Mahomes + Dome

So the last time Mahomes played a regular or post-season game in a dome was vs. Bayler. He scored 6 touchdowns and threw for almost 600 yds. Will be interesting to see if there's a marked jump in his stats this Sunday in Motor City. If so, how fast can the Hunts get a dome built? :hmmm: But seriously, if ever an offense was built for a dome, this would seem to be it. Would the Rams have been as good in their best years in St. Louis w/o a dome?

Can't wait until Sunday...

I don't care so much about the dome as I do that fast track turf.

If Hill was healthy with Hardman...damn we'd be legit fast.

Butker should be able to kick a few 60+ yarders.

Halfcan 09-26-2019 11:21 AM

I don't think the Lions will be able to handle our speed at any position.

Mecca 09-26-2019 11:24 AM

The Lions are built as a big and physical defense, they can't run with the Chiefs but they'll likely try to bully them because it's really all they can do.

Weather can't hurt Mahomes more than it can the opposing QB. His mother was a mudder. His father was a mudder. He loves the slop.

Football is better outside in my opinion.

Did you even watch the Colts playoff game? The weather effectively took Luck out of the game. Mahomes was slinging it. We have a dome, that game is most likely a lot closer.

Isn’t it Bahlore? The history of sheep?

chiefzilla1501 09-26-2019 11:43 AM

Just curious, is there any history of how away teams do in domes? They're obviously faster and better on offense. But I wonder if some of the timing with receivers is a little different.

The new turf is supposed to be exponentially safer, right? Are more injuries reported by the Cowboys, Pats, Seahawks, Colts, Falcons & Ravens? Are the players on those teams complaining about getting injuries from the turf? I've not heard about any complaints from the players' union. Usually they're pretty vocal about that kind of stuff. Kind of like the cancelled game in Mexico last year.

Bullshit. That wasn't bad weather. Nothing close to what some playoff games look like. This team is not a run team. (And the weather damn sure didn't slow Luck down.) Watch the video below.

RaidersOftheCellar 09-26-2019 11:47 AM

Not sure why people think their defense is so powerful. Statistically, they're about identical to ours in terms of yards. And Baltimore is better than any offense they've faced.

If they're as slow as everyone says, I think our offense will have its way. Probably a similar plan as in Oakland (abandon the run almost completely). I do think their offense will move the ball somewhat. I'm guessing a 45-27 type of game.

Sorce 09-26-2019 11:48 AM

I generally agree. It just seems like this team, more than any other, is built for turf. Guess we'll have a small sample size after Sunday's game.

God and every NFL fan. Had a conference call with some folks in Los Angeles this morning. All anyone wanted to talk about was Patrick Mahomes. I was astonished at the level of interest. I've been dealing with these folks for quite a few years. Prior to Mahomes, none of them had ever expressed an interest in the Chiefs.

I actually think the next stadium will be a dome or retractable roof. Economic forces will likely push it that way. If the Chiefs come begging for taxpayer assistance to build, government will likely be asking for a facility that could bring other future economic benefits to the area (Super Bowl, Final Four, etc.). On the other hand, if Clark tries to build a privately funded stadium, pressures will exist to maximize revenues to fund the building when Chiefs are not playing. Both scenarios point to a climate controlled facility IMO. Another factor that will ultimately come into play as well is eliminating as many reasons why fans would choose to stay home as opposed to watching the game at home. Bad weather would be another "excuse" the team could eliminate by a climate controlled stadium.

Historically, dome teams aren't very successful at winning championships in the NFL.

Plus, Arrowhead would just look weird as a dome.

htismaqe 09-26-2019 02:23 PM

I don't know if it's because of the profusion of domes with artificial turf in the recent past but I've always associated indoor stadiums with injuries. I hate them.

Fan enthusiasm high for the Chiefs; new ownership of the Royals might re-energize some fans there as well.

Probably a pretty good idea but my recollection is that some later analysis was that the 'cover both stadiums' roof idea was kinda doomed to failure. And didn't the Chiefs just get about $100 million for renovations about 7-8 years ago? May not be able to go back to the well so soon.

But you're right - it might be a good time to ask.

probably a bit of both. You can tell Mahomes still wasn't running very smoothly. He had injured his knee earlier in the season and was wearing a brace. Amazing how well he moved, given the circumstances.

True story. Another aspect is that Mahomes and the Chiefs are receiving a lot of positive interest these days. Throw in a new stadium and KC would be a lock for a Super Bowl. That's assuming that they have, or will have, enough hotel rooms.

Completely agree. Part of the character of Arrowhead is that it's an outdoor venue. The weather in December/January is part of the homefield advantage. It's why no one wants to go to Green Bay or Chicago for the playoffs. It's why outdoor teams generally have an advantage over dome teams late in the year.

Domes build pussies who can't play good football in January. Some guy on Reddit statistically analyzed this and proved it with over thousands of data sets.

Keep it the way it is. We have the advantage.

Yeah, it's a serious risk. I'd never want to see a dome in Foxboro, and don't understand why any non-dome team now would want a dome. Peyton Dome-Boy Manning and the rest of the Colts got rocked every January in New England in part because, OMG, wind! Cold!

It wouldn't be a dome. It would be a retractable roof. Able to come on and off as we please.

And traveling to new England is a short term problem. Tom Brady is retiring sooner rather than later relative to Mahomes career. I'm not worried about going there.

Peyton Manning didn't get wrecked by cold. He was just shitty in the post season period. He had Superbowls in domes and in Miami and was shitty in those games too. So yeah, the fact that it's cold in new England had nothing to do with him not being good.

No, it was just pressure.

He was literally a hair off on a few throws.

He's mortal and a "bad day" turns out to be 315 yards instead of 400.
