He Man was a cheesy kid's show and I think the voice they used fit the tone of the show. He was voiced by the guy who played the Mayor on Mama's Family by the way. He was on Star Trek a time or two as well.

Right, I get it. I mean, they're using a husky voiced female for they're hype song. It is what it is.

The biggest problem with most kids shows from that era is that they basically had to be suitable for 3 year olds. I remember watching an interview with one of the writers of Super Friends talking about how hamstrung they were by the BSP. No violence. Even hints of danger were sometimes too much for the censors.


Shit, it wasn't just kids shows either. Compare tv shows from the 50s to the 70s. You went from Gunsmoke to the Waltons and from Mike Hammer to Macmillan and Wife.


P.S. I seem to remember the bad guy from Dungeons and Dragons having a scary voice. Galtar featured Brock Peters as the voice of the main villain. Kind of shoots a hole in my theory, but on the other hand neither of those shows were as successful as He Man either.

The audience reviews I've read seem to agree the animation and voice acting is good to great, the story is meh to okay, and the negative seems to be a bait and switch from the promotion.

I'll likely still watch but adjust my expectations knowing what we now know.

There are others that seem to be burned by what Kevin Smith said. Gotta think we get heman front and center soon with other characters involved. That said I think it's gonna be some time before part 2 is out. Maybe you can give it a shot then. I am still excited to see how the season finishes.

Falsely advertising He Man as the main protagonist, just to get me to watch The Teela show, because you arent creative enough to market a Teela mained story on its own merit is horseshit that I willl not be supporting by giving views and helping bullshit like that work.

Maybe I should pitch a reboot of Rocky, but the story will turn out to be about Adrian running her own restaraunt and the trials and tribulations that come with being the wife of a prize fighter. Couple quick cameos of Rocky, then back to the Adrian show.

They would devour that bullshit and beg for more.

OK, so I was a little reluctant after some of the info. But I'm 3 episodes in, and it's nothing at all like I feared it would be. Definitely not the switcharoo girl power vibe that I was expecting from the early reviews. It's actually been really enjoyable thus far. You should give it a chance. I am.

Actually a surprisingly more adult vibe than I expected. The bad guys are showing some creatively mean traits that make the 80s cartoons seem like vacation bible school stories. They're already twisting things up in pretty interesting ways. I'm probably gonna binge the rest tonight...

I just rewatched the trailer. I’m pretty sure it’s entitled “masters of the universe”. So I guess it’s not supposed to center around he-man. So not quite the bait and switch, or maybe it is. Sorry if a repost. I’ll rewatch it tonight and maybe see all the episodes awake. Don’t hold me to it.

Its a given that anyone that liked the original MoTU, had the toys, etc...Its He Man.

So for people having no idea what MoTU is, sure.

But Kevin Smith damn well knew his target audience was fans of the original, and instead of delivering the goods, he laid a turd and mained his story with a reknowned sidekick character instead.

Hopefully the 2nd half we see more prince adam and heman. I assume so...

Also hopefully a 2nd season where it is centered around heman and hos friends

Talked with my brother about this show. He got all my toys handed down and was pumped for it. If hes right, and this actually got said in the show, never has a more magnificent self troll/point proving line ever happened.

So he tells me that Skeletor says call your champion, right. Then Teela shows up, gets promptly put on her ass, and then the chefs kiss is delivered.

Lmmfgdao if thats true, because they went with his cheerleader as the main AFTER ACKNOWLEDGING WITH THAT LINE THAT THEY KNOW TEELA WASNT SHIT.

As a kid and an adult I never referred to the cartoon or the 1987 movie as Masters of the Universe it was always He-Man

I won't be able to convince anyone to watch it that's upset but I'd atleast see what's said when the season is complete. Thing is I don't know when the second half starts...

I feel like this will be all about him the 2nd half. I'd love to see more esp with the animation and casting.

I really liked seeing the secondary characters getting shown,such as Whiplash,Webstor,Stinkor,Mer-Man,Moss-Man,Tri-Klops etc. Not to mention some of the stars that did their voices.Sorry,if that needed a spoiler tag.

The superhero alter ego is the draw, the reason we watch, and if you don't ****ing have it, you ****ed it up.

I watched Masters of the Universe to see He Man doing He Man shit and beating the shit out of Skeletor and his henchmen.

Its not a hard ****ing concept, and somehow it flew straight over his head.

This was a golden opportunity for Smith to showcase his writing chops and make the nearly invincible superhero beating the shit out of the bad guys have some actual depth.

Instead, he completely ****ing removed the challenge of doing that, and went with the weaker, more vulnerable Teela instead. A massive copout. Then if you call it out, youre not a fan and never understood the show?

I listened to this, the Fatman Beyond podcast is actually the only Kevin Smith-related thing I follow. He let quite a few spoilers slip for episodes 6-10, mainly trying to answer all the criticism of the first half of the show.
