I snuck out of the house last night the last half hour of light to fish the pond I built and stocked last year.

I was catching bass in the 12-13" range, many of them very fat. They're not large enough to be much fun to catch yet but I did enjoy what I saw in the potential.

For only having been stocked last year, it sounds like a healthy pond, thats good growth in a year.

I put in quite a bit of structure, have been feeding the cats(and bluegill are eating that too) and have put minnows in 3-4 times.

I want them to be fat like they've been on EBT for life.

The other thing I did was make a shepherd's hook and hang a bug zapper over the water. During the cicada invasion, I caught gallons of them and threw them into the water in the evenings. I'll do everything I can think of to make the bass fat.

I'm so anxious for the first one I drag out that I can put my fist in it's mouth.

Are the bass hitting the cicadas? I was actually talking with my boss this morning about that very thing and he mentioned how he tried fishing with those last year and couldnt get a single bite.

the Cicedas have been gone for 2-3 weeks now.

They were hammering them the last week. I didn't have much time for fishing so far this year or during their prime, but I would have loved to throw a buzz bait or a popper around that timeframe.

Never knew that. I always throw them back. I might have to try it some day.

While here(San Diego )hit the Ocean Beach pier yesterday. Bonito hitting almost immediately. Using some basic lures, we hit our limit(10 fish total). Sold half and have the other half marinating now. I'm not sure if it was the unseasonably warm water or if it is normally like that, but everyone up and down the pier seemed to be hitting Bonito, Mackerel, Barracuda, and several other species. Sea Lions and Dolphins were out as well. Hit the pier at 530 and was done by 9. Great time.

Sounds like a killer day at the beach, I'd love to catch a barracuda, they look like they'd be very athletic fighters.

I was down in Mexico and saw a guy catch one from the beach. After reeling it in, one of the chefs from the resort ran over and asked if he could cook it for the guys dinner that evening. Apparently it was delish.

From ocean to plate in probably no more than 30 minutes, I bet that WAS awesome.

I'm looking to buy my first pair of waders. Any suggestions? I'll be fishing the white river tail waters.
