What to get with a ps4?

We just got the ten year old boy a ps4 for Christmas. It only came with one controller and fortnite. What accesories or games should I get him? I ask this of my Chiefsplanet friends because I know nothing about video games.

Thanks in advance, Joey

ThaVirus 12-04-2019 05:27 PM

Fortnite and/or the latest Call of Duty will probably keep any 10 year old boy occupied for a while. You'll need a PS Plus subscription in order for him to play CoD online with his friends, though, and that'll run you another $60 per year.

Other than that you probably couldn't go wrong with any Game of the Year edition in the bargain bin. Games like The Amazing Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn should appeal to a 10 year old and can be had for $15 or less.

ToxSocks 12-04-2019 05:31 PM

1. A 2nd controller for when his friends/cousins come over or when he asks you to play with him. Real shit. And make sure it's an actual Sony OEM controller. Don't cheap out and buy a 3rd party, they're all ****ing garbage. Better off wiping your ass with your $$$ than buying a 3rd party controller.

2. Don't forget your PS+ account. Buy your PS+ subscription either yearly or every 6 months or so ( i forget how they offer it). Paying for it monthly is considerably more expensive.

3. For games, you got Fortnite covered which is a must have. The little kids, in my experience, also really like Mine Craft and Little Big Planet.

4. A good mic. I mean, you don't have to right away. But @ 10, he's not far from wanting to play online with friends.

ToxSocks 12-04-2019 05:34 PM

Oh, and some ****ing USB charging cables.....unless you want your 10 year old borrowing the one you use for your cell phone....pick a few up...as they surely get lost/broken.

ToxSocks 12-04-2019 05:42 PM

Oh and lastly, don't feel like you need to get any of those overpriced headsets they sell in Gamestop etc.

Pretty much any gaming headset will work. Don't get suckered in by overpriced crap like TurtleBeach etc.

You can pick up a nice Corsair or Logitech gaming headset for $50. Or you can go even cheaper than that....he is just 10 afterall.

My kid broke his headset recently. Now he's using some cheap ass ear plugs with a mic, cost like $10 @ Wal-Mart and he loves it lol.

Sofa King 12-04-2019 05:58 PM

Take him to a gamestop or something and let him pick out his own cheap pre-owned games.

That. I’ve bought hundreds of used games over the last 15 years or more and I’ve never had an issue with any of them. And I think you have like a 3day return policy in used games. So if you buy one and it sucks pipe, (looking at you UFC game with Ronda and Conner) just take it back for a full refund credit.

Damn. I miss being excited about Christmas as a kid.

Like others say, Call of Duty will keep any kid occupied. Fortnite is good and free. Spiderman too.

And make sure they are at least 6 feet long. 10 feet is better.

Detox is right. Minecraft and Little Big Planet are great for that age. Also MX vs. ATV.

Get him Bloodborne. He'll grow up real fast playing that game. ROFL

KurtCobain 12-04-2019 10:53 PM

Thanks, fellas. I see some good ideas. I appreciate it.

A Salt Weapon 12-04-2019 11:17 PM

My 8 and 10 year olds really like ratchet and clank, the uncharted series (although the language is bad at times), madden, the Star Wars version of battlefront, baseball etc.

if he really wanted to teach the kid a harsh lesson about humanity, he'd pick up Ark Survival and have him start out on a PVP server.

LMAOLMAOLMAO

That's sick and sadistic. At least you don't have to deal with human beings in BB. The world itself is Lovecraft horror.

Fishpicker 12-05-2019 12:38 AM

everything detoxing said plus a "playstation now" subscription. its playstation games from all the generations on demand. it's pretty baller. you'll probably see some retro stuff that you like too, Kurt

Demonpenz 12-05-2019 01:56 AM

The johnson county library has tons of games. Check your library if they have games.

Or just buy one of the charging stands for like $10. I have one and it charges both of my controllers just fine. Haven’t had an issue with it since I bought it.

Rausch 12-05-2019 12:16 PM

Right now there are a bunch of cheap ($2-$20) but quality PS2, PS3, and PS4 games on the PS store. If you hooked the unit up and d-loaded some games for it before wrapping it back up it would be a nice surprise within a surprise.

ChiefBlueCFC 12-05-2019 03:03 PM

We have Jay's CD and Hobby here in Des Moines and they have crazy cheap games, controllers etc. They don't just have old games they have current ones as well. I've purchased a few games from there and haven't had any issues.

I'm sure that KC has a similar store (haven't lived in KC since 13, and can't remember).

srvy 12-05-2019 03:55 PM

Did anyone mention the whole Lego's series? Kids loved those games.

Honestly for people this Christmas I would save your money for next year's new console launch unless you get one for cheap.

$199 PS4 on black Friday week, probablyclose to the same for Christmas week. A year in a young kids life is something you never get back, there aren't many and they go fast. Buy the damn thing.

Also Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. That kid will be a man in no time! For real though all 4 of those games are amazing.

I'm definitely shopping around for a good headset. Think I found a good deal for a Logitech brand. Already picked up a second controller, got an actual Sony per Detoxings advice. Also, good heads up about the ps+ account, I had no idea. I know the whole reason he wants one of these things is to play online with his friends back home since they are moving out of town. He plays on his mom's xbox now, and I told him he's got no shot at the ps this year, but we got him one for 200 on black friday.

Thanks for all the help fellas. I'm gonna look into games later this week. I think fortnite is his main focus, but he loves the Lego movies, so I'm going to look into the Lego games and minecraft as well.

Get Resident Evil 2

Unbelievable remake.

Edit: just noticed it’s for a 10 year old. Don’t do that LMAO

Meh, I was playing Resident Evil when I was 10 and I turned out fine, aside from the alcoholism and personality disorders.
