BTW: After hitting his second home run, why is Mookie Betts not getting drilled in his third AB? I hate how soft our pitchers are.

Hit with the Tee?

Hell, he'd prolly go yard with a missed "drill" from out guys!

Maybe a better statement would be for a royals pitcher to actually, you know, get him out? :hmmm:

siberian khatru 05-03-2018 08:06 AM

Alex Gordon is now up to .274, which is the highest his BA has been since he was hitting .275 on Sept. 19, 2015.

He is finally willing to hit pitches to the left side.

Drilled for what? I don't think being soft is their issue, it's the talent level. Duffy is talented when he's healthy, but I don't think he's pitching with an elbow at 100%.

I don't understand this thinking. Was he showing up Duffy in any way or mouthing off as he rounded the bases?

Add this to another "unwritten" rule of the game. 1 HR is ok. 2 HR's means the batter should get drilled his next time up.

Noted

Titty Meat 05-03-2018 11:24 AM

Soren Petro had some dude on from 538 talking about taking. Teams that lost 90+ had about the same amount of wins 5 years down the road as teams who were middle of the road. Pretty interesting stuff.

I don't like that line of thinking. That is chicken shit if you ask me. You bean someone because he's being an asshole, not because he's good.

Exactly. Don't get mad because he bested you. Now if he shows you up after besting you, then get mad.

Salvy with the 2 run bomb...4-2 good guys.

siberian khatru 05-03-2018 01:27 PM

Skoglund has been let down by his OF defense today

PHOG 05-03-2018 01:33 PM

Now that was a Gordon BOMB!! 5-3

ChiefsCountry 05-03-2018 01:34 PM

Gordodong!

siberian khatru 05-03-2018 01:40 PM

Could Gordon actually be "fixed"?

siberian khatru 05-03-2018 01:41 PM

And we just keep giving runs back

siberian khatru 05-03-2018 01:48 PM

ChiefsCountry 05-03-2018 01:57 PM

Soler power!

Bufkin 05-03-2018 02:04 PM

Gordon can hit again. Salvy looks better than ever. Soler is hitting like a definite all-star.

This is nice.

Chiefspants 05-03-2018 02:28 PM

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Royal hitter receive this type of fear from opposing pitchers. Dayton Moore may need to involve Wade Davis in trades more often.

jimidollar 05-03-2018 02:52 PM

Gordon with three hits? What year is this?

Dartgod 05-03-2018 02:56 PM

gblowfish 05-03-2018 03:36 PM

Royals win. Gordon is hitting a little, that's good. Our starting pitching has been OK, although the only starter with a winning record is Junis. Hammel and Duffy are both still winless.

PHOG 05-03-2018 03:36 PM

Junis has pitched well enough to win a couple of games. Duffy has been rancid

This is the player we hoped they were adding last season.

The patience and power are a great combination, and the weight he lost has helped with his flexibility and reach. He’s getting that little extra extension he needs to get out in front of balls on the outer half and make hard, lofted contact to LF.

Deberg_1990 05-03-2018 07:25 PM

Not a playoff team, but it’s nice to see them at least competing every day. Salvys dust up against the shit Sox seems to have given them a spark.

Salvy got a lot of criticism league wide for that.

But those young guys saw a World Series MVP protect them. May have done something in the locker room.

Feel bad for the guy. Loves being a royal, wants to be here, but inconsistent and definitely not an ace. More like a #3... hopefully he can turn it around and put up a 4 era and be trade bait since he isn't that young anymore.

Salvys a prideful guy and he had probably had it with seeing the White Sox walk all over us. The guy running his mouth after the home run was likely the last straw. You gotta love him for it.

siberian khatru 05-04-2018 06:42 AM

Happy Star Wars Day! Celebrate by knowing that Brandon Maurer is no longer on the 40-man roster; he was outrighted to Omaha yesterday (meaning he passed through waivers and, shockingly, nobody claimed him).

Maurer in AAA: 8 IP, 13 H, 12 ER, 7 BB, 11 K, 13.50 ERA

duncan_idaho 05-04-2018 06:52 AM

I wish someone would have claimed Maurer. Man, he stinks.

The really good news is that Lee, Matias, and Pratto and Melendez are all playing well.

Gigliotti tore his ACL, so that’s less-good news.

I’m excited to see what they do in the draft. Add a few high upside arms and/or a dynamic center fielder, and it could get really interesting in a few years with the home-grown talent.

Healthy Duffy is a good 2/3 starter. I don’t believe he’s fully healthy.

If they need to shelve him to get healthy, they should shelve him.

Nothing, just wondering. I suspect it's because, when you're a super star, working through these sorts of periods must be difficult. And even more difficult when you're with a team that has a history of not throwing massive cash to bring about positive change more quickly.

I just think he has options, and I'm wondering if he's wondering if he should consider them.

That's amazing. It's also why you can never take success for granted. After 2015 everyone assumed the Mets had built a great rotation like the 90's Braves and would be competing for titles for the next decade. Haven't even come close.

They had a hot start this season, but Degrom just went down with elbow issues and is going to try to "pitch through it". The Mets have had Harvey, Degrom, Noah, and Matz try to pitch through injury issues over in 2016-2017 (seems like overextending them in 2015 was indeed a big risk), and it's never gone well.

Just makes 2015 all that more special.

tk13 05-04-2018 11:27 PM

The other amazing thing from tonight is that the Royals are only 7 games out of first place. Never would have guessed that. That's really not bad considering they're 10-22.

Yep. Reminds me of the warning signs we saw with Vargas and Hoch before they got significant elbow/shoulder injuries. Really wish the Royals would give him time off. We're not competing, why risk hurting someone who served as a legit staff ace at times in 2016-2017?

They're only 6 games out on May 6th. I wouldn't go put money on them, but they are totally "in the race." You could make that up easy with a two week hot streak.

They need to not make the mistake they made a few years ago. They need to decide if they're contenders or not, (they are not by the way). They need to decide now if they're going to be sellers at the deadline. If they get stuck in no mans land, they'll put off the rebuild for another few years.
