The 5 fastest pitches thrown in MLB this year were in that at bat to Herrera. Wow.

That series really made me hate Herrera. What an annoying **** in the batter's box. Ten times worse and more neurotic than Schumaker ever was.

Rooney got to the point he was timing it on the radio. Almost 30 seconds between pitches for that rat bastard.

although I’m inclined to agree with risking the health of one of your cornerstones of the pitching staff for the next 6 years. And Matheny is a dumbass in handling pitchers.

He was cruising. No stressful innings all game. He’d pitched 113 pitches in a game in Memphis. Bullpen used up. Of all the dumbass moves by Matheny, this is down on the list.

at the end of the year those performances today by Flaherty and Hicks can win playoff games against the Nats, Cubs, Dodgers or any other team.

And now Hicks, according to the MLB app.

why can't he strike anyone out with that type of gas? Even his minor league k numbers look pedestrian.

He doesn’t seem as comfortable throwing that slider to lefties. He throws a slider outer half to Herrera and he likely screws himself in the ground. Get Molina back there and I bet the K’s will come.

Also, He was playing in "A" ball last year. Thats a helluva jump to the majors in one off season. He's just using that natural talent at this point.

Yeah, I bet he's not comfortable throwing that slider inside to the lefties. He's probably not got it in all the way and left it hittable and got burned.

You are correct about Molina. When Yadi starts to teach him how to pitch and not just throw...... he's going to be a keeper.

If I'm remembering correctly, Chapman's was a ball. Hicks 105.1 was a strike.

If you are throwing over 100, if you can get any change in velocity or movement and guys will be falling over trying to hit it. Guys can guess fastball every time right now so he is just a high powered pitching machine. If he gets some movement or a second plus pitch, watch out.

Even varying it from a 2 seam to 4 seam back and forth would throw hitters off.

It is unlikely that Hicks is gonna be a high K guy, given that he wasn't at any level. Given his control issues, I doubt that he ever amounts to much in the pen.

Carpenter is 2-3 again tonight. Getting him right has really jump started this offseason.

O'Neill is ****ing on fire. They might have to give the Leake treatment to Fowler at this point.
