We're going to get a much better idea of the impressive guys in the preseason games compared to camp reports and Arrowhead Pride video.

Then again... so many of us were fooled by Fred Williams a couple years ago. A WR who makes tough catches in preseason games and the practices like Marcus Kemp and Jehu Chesson could be that good... or they could be worthless.

Rapoport just tweeted that Watkins hip is precautionary.

People still haven’t realized just how cautious Reid is being.

I'm guessing you overlooked the most important part of my comment which was "trade his ass"

To get an extension is going to require a substantial signing bonus. If you trade him, that signing bonus accelerates onto the cap.

The alternative is to offer him a contract with significant guaranteed salaries that would then move over with the trade but if you do that, nobody's going to want to take on his deal given the salary constraints they are then stuck with.

There's a reason you don't see sign and trade kind of maneuvers in the NFL - they simply don't work from a dollars and cents standpoint.

Yup.

Next year they get a substantially similar roster with growth from Mahomes, Hill and ideally some additional development along the OL and the young LBs/DLs.

With that they get a 1st rounder they didn't have this year as well as an additional 2nd rounder from the Peters trade. Their draft capital is light years stronger next season and good enough that it could actually be used to immediately help the squad.

This is a year where you hope they make the playoffs but if they don't it doesn't matter a great deal - 2019 and 2020 are their target years.

The way I see it, they either make the playoffs and at least have a shot, or they miss and it just makes it that much easier to get impact guys with all of those early picks and a solid draft position.

Barring injuries that carry over to 2019, this season is a win/win.

Hard seeing the Chiefs lose the division this year. Andy outcoached the hell out of Anthony Lynn and Vance Joseph. All 4 of those games were games the Chiefs pulled away from far before the end.

Now the Chargers lose Hunter Henry, which is an enormous blow to that team.

The Broncos are the only team I can see taking it from us and that is bc their schedule looks extremely easy compared to ours.

Four picks in the top 100 next year, and we're going to let Ford walk in addition to rolling over some space from this year. That gives us room for one decent starter somewhere or perhaps two role player depth pieces.

The following current starters have contracts that expire at the end of the season:

Allen Bailey
Cameron Erving
David Amerson
Dee Ford
Anthony Sherman
Mitch Morse
Steven Nelson

That's not really anything we can't make do with. Those players who are true assets to the team may find big money contracts, but we can easily find a way to tread water until long-term solutions are found. We certainly won't have to spend all of our assets (draft and free agency) to replace or fill those holes. We might even be able to improve the overall talent level of those spots for less money.

We should be in an okay position to even add a decent player via free agency. Maybe nothing ground breaking like Watkins or Hitchens, but a decent acquisition nonetheless.

Kiimo 08-06-2018 01:50 PM

I hope they spend their high picks on people who can rush the passer, as opposed to defensive backs.

I only say this thinking the new dumbass rules are going to turn the NFL into the Big 12 and really the best defense is going to be sacks. Don't draft a corner. Draft a sacker. Several of them, hopefully.
