Who's already geeked for the possible three-peat?

Usually I like to watch a couple days of highlights after our Super Bowl wins (talk about words I never thought my fingers would type! :)) and then focus on free agency and the draft. I like to decompress a bit from thinking about what next season will bring.

Not this time though. We have a chance to do something no other NFL team has ever done, and I can't wait. Packers didn't do it, Steelers didn't do it, Niners didn't do it, Patriots didn't do it. Nobody has done it. Ever. We would be the first team to win 3 straight SBs, and I couldn't be more stoked about it. Next season can't get here soon enough!

Mephistopheles Janx 02-12-2024 12:27 PM

No one here is excited for that. We have won too much recently and its time that we show some grace and allow someone else to...

THE **** YOU THINK DUDE?!?!?!

Who knows? Maybe we do win 5 straight. This was supposed to be the "off year". Youngest defense in the league, should be way better at skill positions around Patrick next year. Why stop at 5? Let's go for a baker's dozen.

RaidersOftheCellar 02-12-2024 12:32 PM

The only thing left for Mahomes/Reid to accomplish is a truly dominant season. One of those teams that loses 1-2 games and cruises through the playoffs. Not easy to do in the salary cap era, but I think they'll have a good shot to field that sort of roster with the right moves in the offseason.

That's usually the way I am too, but this is different. I'm already freaking jonesing for next season because of the potential to do something completely historic. Wasn't even on my mind until I heard some of the team and coaches mentioning it. Now I can't stop thinking about it.

comochiefsfan 02-12-2024 03:07 PM

They’re going to do it too.

It’s absolutely unreal the mental resolve these guys have.

If they really want something they just go and get it done.

Kelce, Pat and Andy are going to desperately want that feather in their legacy cap.

We talk about motivation being hard for these guys sometimes. They have a chance to go and do something that no one has done in the history of the NFL.

This is going to be a locked in ****ing group next season.

We are STILL the defending world Champions, and the target on our backs is going to be huge. The Chiefs have to get better to do it. If you aren’t getting better, then you are getting worse.

ReynardMuldrake 02-12-2024 03:32 PM

Statistically unlikely, but just having something that's never been done as a realistic goal is incredible. I didn't honestly think they'd win it all this season but these guys just don't lose in the playoffs.

Reid + Spagnuolo + Mahomes is a lethal combo.

Do it. It'd be pretty cool.

Direckshun 02-12-2024 03:39 PM

I assume Veach is going to make good acquisitions to build up that offensive weapons room.

But the biggest obstacle for the Chiefs, I think, is going to be how they go about replacing Chris Jones? I still think it's far more possible than not that he walks. And if he does, how on earth do you replace him? What does the defense even look like? Does it need to change?

If they can figure that out while they stock Mahomes up with weapons, the next Super Bowl is ours to lose.

But... time will tell.

Makes perfect sense to me, but the reality is it hasn't really shook out like that for us... seems like most guys are more about maximum money

Looked it up the other day and noticed no team has made it back to the Super Bowl a 3rd time after repeating, and was curious what other teams have done and why.

Didn't dig too much into the why.... in a few cases, it was obvious from a coach or QB retiring or injured players. And sometimes football is hard.... several of these teams (not the Broncos, lol) were still very good.

Packers, '68, 6-7-1, didn't make playoffs, Vince Lombardi retired

Dolphins, '74, 11-3, lost divisional round @Raiders 28-26, 'Sea of Hands'

Steelers, '76, 10-4, lost AFCCG @Raiders 24-7, Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier both injured

Steelers, '80, 9-7, didn't make playoffs, aging team (many players retired after this season)

49ers, '90, 14-2, lost NFCCG vs Giants 15-13

Cowboys, '94, 12-4, lost NFCCG @49ers 38-28

Broncos, '99, 6-10, ****ing sucked, horseface retired

Patriots, '05, 10-6, lost divisional @Broncos 27-13

I'm just trying to soak in every possible Mahomes moment I get.

If we don't make it next year, I'm not going to eschew the year, because I got more Mahomes. I'm going to soak up every snap. Because they're special. It's never going to be this good again.

The reality is that it is really ****ing hard to win. REALLY ****ing hard. So if we don't make it, it won't be a failure. It won't be awesome, but I'm still here for all of it.

Couch-Potato 02-12-2024 05:08 PM

literally.

