadline.com/2020/08/garth-d...ie-1202992103/

If this actually happens, I'll definitely give it a shot but I wish Hedlund & Wilde were in this (she played the smoking hot Quorra)

TRON: Legacy came out in the height of the 3D craze back in 2010, and I LOVE and own the soundtrack to TRON Legacy. Daft Punk's soundtrack was booming when I saw it in IMAX 3D. Such a cool experience.

Here's hoping for the best.

Jared Leto as the new lead, it could be awesome or gurgle yak sack

I dont think it's possible to be worse than that carboard cutout of an actor they used in Legacy. He was bad.

Frazod 08-10-2020 03:27 PM

The last Tron wasn't bad, but it was obviously missing some scenes that would have made it make a lot more sense. It's like they ran out of time, money, and/or give a shit and just slapped together what they had.

DaneMcCloud 08-10-2020 03:30 PM

I loved the original Tron and while Tron 2 wasn't bad, this feels more like something that would fit better on Disney+ than as a theatrical release

JD10367 08-10-2020 07:25 PM

They were both nonsensical but they both had quite the style. The original, considering what effects were like back then, did as good a job as they could at the time. The sequel had a great look to it and a great soundtrack. And, yes, Olivia Wilde in tight black rubber pants is always a good thing. Not really sure what the point of a "Tron 3" would be, though. Then again, I'm not sure what the point of an "Avatar 2" is...

007 08-11-2020 06:09 PM

I love tron so I'll give it a shot, but could not care less about Leto. Almost sounds like a reboot instead of a continuation.

Cillian Murphy and hopefully David Warner will be signed on

You would think it would be about Sam and Quorra in the real world with a new baddie from the Grid trying to get out or get her back. Maybe that will be Leto?

I'm right there with you in regards to the soundtrack. I've had it since the movie came out and listen to it every now and then to this day. Overall, TRON:Legacy is one of my favorite movies; just felt like it was really visually and aurally pleasing.

DaneMcCloud 08-12-2020 03:22 PM

The idea of Tron just seems so small in today's world. I'm just not seeing how or why this would be exciting to the younger crowed and feels more like a nostalgia move than anything else.

Disney's Ralph Wrecks The Internet started with a video game, then pivoted to the internet, in which characters experienced games and apps firsthand.

The Emoji Movie was similar in that the characters were inside of a phone that was connected to the internet, in which they also had trials and tribulations through various apps.

I loved the original but thought the sequel was just "okay". That said, Disney rarely makes mistakes so hopefully, they'll have a new and exciting concept for this film.

Deberg_1990 08-12-2020 03:32 PM

I was never a huge fan of the original and thought the sequel was cool to look at with a killer score but overall pretty 'meh'

I think the ideas behind these films were better than the execution.

Not sure how large an audience and demand there is to justify a 3rd film in this series?

Yeah, I don't know what's going on.

I was told quite a while ago that Disney was developing a series for Tron that would air on Disney+.

Then earlier this year, word was that Joseph Kosinski, who helmed Tron 2, was returning after he finished up Top Gun 2.

Then, this. I don't get it.

They'd have to go a Terminator Skynet route or an AI virus to make it work

BWillie 08-12-2020 04:13 PM

I just like the name TRON.

Now the real problem will be not seeming like they're ripping off The Matrix even though the Wachowski's ripped off The Tron franchise with its setup

I looked up "gurgle yak sack" on urban dictionary. And then google. I found nothing except this thread.

Please advise the meaning of this phrase. Thank you for your assistance.

Ok thank you.

I'm adding this to urban dictionary now that we speak.

:)

When is the Matrix TV Series? That is what I'm waiting for. Would be an awesome TV series.

One way they can change the narrative that is happening in real life is that Elon Musk created Neuralink a corporation that's attempting to create microchip implants for a cure for alzheimer's disease and other neurological issues.

The ethical issue is the possibility of enhancing intelligence, and elements of control too

Thus not really science fiction but a possible reality

The idea behind this is incredible. I remember the basic premise he discussed behind this as we already have a smartphone in our pockets that can give us all the information we need quickly. These implants would remove that middleman. The capital needed to overcome the resistance to this idea would be huge. It reminds me of a board game I play called Pax Transhumanity.

In my film class, the professor made us watch Tron since it was groundbreaking in terms of effects for the time period. It must have been carried by the effects because the story wasn't great.

I feel like this is one of those franchises Disney thinks should be huge but it never pans out.

Agree 100%. While there are moments in both movies I like, I feel both movies are mostly inert.

I thought ready player one did a better job than tron 2 in regards to the original tron.

Molitoth 01-17-2022 08:18 AM

One movie in relation to TRON that has always been under-rated is "The Thirteenth Floor".

Similar type concept, that I recall was well done... but that was a long time ago. Now I want to watch it again.

arrowheadnation 01-18-2022 10:44 AM

I wonder if they'll try to make it align with the opening of the Tron ride in Disney World....they've only been working on it for what seems like 10 years...closer to 3 though, but still.

I thought Ready Player One was a great movie, but you could tell who made it. I'm surprised it wasn't more popular TBH.

Yeah, that was a cool flick with a neat twist to it. I have it in my DVD collection. Plus, Gretchen Moll is hot as hell.

The book was ten times as good as the movie, and the audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton is ten times better than that.

sully1983 01-19-2022 01:11 PM

It obviously won't ever happen but just to put into perspective how much I loved seeing this film in theaters, If Disney re released TRON: Legacy in IMAX 3D today , I would drop everything and be first in line to buy a ticket to see it again lol . That's how much I loved seeing this on the biggest screen possible.

Also I keep forgetting that TRON: Legacy was the directorial debut for Joseph Kosinski. IMO he did an impressive job directing such a huge budget sci film for his first feature.

I agree that the book was much better than the movie, and I enjoyed the hell out of the movie. Have watched it a few times now.

I haven't seen that one. Need to add it to the queue.
