This thread appears to have run out of renewable-non-greenhouse producing fuel.

The winner will be tabulated and announced in the near future.

Hog Rider 03-30-2008 08:29 AM

Hi, I'm Hog Rider -
and I'm a Lurker!

I did my first lurk in 2001, and have been lurking ever since.
I occasionally go cold turkey and start posting, but I always end up lurking again.
I know I need help, but I just enjoy the feeling a good lurk gives me. Sometimes I even lurk several times in one day. I have begun to lurk without even remebering what I have lurked upon or whom I have lurked at. It's wierd, but I don't even feel ashamed - alittle dirty, but not ashamed.

I'll be a lurker the rest of my life,

Hog Rider

Iowanian 03-30-2008 05:49 PM

the results are in for the lurker 500.

19 Lurkers participated in the making of this thread.
8 lurkers had at last 5 points, which I think is outstanding.

dtforever comes into 3rd place with a very respectable 10 points.

For your winner.......We have a Draw....a tie.
huskerdooz and Chief wiggum have both completed the ballot count with 14 points each.

We can either declare duel winners, and I'll make the donation in the name of both-or all lurkers participating.....or we can have a Sudden Victory round, which will require thought, research and Details of a multiple answered question.

Congratulations.....Welcome from the shadows, and thank you to all participants, and even those lurkers who considered posting. come on in, the water's fine.

Here's 1 more possible tiebreaker

I believe that ChiTown was the planeteer in question, but for the life of me I can't find the specific thread. I have only been able to find this thread that references the thread in question.

Best wishes in your new endeavor. You're good people, and the planet will have a void. Get yourself settled and back to slacker status and don't be a stranger. We'll miss your off season office window beaver hunt in the convertible.

If you get too much money, I'd be happy to keep some of it in one of my accounts.

Whaaaaaay can't aaah quit you?

Iowanian 03-30-2008 08:40 PM

Thats not the thread, and I think at this point it would be unfair to give a point even if it were what I was looking for.

If its a tie-breaker.....It'll be a new and likely complex question both will be asked to answer with the best answer winning.

As it is, the thread seems to have essentially run its course, and a draw isn't a terrible option unless you two just need to know.

Either way is fine by me

Agreed. We should have a third "sudden victory" round.

Oh hell, I didn't expect to get any agreement.

I was being contrary.

Or should I just say, I was just being me?

Iowanian 03-31-2008 10:55 AM

Fine.

There will be a new "sudden Victory" round between the two tied opponents.

I will consult with counsel and will be post the final death-match question for BOTH to answer.

Chief Wiggum 04-03-2008 10:57 AM

I'm sorry, I have been traveling for the past couple of weeks and haven't made it past the front page of CP since. Traveling on business next week too, but I'm fine with whatever outcome you come up with. I'll subscribe to this thread so I'll know if the tie-breaker question is posted.

Props to huskerdooz - made a serious run late in the thread.

Iowanian 04-10-2008 10:04 PM

The final question has been determined.

There is no specific answer but I will present the question, and the answer I deem most prudent will be the winner.

Which thread best defines what Chiefsplanet is about?
Explain your arguement, and provide a sampling of quotes.

Chief Wiggum 04-13-2008 04:38 PM

This is quite the thought-provoking question... Because I have only been a lurker for a year and a half (there-abouts) I haven't been around for so much of the planet's history and haven't read nearly as many threads as I think one needs to in order to answer this question completely. That being said, I sought out for the perfect thread to the best of my ability: one whose posts contain a rant by Bob Dole, an amusing post by skinbra berating Iowinian (no offense man, but he was funny), random ramblings by FAX regarding macadamia pastries or something, and a post by Mecca (so we could all check out the hot women he has in his sig). Posts by Chrstie Tynes and/or her mom as well as references to anti-freeze or funny pics of people passed out from drinking would all be bonuses. In addition, incorporation of ninjas and some reference to Carl's mullet in the 80s would have put said thread over the top.

Alas, the search engine seems to be down right now and I don't think a thread of that awesomeitude exists anywhere....ever (possibly until now - Ultra Peanut I'm looking in your direction).

