CD Project Red is the new BioWare to me.
BioWare set a new bar in narrative SP experience with KOTOR and then raised it with Mass Effect 1. CD Project Red set a new bar in open world SP narrative with Witcher 3 and is about to raise it with this masterpiece. I can't ****ing wait. |
Way too pretty for me. I love the overcast rainy dirty cyberpunk full of rampant ecological disasters, nations giving way to enormous multinationals, grime, etc. Its just one trailer, and its CD Projekt Red so I'll give it a chance, but it doesn't appear to be what I was hoping for so far. ****ing palm trees? Come on now.
William Gibson (the father of cyberpunk) summed my feelings up pretty well: "The trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 strikes me as GTA skinned-over with a generic 80s retro-future, but hey that's just me." https://www.pcgamer.com/william-gibs...erpunk-enough/ |
The gritty and grimy everything is grey and washed out cyberpunk aesthetic has been done to death.

I'm interested enough to see where they go with this. I'm intrigued by the non-stereotypical cyberpunk environment.
|
Has a bit of a Dredd feel to it. Interested.
|
Holy ****, man.
This looks like a cross between Deus Ex, Fallout and GTA. IN. |
I was familiar with the tabletop RPG this game is based on, and it's been on my radar since they announced it like 5 years ago. Kinda disappointed they still haven't said anything about a release date. Looks cool though. As far as looking too pretty .... why wouldn't there be palm trees? There hasn't been a nuke go off or anything. It's just a corporation controlled government with a large gap between the haves and the have nots. Which probably means lax environmental regulations with pollution getting out of hand, but it also means big leaps in innovation without a bunch of regulation. It's not the damn apocalypse. The game is a little more colorful than I would have maybe guessed, but the real world has color, and it's got a cool vibe.
|
I think one of the main reasons a few people are wierded out by the look of the game is they are showing it in daylight. Cyberpunk in books has had daytime, but in visual imagery, it is almost exclusively shown at night.
I was reading Cyberpunk back when it first started in the 80's, and Gibson is more or less the father of the genre, but frankly I liked some other authors better. But he does have a somewhat of a point about it giving off a GTA vibe. Mike Pondsmith is obviously on board with it, and I think it works. I'm looking forward to this game more than anything else I've seen. Just take my money and let me play it. |

With that said, i'd love a GTA skinned-over with a generic 80's retro-future. |

I'm excited it will be first-person, too. |
I can see how the source material may be important to certain folks, but personally, I am not familiar with it. Therefore, it's not a concern for me at all. Like AT ALL.
People who got to see and experience it behind closed doors, however, are shitting their pants. :) https://www.techspot.com/news/75058-...llrunning.html |

Yet everybody has cybernetic implants, laser guns, robot spiders, and holographic pool tables... :D |

Hell, look at the phones and TVs people below the poverty line have today. |

The movie plays out the way a good game should. Very little of the plot would need to be changed to make it work... |

I get motion sickness while playing first-person shooters.
...but I'll be goddamned if I'm going to let this gem get past me. I'll play this beauty with a puke bucket next to me. CD Projekt Red is A+ super awesome fun-time and I love Cyberpunk environments (Deus Ex, Blade Runner...etc.). This is an absolute must-buy on Day One and the only other game I'm looking forward to purchasing (the other is Mega Man 11). |
Animations are crazy cool...

Is this just PC?

I'm a huge CD Projekt Red fanboy and have been waiting for this game ever since I heard about it. The Witcher series are some of my favorite.
Having said all that, does anyone else feel like maybe the shooting and the animation feel... somehow... unsatisfying? Like there's not enough crunch or "oomph" to it. It's all kind of floaty and flimsy? I don't need the crispiness and heft of something like MGS 5 or Doom but maybe somewhere in the middle? I may be crazy. This gameplay trailer is somehow falling flat for me. :( |

Very cool. I had no idea that Reeves was involved in this.
|
So it looks like I'll be buying two games, this and Fallen Order.
And I know I sound like an old fart for saying this, but the animation and graphics on these games are insane now. That LOOKS like Keanu. I remember when Sonic on the original Sega looked like cutting edge graphics, lol. :skip: |

Cyberpunk 2077's character creation options won't be limited by gender
CD Projekt Red has given more details about Cyberpunk 2077's character creator and the game's depiction of transgender characters. This follows criticism over an in-game advert that uses a sexualised trans model to sell a drink with the slogan "Mix it up". It's the only depiction of trans characters we've seen so far, so it raised some red flags. The ad's artist has defended it by saying it's an example of the sort of exploitation that's normal in Cyberpunk's world and exactly the sort of thing you're fighting against. It's context that would have been handy when CD Projekt Red first put it on display. We've not seen much of the character creator, but apparently it will eventually give players more options to make a version of V that's more representative of themselves. "It's a very sensitive and important subject I believe," quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz told Gamasutra. "We have put a lot of thought into this. One of the things we want to do in the final game (which we couldn't show in the demo yet, because as you mentioned it's a work in progress) is to give the players as many options of customization in the beginning of the game as we can." This is something that CD Projekt Red "wants to do" rather than something that's currently implemented. An example of the options it wants to offer player is that they can sculpt V's face with physical traits that could be assigned to to any gender. "The idea is to mix all of those up, to give them to the players, as they would like to build it," said Tomaszkiewicz "Same goes for the voice. We wanted to separate this out, so the players can choose it freely. This is something we are still working on, it's not as easy as it sounds." CD Projekt Red is also "paying a lot of attention" to how it portrays trans characters beyond customisation options for V. "We do not want anyone to feel like we are neglecting this," said Tomaszkiewicz, "or treating it wrongly." https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-20...ted-by-gender/ |
Pretty sure this is the first CDProject Red game I'll play since Witcher 2. Just looks amazing, like a game-changer.

WTF? |
I didn't like Witcher 2 at all, even though I played the first more than once. To the point that I could not make it out of the intro. So I never played 3, and don't ever intend to. Cyberpunk being from the makers of that series was not a point in its favor to me.
This looks awesome though. And I'm definitely ready for a deep, non-fantasy RPG. |

I cannot recommend Witcher 3 highly enough. Forget the second one. You're doing a disservice to yourself by not playing it. I built a brand new computer to specifically play Fallout 4, and ended up not starting it for a couple of weeks because I was too busy playing Witcher 3. |
I think this game won't be as good as people think. I think they don't do as well without source material.

RE3, FF7, and this were all coming out within weeks of each other

My guess is that FF7 publishers had some inside word that 2077 was going to delay and the window it left was good timing for their own game's delay.

Thought for sure somebody would have posted some of the media from a couple days ago...

Great reviews across the board with consistent minor issues with time to fix. I'm gettin it.
|
Those graphics, though. Damn.
Looks like eDave and I will be camping out at Best Buy for this one. |

Yeah. This is going to be Pat Mahomes of games.
|
I'm really hoping part of the narrative is you get stranded in the desert without a set of wheels.
I want to have to WALK back to Night City. Through RIVERS of blood. |
It's a definite download.

GOTY

There's some gameplay of it on twitch. Gotta watch who you watch it around though. I opened it around some kids not knowing what it was about. Within 30 seconds the character was carrying a very graphic naked chick. Whoops!
|
They stated recently they will be adding multiplayer, really hope it's some badass coop campaign stuff and not some BR shit.
