Tell me what you think! I think this game looks amazing. I know the development is taking a long time. But this is a small company making this game, and the progress they have made is amazing!

The possibilities for this game really are amazing, and the scale is going to be great! Can't wait to have real EvE online type battles!

Beef Supreme 08-23-2016 08:17 AM

I pledged a few years ago. If they ever get around to finishing it I will play the shit out of it. But saying it's a small company making this game when they have a couple hundred million in pledges is kinda bullshit. It started as a small company. If they aren't a good bit bigger by now, they are some greedy assholes.

I pledged in late 2014 and got a Cutlass Black. It is a 3 crew ship so I can either fly alone or 3 of us can go pirating together, board ships, and shit of that nature.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WWJ2GjOmP2k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That said... I have yet to play the game even once. I don't want to bother with it until it is at least in Beta and I don't want to deal with things like people getting stuck in the gunners nest because there is no working down button.

hometeam 08-23-2016 12:41 PM

Tangentgaming on twitch is going on a star citizen bender. Game LOOKS amazing, still very alpha, runs like shit, and is basically price gouging at the moment.

Beyond that, i think eventually its gonna be pretty sweet in a lot of ways.

WhitiE 08-23-2016 04:09 PM

Backed it and pledged. Can't ****ing wait for this game.

pr_capone 09-16-2016 11:47 PM

The re-work on my ship (Cutlass Black) was officially announced today. I'm ****ing pumped. The guy doing the actual re-design was taking suggestions on Reddit and let us know that the Drake Dragonfly will indeed be able to be deployed from the Cutlass.

I am so pumped about this that I went ahead and bought the Dragonfly. Holy shit... Piratey times ahead.

pr_capone 10-04-2016 12:56 PM

My brother has purchased the game and will be flying around with me in a Reliant Tana Skirmisher.

My wife has heard me do nothing but mumble to myself about this game to the point where it peaked her interest. After watching some videos, she decided to go into the research aspect of the game and we got her a Reliant Sen Researcher.

YAAAAAAAY!

The Squadron 42 campaign for Star Citizen is delayed until 2017, reports Kotaku UK, saying the news was revealed during a livestream from CitizenCon. The first chapter of the single-player side of the space simulator was most recently supposed to come to backers this year, but this news confirms rumors of a delay that surfaced last month. On the bright side, Eurogamer notes that Cloud Imperium Games released a new video showing off how planets will be procedurally generated in the game, along with other tidbits, including a sandworm, though they don't specify whether this is showing us Beetleguise or Dune. Back to the delay, the Kotaku UK story offers two slides with details on the state of the project, and here is what those say:

https://www.bluesnews.com/s/175376/s...ron-42-delayed

pr_capone 10-10-2016 01:53 PM

The delay doesn't bother me in the least. The scale at which they are trying to accomplish things is bigger than anything that has been attempted for a video game not only in terms of graphics and art but also in terms of how all encompassing it is as a space game, FPS, and racing sim.

I honestly don't expect the Star Citizen game to be at full release until Q4 2018 at the earliest. As for the first chapter of Squadron 42... I'm guessing a summer release in 2017.

Beef Supreme 02-08-2017 06:53 PM

If this kind of game has you curious at all, this video should give you a semi.

when they finish it i might give a shit, but if it stays as it is now, and you have to invest massive sums of money into the game, it still doesnt matter.

I'm glad to hear that people here are playing this game! Don;t worry about this being all the more game that there will be... here is a site that has a nice roadmap laid out.

I thought it was pretty honest. I guess I am too used to Chiefs Planet, where saying what you think is just responded to with a "**** you."

This game is free to play from 11/23-11/30.

I've been playing quite a bit over the past week and am massively impressed with what they are doing with this game so far. I've only played the persistent universe aspect of the game and have not attempted the FPS portion as of yet.

This game feels like one of those softcore porn models that tease without ever showing anything. Every set was shot over a single weekend and slowly released over a couple years while never giving up the goods.

Star Citizen just feels like it's never going to be released and if by some miracle it is theres going to be that disappointment of the missing money shot.

Have you played it recently?

Some current game play. Dude had landed at a drug lab and someone came up and destroyed his ship. Then then landed and proceeded to die.

I really hope this game turns into a FPS version of EVE online

So, did the guy that lost the ship really lose it? I mean, those things sell for thousands of dollars........

I just read an article that states that all cash paid ships have lifetime insurance.

All paid ships do not come with lifetime insurance. For example, my ship has 6 months of insurance and from then forward my character will pay in game credits to renew that insurance. I *COULD* lose my ship (that I paid for) if I were to let the insurance lapse and it was destroyed.

All ships that you can purchase with cash can also be purchased via in-game credits so its not pay to win as much as it is pay money to help develop the game and you are given the gift of a ship.