CoMoChief 02-12-2024 05:10 PM

Yesterday's game was the first time I wasn't nervous about a Chiefs SB.

Wanted us to win yes...but wasn't gonna freak out if we lost. Chiefs have experienced A LOT of winning in the last handful of years so that's obvs probably the reason.

Just living the moment. Cherish these times. For the longest time I thought Chiefs were snakebitten and wondered if the Chiefs would ever win a SB in my lifetime, esp after the Royals won b2b penants and then a WS 2nd go around.

Mahomes won't be around forever. A true test will be how well he plays once Reid and Kelce retire and a new regime comes in.

If not for a atrocious 2nd half AFCCG vs CIN and Dee Ford we're looking at 6 straight SB appearances. Insane.

Wont last for long enjoy it while you can.

That's how I usually am. But not now. Not when we have the chance to do something that quantifiably sets us above every team in the league since the Super Bowl era started. I wish next season would start the Monday after the draft ends.

I can feel the three-peat all the way down in my plums. They're getting all swolen, with a light red hue. Fresh and juicy, ready for the picking.

Here's my view - now we're just pouring on. The game that we just won cements a true "dynasty". If we had lost last night, I never would have claimed it was a dynasty. But we didn't.

And now? It's just a matter of how much the Chiefs pour it on. Threepeat and you're the best team ever. I'll be fine if you don't. You've already defined a generation of football that will be talked about 40 years from now. But if you do? You'll be the best ever. That's what's on the table.

There is no team that can stop us from doing it if we play our cards right.

Just comes down to adding real weapons to the offense and then on defense seeing what we do with Chris Jones and Sneed.

No.

That said I've been on the 3Peat train since we won the SB in 22. The young depth on D was there. Coaching staff and QB were there. The foundation is young and locked in - all we need is a tweak here or there at tackle or WR. We stay healthy and this shit is locked in.

It's inevitable...

This. I can't see a team in the league that with 2:00 left in the 4th quarter is stopping Mahomes. The teams that might have the D to slow him don't have the QB to hang...

And the weird thing is that if he was chasing Patrick Mahomes II, Patrick's speed would have been 19.71 mph.

This is why the people in this forum who constantly bitch about moves Veach makes (we all know who they are) are so mind-boggling to me. This run is soooooooo much more than I ever expected to see in my lifetime. If as a Chiefs fan you can't just sit back and enjoy what you're seeing and trust the organization - you have failed the game of life.

If when we three-peat, we'll be known as the greatest team in NFL history until someone equals and/or surpasses a 3-peat. If someone would've told me ten years ago that I'd type that sentence unironically, I'd have called a mental institution to come put them in a padded cell.

for real, it's hard not to trust Veach after the 3 Superbowls in 5 years thing. Well 3 wins in 5 years, we went to 4. First team winning just back to back in almost 20 years. Oh we didn't keep Sneed! Well our former GM's woulda not tagged him and let him walk for absolutely nothing!

Would you rather:

1. Three-peat; or
2. Win two superbowls in the next five years.

Is the uniqueness of the three-peat more important than getting the frachise to six superbowl championships?

I think I would pick option #2 (assuming winning more than 2 in 5 years is not on the table). While we all know Patrick is already the best quarterback to ever do it, getting to Brady would force even the biggest critic to acknowledge his goatness. But it's a damn tough choice if forced to make it. What a time to be alive!

I think either one of them continues to build the "greatest dynasty ever" case of evidence.

I fully expect both to happen, but I guess I'd rather win two Super Bowls than one when it comes down to it.

3 peat because it's never been done before and I like seeing my favorite team do things that never has been done before. But I know we don't have to settle and it will be entirely possible to win more after that.

I enjoy watching my Chiefs play football, but not gonna lie, the 17 game regular season is gonna be a bit of a slog to get through this season.

Just win the AFC West, get to the playoffs and let the real games begin.

I was told we have a "clearly aging Kelce."

well that is true. He was 24 as a rookie and now he's 34. 10 years of aging so far

Four.

We're winning FOUR in a row...

It's got to end sometime, for the love of God. I've been wearing the same tighty whities since the start of the regular season last season.

Every game. Same unwashed briefs. I love me some good superstition but we're getting to the point that some country singer is going to come around and sing the "Ragged Old Flag" song about my underwear.
