-- Let's discuss your favorite fast food french fries
Talk to us about your favorite fast food french fries. I'm okay with Applebee tier fries as well.
For me i'd say it's still McDonalds. Honestly not many just blow me away. I like a steak fry type, I'd say. But flavor I still give to McDonalds. couple of reviews: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZBfLs0Hf2wg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w2PCxr6Jfmo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Curly fries. All day every day.
|
I like the thinner ones more than the thicker ones. I'm glad you said McDonald's, because they are the best in the fast food world.
Well, there's Chick Fil A, of course. Their waffle fries are awesome, in part because they hold their ketchup so well. Chick Fil A may be the winner the more I think about it. |
In N Out

I'm not sure about favorite, but my LEAST favorite is Burger King. Those things suck ass! Maybe Five Guys or Wing Stop.

Assuming maximum heat and freshness, McDonald's probably.

I think Tiny Evel either owned one or stock there - or just swore by them - I think it was him - him or another poster here on CP. |
When it comes to actual fast food, Checkers. Their seasoned fries are the shit.
As someone said in the Steak and Shake thread, though, Red Robin's steak fries are awesome. But I don't consider that fast food. |

Next to some great beer battered fries, the RR fries are so ****ing good. |
I'm one of those weird people that like only super crispy fries or soggy fries.
Normal cooked fries do nothing for me. So my opinion in this thread is probably worthless. |
I do like Checkers fries as well Frazod - but their burgers seem to have fallen off the tasty charts. Not NEARLY as tasty as they once were.
|
Every foodie article I've ever read always says McDonalds, and while they're ok they're not my favorite
I prefer a thicker cut fry, Wendys or even Burger King for example... but the bottom line is just about any fry is good when fresh from the fryer |

I'm like this with onions. Either kill them or don't cook them at all. For example - I can't handle onions atop a pizza. |

I do really like Arby's curly fries. |
wonder how HiBoy fries are?

I'm a fan of the Culvers krinkel cut fry, but yeah McDonalds are money
|
I dont get the love that Mcdonalds get for the fries. They get cold fast and taste nasty then.
Honestly I am not a big fry fan but if they got them I always favor crinkle fries and steak fries a close second. |

They seem to switch them up every year or so trying to fix it, but they never fail to fail... its always a soggy, under cooked mess |
Any oldtimers remember Grifs? I always remember the fries shoestring cruchy salty golden and hot.

Braums fries are the best

Pondegrossa fries were the only thing they got right on the menu. Plump salty hot and crunchy steak fries.

They seem to be dying in this area, though. There's only one left that's even remotely close to me. Which is probably a good thing, because holy shit that stuff is horribly unhealthy. Once or twice a year as a guilty pleasure meal is more than enough. |

Their fries are shit - I think i use tartar to help with them - yes they're not good for you - does anyone remember that yellow pineapple sauce at Cptn D's? It had little bits of pineapple in it - the chick strips worked so well with it. |

White Castle is the most disgusting fast food place ever.
However, I do like their fries and coffee. |

I hate onions, so I've never even set foot inside a White Castle.
Their frozen chicken sandwiches are pretty good, though. |
If you live near an Arby's that is run well their curly fries beat McD's. Also Rally's (if you can find one) battered french fries beat McD's. Looking them up just now Checkers and Rally's are the same company, so I would imagine that the fries are the same.

I'm not a big fry eater. McDonald's in Eldorado KS has All You Can Eat Fries dine-in

McDonalds for me.
Steak fries are a risk as they can end to being under-cooked. As Frazod highlighted earlier. |
McDonals fries. Whataburger fries are pretty good as well.
I'm not a fan of steak fries. Shoestring every time. |

McDonalds are always solid, although I rarely eat there anymore other than breakfast.
5 Guys are always good. I also love me some Arby's curly fries dipped in their cheddar cheese. |
Burger King's fries are underrated.

Amazing quality, consistently great service, and their fries are a very close second to McD's. I've never had a bad experience there, ever. I could easily eat lunch there every day. |

Outside Red Robin steak fries and Rallys/Checkers seasoned fries, I'm more concerned with quality dipping sauces.
I'm not a big fan of ketchup on fries [even though I love it fine on hash browns or home fries at breakfast. Go figure], so I want a good honey mustard or chipotle sauce. For example, Culvers fries are objectively your basic Ore-Ida frozen aisle crinkle fries. But you always get them fresh, and their honey mustard is on point. Burger King does go a tad overboard with their 'crisp enhancer' coating, to where it's more of a potato product than a fry. To be fair, they're like Rallys seasoned fries without the seasoning. One that goes unnoticed is Penn Station. They slice the fries from whole potatoes and fry them up right in front of you while they make your sub. Nothing remarkable, except the transparency of fresh ingredients. Least favorite I know will be an unpopular choice. I don't know what it is about Arby's curly fries. I can watch them come out of the fryer onto my tray and before I sit down they are cold. They ought to use them to insulate the space shuttle for their heat shedding properties. |
RED ROBIN!
|
MC Ds are pretty solid when fresh
KC joes are great Red Robin & gates steak fries are good when fresh I've always thought 5 guys frys were aids and all around soggy awful Steak and shake shoestring fries are meh Arby's curly fries are good sometimes Chic fil a waffle fries are good Typically I skip the fries at most locations unless it's paired with what I ordered without much option to change (beef on bun with fries etc) |

Five Guys and Wing Stop's fries are really similar, but Wing Stop salts the shit out of theirs. Still love them. I have always liked KFC's wedges and Church's crinkle cut fries, too.
Locally here in KC, 54th Street has an appetizer called Fry Me to the Moon. It comes with a really freaking yummy chipotle ranch dipping sauce, and the stuff is like crack. |
Rallies is tied with McDonalds for me
|
Sombo's on metcalf

They ARE cut daily, but a fresh cut potato wouldn't fry well. It needs a water soak to remove some of the starch. Every Five Guys I've ever been to has their cut potatoes hanging out in a bucket of ice water. |
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I really like Steak & Shake's shoestring fries. Smashburger's are very similar.
McDonald's fries are just about the only thing there I enjoy. Wendy's were good until they went the "natural" route a few years ago. Arby's curly fries are pretty great. Five Guys are excellent if you order them "well done." |

It's basically Poverty White Castle. |
