I bought my 92 Mercedes for $83K in 1992

You wanna talk car payments to me???

Loan Amount $83,000
Interest Rate % 9.55%
Years 4

Monthly Payment $2,087.20

Plus ultra performance car insurance costs ...

Between the two it was close to my wife's take home pay at the time.

I still have the car, not the wife

I try to keep my cars for as long as I can, then when it’s time for another, I try to keep the purchase price about 8-10% of my annual income. And if financing, only term to 36 months.

Doing so allows us to contribute a shit load each month to savings. We put an entire check from my wife’s pay into savings each month, directs deposit. Don’t even miss it

I can’t even imagine having a $500+ per month payment for likely 5+ years. Jesus Christ. I used to do that shit when I was young and has some decent money. Now, I still make decent , money but that car pay,ent is going into my account instead of a car. And I now have a good stash of money for my “oh shit” fund to draw from when shit goes wrong with the house, cars, or whatever else.

Totally agree with you Rainman. That commercial where the guy's wife prefers his truck over the Tahoe...Come on! That's $100K just for transportation. Yikes! Of course the wife is happy now. But when they can't afford her new shoes, there will be hell to pay.

She will find a real man with that truck and shaft the dude that bought it for her with the payments...

With a 9% interest rate? Nobody.

I could very easily and confidently but my wife a car because she is so specific about the brand and features that it actually makes it easy. Now it would still need to be something that she obviously needs which was the case recently. But in the end it still doesn’t really feel like a gift unless it is paid for all at once.

I am impressed with his ability to swipe images and claim them as his own.

It was 1992. That's what new car money cost back then.

stevieray 12-29-2018 04:36 PM

Depends on the car...:)

Whenever I see those commercials, I've always presumed those cars were bought with cash and it was the hoity toity crowd just flaunting their wealth.

do the metadata on these.

I don't have lots of pics of my cars. Most are on external drives and I am too lazy to go find them.

Hagarty has lots of pictures of my cars on file.

Depending on the car, I'd feel pretty dang great about it. Wife is frugal, so it would mean we just won the lotto!!

Oh well shit.

Then yeah. My wife has heard me lust after the Same handful of cars the last 18 years. So I would have confidence she would pick out a good one.

I think the teddy may look different after the ride home.