I settled on the following thread located in the HOC, titled, "Guess what? Gretz call us classless and deranged": http://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=80624

IMO, this thread embodies not only what CP is about, but also shows the character, knowledge, wit, and humor of the posters that comprise CP. The thread's setting is right after Greg Robinson tendered his resignation. At the time there was a web site up called firegregrobinson.com that had a petition that called for Robinson's resignation which arguably had a hand in Greg stepping down. Our pal Bobby "3-chins" G wrote an article on KCchiefs.com shortly after the announcement calling out that website that was mostly the product of CP members.

So in answer to your question, Iowinian, "Which thread best defines what CP is about" I think Rain Man said it best in this thread:

Mr. Gretz,

Please do not demean the Chiefs' fan base in your column.

While you were "covering the Pittsburgh Steelers in their glory years," we were loyal to the Chiefs. While Greg Robinson was serving the Denver Broncos and Dick Vermeil was leading the Eagles, we were loyal to the Chiefs. Through rain, snow, strikes, missed kicks, 32nd-ranked defenses, and nose tackles covering wide receivers, we have been loyal to the Chiefs.

The fan base is the ultimate dogged watchdog for the team. Without us, personal loyalties would have overridden the team's best interests, and Mr. Robinson would have returned to lead another disaster on defense. While we applaud his decorum during his resignation, that resignation was made possible only by the loyalty of the fans, and our hue and cry. I applaud the professional and polite authors of firegregrobinson.com for assisting in that process.

We were here before you, before Carl, before Dick, and before everyone but Lamar. We'll still be here when you're all long gone. You may fear us or ridicule us, but you really should respect our presence.

Bob Dole (a.k.a. Bob Damned Dole) did chime in with a classic rant, arguing for the Chiefs everyman:

Want to swap places for a year, Bobby? Bob Dole will most certainly enjoy cruising around town in your car that probably cost more than Bob Dole's house. Bob Dole has always wanted to attend the 101 Banquet--it would be really cool to do it on someone else's dime. See every Chiefs game for pay? Hell yes! Have a website where I can spout off my opinion like it means something?

Okay. Forget that last one.

Bob makes an excellent point with his last sentence: the CP is a website where opinions are heard. For instance, I came across the CP when reading an article (In California, mind you) by Whitlock mentioning the planet. I have no doubt there are others like me that have heard the reference to the planet and came to check it out. (Here's a big wink to Christie ;))

Later in the post, memyselfi - who is a Raider fan, was taking the position that there was a thread on the planet that had gone too far with some of the pictures; the thread was called "Frazod, is that what you're looking for" (will add link when search function is back up.) in which there were apparently some photoshopped pics of GRob being bombed and shot and stuff (satire). To which tk13 then makes an excellent point, which illustrates the planet's defense of it's fellow brethren:

This thread even had the clout to bring out some lurkers to voice their opinions, such as a comment by sparkky:

He hasn't had an original thought in over 10 years.

Lastly, the thread points to the real, hard-hitting issues of the day, such as Baby Lee's existential question that was causing many Chiefs fans to have sleepless nights:

Think about THAT!!!!!

In a nut shell, this thread illustrates that the members (by and large - I won't stoop to Gretz's level and assume everyone is represented by a few. Still don't know why Donk and Raider fans post here...) are loyal, thoughtful, passionate, and damn funny. This site doesn't have the fanfare and number of hits it does because the Chiefs have had an excellent chance of winning the Super Bowl over the last 30+ years. People come here for their passion of the Chiefs, they stay for the Planeteers. God knows where my life would be without some of those poop threads guiding me through tough times... With that, I appreciate the people that keep this site up and running as well as the people that keep the quality of posts high, and I thank you.

God save the Chiefs!

Seriously Huskerdooz, are we ever going to finish this thread? It's about to lose its burst...

Iowanian 07-18-2008 09:54 AM

Another thread reminded me that I had let this one fall, without following through to the end.

I'm declaring Chief_Wiggums the winner and will make the donation.

Thanks to all participating lurkers.

DaFace 07-18-2008 10:22 AM

I declare this thread an enormous winner compared to blueballs' attempt.

StcChief 07-18-2008 10:23 AM

yes. The complete CP history is really in here.

Should this thread be in the Hall of Classics?

I don't think anyone could argue this is a creme le creme example of the threads that the Planet does best. When it falls off the front page I'll move it unless there are objections.

Damn, how did I miss this thread? I just finished reading the whole thing. Thus says a lurker.

It brought back a lot of memories. Fwiw, yes to the hall, if my opinion matters.

Iwonian was the perfect moderator. Should we have a round #2 since a lot has happened after 2008?
