Boxing

Any chance Mayweather loses?

rico 05-04-2012 08:01 PM

Cotto is a badass for sure.... I never have high hopes that Mayweather will lose, but if anyone could possibly beat him, I think it'd be Cotto or Pac. I have hated FM Jr. ever since his Jeremy Lin comments. What a total tool box.

In58men 05-04-2012 08:05 PM

Mayweather gots this under control

Shogun 05-04-2012 08:07 PM

absolutely not.

kcxiv 05-04-2012 08:19 PM

Cotto hits hard and is fast and has recovered from the Margarito illegal hand wraps. I dont think he was the same fighter for a few fights after that. He's been fighting really well.

Not saying Cotto will win or anything, but i think its gonna be alot closer then people think.

KC native 05-04-2012 08:43 PM

Cotto has a very very very very very very slim chance of winning, but he does have the power to maybe get lucky. I think it goes the distance with Mayweather winning 7 rounds and Cotto 5.

Boxing Shmoxing... whats going on in MMA?

Sorry, just mo.

SDChiefs 05-04-2012 09:26 PM

Mayweather will only fight someone he knows he can beat. Cant lose his undefeated record. So i think mayweather will win. Next up for mayweather... the special olympics bronze medal winner.

I agree, but he loves to spend cash and the hill can't be too far away. He has too get caught w/ his chin out at some point.

Does it really matter anymore? MMA now rules. Boxing will soon be altogether gone in due time IMHO due to our thirst as a society for the more violent morbidity of MMA.

Stanley Nickels 05-04-2012 10:28 PM

MMA's success has got to put boxing's powers that be in a position to have to arrange Mayweather/Pacquiao, right? I mean, the sport's relevancy is waning on a near-daily basis. That's the kind of fight that can turn the sport around, no exaggeration.. if they're allowed to continually avoid each other, a matchup two years down the road could turn into a "tree falls in the forest" situation.

Boxing's powers all have self-serving interests. The alphabet soup governing bodies are too political and the promoters are only concerned with their boxers' bank accounts, not the health of the sport.

The reason why MMA is winning is because they show the fights that people want to see. UFC is very good at matching the two best from a weight class.

Like typical boxing, when we finally see Mayweather-Pacquiao, it's going to be five years too late. By then, Mayweather will be even more defensive and boring because of added age and Pacquiao won't be at the peak of his craft.

After the last Marquez fight, Pacquiao in 2012 is the not same Pac Man that everybody fell in love with three years ago. And Mayweather is in his mid-30s now.

Even if Mayweather-Pacquiao decide to fight in November 2012, we as boxing fans have already been robbed of seeing both at their best.

Tomorrows boxing match will shatter anything mma has EVER done. Probably 2 mma events combined.

While Boxing isnt what it used to be, its still a huge draw if the fighters are right.

I love MMA and i love Boxing, but ill take a good boxing match over a good MMA fight anyday. Tell me there is anything that was as good as the Mickey Ward/Aturo Gotti fights in MMA. I been watching pretty much since Day one of the UFC and i havent seen it. I seen some good matches, but nothing that even comes close to a good boxing match.

doesnt get much better then that right there.

I disagree. Boxing was run for years and years by pure scum. They fixed fights and created multiple belts. They rigged the rankings and had fighters duck contenders to protect padded records. That and everyone always wondered after a bout what would happen if these two guys went for it outside of the ring. For years the heavyweight champion was touted as the toughest man in the world. When anyone who knew anything about fighting knew this was very unlikely.
MMA is a much more accurate gage of which guy is the better fighter. I will concede that the promotion of the sport is showing some of the same traits boxing did. Big money just has that effect on the sports. When the object of a contest is to determine who is the best fighter MMA eliminates the what ifs~

TrickyNicky 05-05-2012 08:33 AM

I'll not spend my money on a Mayweather fight unless its against Pacquiao. That said, I think he will win.

Should watch Shogun/Rogerio, Shogun/Hendo, e Fedor/Minotauro for starters.

Not going to happen unless he feels that Canelo isn't ready. Canelo has the power, speed, and ability to knock him out, he's just a little too raw still. The only way that fight happens is if it's Floyd's next fight and he sees something that will help him win tonight.

Halfcan 05-05-2012 11:49 AM

Boxing is sooo boring compared to MMA. Hard to believe Mayfeather is getting 32 million bucks off this.

pr_capone 05-05-2012 11:55 AM

Pulling for Cotto full force tonight.

A great match ending in more Boxing BS.
One guy allowed to come off of his back twice and continue, and the other guy loses still standing on his feet.

It pains me to cheer for a Puerto Rican fighter, but I'm pulling for him too. I hope if Mayweather gets a loss, he'll quit ducking fights and try to prove his place on the all time lists.

The dude was OUT, when your head snaps back the way Castillo's did, YOUR DONE. Ref did the right thing. You dont want people seriously hurt. Its like MMA when you see some dude knocked out and his arms locked up, call the fight. Lets not forget Castillo was already rocked and wobbling.

Castillo was OUT

Differs for everyone. Personally, I think Diego/Karo, Wand/Rampage 2, Diaz/Diego are some of the three best fights I've seen ever in any combat sport.

I can understand. You should have seen my uncles house when Trinidad beat De La Hoya. Everyone went apeshit. Lots of flag waving and playing of La Borinqueña (nat. anthem). I've got my flag out.

Damn. CANELO hits hard

kstater 05-05-2012 09:02 PM

I think it's even through 6. So the judges probably have it 5-1 Mosley.

Mosley's hurt.

kstater 05-05-2012 10:01 PM

It won't happen with the judges, but I think Cotto had that one.

ArrowheadHawk 05-05-2012 10:02 PM

The announcers were saying that it was a close fight -- it wasn't. Sugar hung in there but he took a ****ing beating. His face was swollen shut by the 7th round.

Buck 05-05-2012 10:24 PM

Holy **** Cotto!

kstater 05-05-2012 10:24 PM

Wow, Cotto landing some dangerous punches.

Cotto!!!

kstater 05-05-2012 10:25 PM

Buck 05-05-2012 10:27 PM

He needs to back Mayweather into a corner. Seems like he does his best work there.

kstater 05-05-2012 10:30 PM

ArrowheadHawk 05-05-2012 10:37 PM

Cotto needs to finish him.
