I remember when he got a job at Mizzou by nepotism. |

And he was a recruiting coordinator at Wyoming. Not exactly a guy that's going to have ties through the south. Would he have been hired at Mizzou but/for being Pinkel's nephew? C'mon - be honest here. You know he wouldn't have. And while he may well have strong coaching chops, we needed someone that could help us transition into the SEC and build a recruiting pipeline - Grinch wasn't that. And he was largely an ineffective recruiter here. Which is why our defensive backfield was looking pretty damn ragged in the years immediately after he left. When you do this 'Mizzoufan' shit you're so fond of, you generally paint with way too broad a brush and simply ignore the real frustrations of the folks you're looking to castigate. |

I will fully admit to being wrong about Grinch. However, if you viewed it from the (admittedly limited) POV of a fan, it had all the markings of a poor choice: a guy with little coaching experience in a bungfukt region of the country who is hired by his uncle right as the team is moving into recruiting waters he's never swam in before.
Most of the time you'll win by betting on it being a Kurt Schottenheimer hire. Sometimes a person who isn't qualified to get a job does a great job at it, but surely one could understand the raised eyebrows over the hire, especially when nepotism is involved. |

Grinch passed that test, as did Odom. Both guys would have eventually been considered for a similar job at a similar level. Kim Anderson did not. But it's also strange to say that Grinch suited our needs at the time or even that he was an unqualified success here. He was a good coach but at a relatively non-critical role and frankly we'd have been better served getting a genuinely good recruiter in that spot or someone that could've helped us create SEC ties. Grinch did none of those things and then he left after what, 3 years? Man, what an impact. So alright - he's getting a good job. And Eberflus is rumored to be a favorite for the Dallas DC job (and some say he'll get NFL HC interviews). Does that mean he did well here? No, no it does not. What someone does after they leave doesn't mean a whole lot for what they did here. Grinch was fine. I don't think that dispels the concerns people had over him. |
So are we just gonna skip having an O-Coordinator or what

Don't get the impression he's a candidate at all. If it ends up being Finley, something went off the rails. |
I thought this was gonna be finalized right after the Texas Bowl, so pretty concerning it's still open with no updates.

I thought he was locked in on Fisch. He's casting a wider net than that now. |
