I haven't seen one mention of rotten tomatoes greatest movie of all time (and not even close) and it came out in the 2010's.
I liked Drive and I liked Insterstellar and I liked John Wick (only seen the first one). That's all I can even think of from this decade that's worth mentioning. |
No particular order but if I were to rattle off 10 movies I've seen from 2010 to 2019:
Rogue One Inception Interstellar Her Bladerunner 2049 Django Unchained Edge of Tomorrow The Big Short Drive 21 Jump Street Great Gatsby |
True Grit
Sicario Kick-Ass Django Unchained Thor:Ragnarok Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians of the Galaxy 2 The Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey Logan So pretty much super hero movies and gritty action movies True Grit is up there all time with Tombstone as my 1 and 1a |
I remember watching Drive randomly and really enjoying it but can’t, for the life of me, remember shit about the plot.
Speaking of being pleasantly surprised, Nighrcrawler with Gylenhal was a similar experience. Really good movie out of nowhere. |

Sicario Honorable Mention The Witch True Grit Skyfall John Wick The Dark Knight Rises Isle of Dogs Get Out Django Unchained The Other Guys Moonrise Kingdom The Grand Budapest Hotel Cabin in the Woods Wonder Woman Baby Driver Winter’s Bone [come on guys, a decade is a long time] |

Interstellar The Big Short Mad Max Fury Road Django Unchained American Hustle Zero Dark Thirty The Mule Darkest Hour Wind River |
Damn, forgot about Cabin in the Woods. Another pleasant surprise.

The Big Short is on a lot of lists. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I’m a dork for that kind of business junk. I didn’t figure it would be so popular here.

There are some movies that are fun to watch but I didn't include because they are what some people might consider to be mindless. "Drive" was mentioned and I just looked at my IMDB score and I gave it an 8.0, I didn't include it because it was fun to watch, but as some have said, I can't remember what it was about. Another just like that was "Baby Driver" which I also gave an 8, although I think more for just the music, the soundtrack made the movie. My third guilty pleasure I didn't include was "Hardcore Henry", which I also gave an 8. That was really fun to watch, but what was it about? On my list for example, The Girl on the Train I can tell you everything that went on in that movie, I believe I've seen it 5 times, that's a memorable movie.

I love learning about movies I've never heard of. I'm gonna watch The Girl on the Train within a week.
I watched Baby Driver this past week just by accident and really thought it was pretty cool. Liked the way Jon Hamm played his character. I see some of the following great movies on lists here; -Gone Girl (WATCHED) -Hell or High Water (WATCHED) -10 Cloverfield Lane -Moneyball (WATCHED) -Wolf of Wall Street (WATCHED) -Django Unchained (WATCHED) -Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (WATCHED) -12 Years a Slave (2013) (WATCHED) -Argo (WATCHED) -American Hustle (WATCHED) -Moonrise Kingdom (WATCHED) I'm sure I'm missing many more. The Big Short is normally a movie I will find a way to watch but so far I haven't. I'm not a sci-fi fan nor do I really like things like Mad Max or other crazy movies of killing and violence. |
Quote:
And there's a reason for that. It certainly is a crazy movie with killing and violence, but the positives for it are. It's a singular vision. Every frame is the creator's creation, and it's wildly inventive. It's ALL practical effects. The sheer volume of innovation and inspiration merits respect regardless of what you think of the movie itself, or the genre in general. And despite being wild and wooly and endlessly inventive, all with practical effects and immense sets and set pieces, it still presents a coherent and moving narrative. The creator makes sure to move the camera to key in on the emotional core of what is happening at every critical moment. As a begrudging initial viewer who ended up putting it high on my list, I'd say even if the concept doesn't appeal to you, you'll end up appreciating the execution and owe it to yourself to experience it at least once. |
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anyone list Captain America: Winter Soldier.
|
Inception
Captain America: Winter Soldier Mad Max: Fury Road Edge of Tomorrow Inside Out Life of Pi Skyfall Logan Fast Five John Wick Warrior and Wonder Woman are up there too. |
Empire Strikes Back
Beverly Hills Cop A Clockwork Orange Gone With the Wind Top Gun Return of the King Marley and Me The Land Before Time The Matrix Austin Powers |
There's just too damn many movies to even remember them all.

I mean, I don't think anyone sentient in 2019 needs to be sold or dissuaded from a viewing of The Dark Knight Rises, but for instance, I'd be interested to hear more about Bucky Larson. . . . err. . . . |

Surprised that I haven't seen Whiplash in more lists- any one care to comment?
|
Fff**** forgot about Whiplash. And The Other Guys, too.
Damn. I want to say both supplant Gatsby but I'm such a Baz fanboi that I dunno if I can give it the push. Also John Wick deserves recognition for obvious reasons. Hm.. WRT to Shoes' comment, this is a bit long but this guy does a great job breaking down the movie from the standpoint of its backdrop: jazz school
Spoiler!

I'm sure it's well made, but I was in jazz band and it was nothing like FMJ. And I just don't have an appetite for another narrative about learning through applied trauma. |

I haven't seen everything out there, so I'm sure there there are plenty of movies that should be here that I missed. I still need to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
These are in no order other than Blade Runner 2049 which has become one of my favorite films ever. Blade Runner 2049 Mad Max Fury Road Avengers Infinity War Logan Guardians of the Galaxy Skyfall Gravity Arrival Dunkirk Moonrise Kingdom Baby Driver Hell or High Water |

I loved this movie and one of Wes Anderson's best works. Highly underrated and a fantastic cast. :thumb: |
kc rush was also the first to list Arrival. I saw that in the theater and recorded on HBO and watched it a couple of more times. That's a really deep movie and Amy Adams is very easy on the eyes. I really liked that the aliens were not some creature, but really something with many levels. That movie I don't believe a lot of people will get it the first time, that Amy could see into the future and that's why she was chosen.

I’m inclined to add the first Star Trek reboot, that was good solid popcorn fare with heart

Good topic, but I need a list of movies released in the 2010s. I don't watch many movies, and I usually don't see them in their first run, so I never know when they came out.

Dallas Buyer's Club! Another great one. Not one I'd want to watch often (if ever again) though, like 12 Years a Slave.
Matthew Mchowever you spell it is ****ing awesome these days. One of my fave actors. |
I like a lot of the movies mentioned.. thought of one just because I’m a Rocky nut... Creed..

It’s very good, although I think the people calling it “one of the best movies of the decade” are wildly overrating it. It’s very solid though. |