I think that is exactly what it is going to be. You will have the option to stay in relatively safe areas and not get blown up but if you head into sketchy territory then you could wind up in a dogfight/firefight.

That aside, there are two games being developed at once... the other being Squadron 42 which is going to be more of a ground troops based FPS with some light flying elements thrown in. Star Citizen, on the other hand, is going to be primarily space based with ground elements thrown in for those who want it.

Lot of wrong in this post. There are two games being developed. But Squadron 42 is a single player game with campaign missions in the same universe as the multiplayer Star Citizen. Both will make use of space and ground environments as well as the interior of some massive ships. If they ever finish building the game.

Your entire first paragraph may not be wrong, but it may not be right either. We don't know exactly how that will all shake out at this point, but there will be pvp.

Sometimes you see a damn nice car and then you get in it to test drive and the doors dont close right, the paint/body isn't as nice as you thought, the brake pedal is mushy, it has rattles where it shouldn't and it's just an overall clunky mess.

That's the vibe i'm getting here.

Huh? What was the "lots wrong'? Squadron 42 is going to be an FPS that is mostly ground based with some flying. It's also going to be payable offline.

Star Citizen will be MMORPG that is mostly space based but still have FPS elements even you land in areas that are sketchy such as the drug lab or ares that are not patrolled.

I'm pretty sure that I stated there will be some FPS things going on within star citizen. For example... the video i posted showing PVP taking place at the drug lab. But, none of that is going on at Port Olisar because it is an armistice area.

There is space based and ground based gameplay in both games. I have no idea why you think Squadron 42 is mostly ground based. A good portion of the game is based out of a capital ship carrier. Or why you think Star Citizen will be mostly space based. There are huge (and I mean ****ing massive) planets and moons in the alpha build right now that you can fly to and explore. Though being alpha, the content to be found at these locations is limited.

There should be plenty of FPS ground stuff and spaceship flying stuff in both games. There will be PvP, and it might be everywhere, with no armistice areas. It might go through quite a few changes before they get it where they want it.

Squadron 42 is a single player game. It is not "also going to be playable offline." It is ONLY going to be playable offline. It will have a campaign story.

Star Citizen will ONLY be playable online. And it is the persistent universe, with missions that will vary wildly depending on what you feel like doing. In Star Citizen, there will be some loose profession types that missions will be based around, for example, cargo hauling, exploration, mining, salvaging, smuggling, piracy, military, etc. But you aren't locked into any one profession, so you can do whatever you feel like and have the equipment to deal with.

I'm chillin with it. Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012.

Shit this ambitious takes time.

This is a video made by players in the current alpha. The game is a long way from done, but you gotta appreciate this.

Star Citizen has been in development for well over a decade now, during which time it has raised more than $450 million in crowdfunding, and if you're wondering why it's still in an alpha state after all that time and money, the latest update from developer Cloud Imperium Games might hold a clue.

Star Citizen is doing 'bedsheet deformation' physics now, because of course it is

So is anyone happy with their investment in this game? This is the original Wing Commander guy right? I was never a fan of those games, but it's interesting to see where these fat devs are now. :)

I'll admit that I enjoy reading about the disaster that is Star Citizen. I'm a little surprised that people still give them money though. Sure, some individuals will never admit they were scammed, but I figured enough people would have jumped ship by now.

It's pretty much the video game version of Star Trek Anaxar. Both run by weasels, and neither will ever be completed.

I was sorely tempted at one point to buy into Star Citizen. Glad I didn't bother.

But, someday, those sheets are going to look great!

Mephistopheles Janx 05-10-2022 08:19 PM

I still have fun.

I've played with an Australian organization and it was a blast. We held the skies over Jumptown for about 4 hours one night while we fought off SEVERAL waves of other players/orgs coming in trying to buy drugs. We were dropping Freelancers, Caterpillar, and I even dropped in on my Cutlass and loaded up a round for myself at the end.

Best part of the night though was that my ship was heavily damaged so I landed and I began firing a railgun at someone approaching jumptown in a land vehicle and blowing them up.

Another night we invaded an empty Hammerhead, flew it out into space, and invited another org in to participate in a training scenario where we all set up as if we were the crew carrying a VIP. The other org breached the ship from an unknown location and we all communicated via Discord as to where they were. The other org had to sweep the ship looking for that one VIP and kill him.

They actually made it into the room where the VIP was but by that point there were only two of them and 5 of us so while we won... it took a heavy toll had that been reality.

Yes, some shit is buggy but there is already SO MUCH to do and it is only in Alpha.

Does is suck that it has been in alpha for 10 years. Absolutely.

Am I stoked for when it finally has a full release 15 years from now? **** yes I am.

By the time this shit releases the gaming engine will be outdated. The graphics will look average for its time and i bet it'll be buggy as shit.
