How can you play for an eagle if you can't see anything to aim at?

tk13 08-10-2014 06:29 PM

They're going to play foursome on the last hole. Never seen that before.

Buck 08-10-2014 06:29 PM

Is that in the water?

tk13 08-10-2014 06:29 PM

What an incredible run of golf for this kid. Long way to go yet, but he's on the road to be one of the best 3 of all time.

Hootie 08-10-2014 06:52 PM

They are blowing him because golf is a dying sport and no one aged 26-35 is playing. Golf needs another Tiger in the worst way and the PGA is praying it's Rory. It's good for business.

I, however, hope golf keeps dying because I can afford it now with prices slashed everywhere but couldn't afford it 10 years ago when everyone wanted to see if they could be Tiger Woods

philfree 08-10-2014 06:52 PM

That sucked. Well except finishing in the dark like I've done many a time in my life. Fun stuff in that regard.

What does an average round cost where you live? Here in the thriving metropolis of Wichita I can golf a round for around $20-$25 if I don't rent a cart. I played a course outside of Dallas a few weeks ago that had $105 green fees. I was wondering what us the norm in other parts of the country.

Back to back majors and four of them by the age of 25. He deserves it for those accomplishments.

TribalElder 08-10-2014 07:00 PM

Why would they play 60 minutes now? Aren't all the blue hairs asleep already?

In central Illinois I play anywhere from $9-$38. The $9 is a decent 18 hole course that lets you golf as many holes with a cart after 4 PM. Needless to say, I golf there a lot.

I'm joining the country club next year, though. To be a junior member at the nicest one it's $140 a month plus you have to spend $200 quarterly on food/drink. Done.

That's cheaper than I thought it would be. Hell, $200 quarterly on food/drink is a walk in the park.

That was a rocket and one of the best shots I've ever seen. That's not luck. The drive not bouncing into the water on 18 was the lucky break.

Rory just had to get rid of the anchor. He needs to stay single until his 40's at the earliest.

It was a dead pull. Watch his reaction to the strike and the swing path. Pulls go a long way. He got an incredible break because he would have been short sided with dense rough. That was the same as the dropped fourth shot he hit into 10 on Thursday, but that one went twenty yards left of the green.

O.city 08-10-2014 08:33 PM

It was a low heel cut, from a guy who hits a high draw.

Jerm 08-10-2014 08:35 PM

Not to mention the insane amount of roll that shot got, looked like a St. Andrews shot.

No one was getting any roll at all and then that...

You are a good golf analyst but you are spectacularly wrong here and I just rewatched it - Rory knew it was nails.

O.city 08-10-2014 09:33 PM

A low cut on a soggy course like Valhalla was lucky to run as much as it did.

I'm not wrong. If he wanted to hit a runner into the green, he would have played a slinging hook out to the right. A player who hits a high draw must have an inside out swing path. A low shot that starts left and peels right must have a strike from the outside in. It's a matter of physics. He was saved by the gear effect of the club. Besides, the course was soggy enough that. Playing a bleeding low shot into a left hand pin would make no ****ing sense. It's the equivalent of trying to hit a 50 yard cut off of 13 tee at Augusta.

MahiMike 08-11-2014 07:37 AM

While that was an extremely entertaining golf tourney, I see nothing special about the golf course. Very plain for any PGA tourney, let alone a major.

philfree 08-12-2014 09:14 PM

I've been having a slight back issue so I've backed off my golf for the last two to three weeks. For better or worse I'm going back at it on Thursday or Friday. I want to take my game to a higher level but that's gonna be hard if I can't hit my position at address. Specially on wedges and awkward lies. You have to be able to "sit" and I was struggling with that.

I've been going crazy with just healing and not going to the course. From my experience in life I known I've done the right thing but I still feel like a wuss.

kstater 08-16-2014 12:47 PM

Kevin Sutherland a par on 18 away from 58 on the Senior Tour. On a par 72 track as well.

kstater 08-16-2014 12:58 PM

Chokes, settles for 59

Utter nonsense. Here's the hole map for Valhalla, #10 is middle right. As you can see its a left to right approach and there's no way to play "a slinging hook". That's spectacularly wrong and the map will educate you.

http://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/upload...nts/course.jpg

There's only one way to get there in two: hit a 300+ drive to the center or LH side. Then cut it in. Period. And that's exactly what Rory did.

Please quit showing your ignorance. Rory himself said it was a lucky shot in an interview after the round and not how he tried to play it. If you've played serious golf, you could tell when he hit it that he came right over the top and yanked it. It was what we call a "quality miss" - period. Every golfer gets lucky at times, even the pros.

O.city 09-12-2014 09:43 PM

So, I'm two weeks away from the annual guys golf weekend. Heading to Memphis this year, playing Southwind, Colonial, Mirimichi and another I'm not familiar with.

Anyone here have experience with any of said courses?

philfree 09-27-2014 08:09 AM

No Ryder Cup fans? USA is down going into the 4th session. They need to get their act together and bring that Cup home.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-27-2014 08:14 AM

Don't know why Watson wants to use Furyk so much. Guy is one of the worst players in Ryder Cup history. A bunch of pars is worthless in this format.

I've never played in the Memphis area. I'm heading for Hilton Head in a couple weeks to play in a 54 hole tournament. I'm playing at Bear Creek and Hampton Hall. I talked to a guy out there and he said those were the better courses to play. More like country clubs then resorts and they don't get as much play.

philfree 09-27-2014 09:32 AM

The Frenchy has played lights out just knocking down the flag hole after hole.

philfree 09-27-2014 10:10 AM

The US has played poorly in the afternoon sessions both days. They're just not making it happen.

Jerm 09-27-2014 10:17 AM

Boy those picks of Mahan and Webb over Horschel and Simpson sure are looking good.....

Jerm 09-27-2014 10:21 AM

Watson got all the picks wrong TBH...Haas should've been picked over Bradley too.

He's experienced two decades of shit play at the Ryder Cup. I don't see how that makes him worth using. Plus, the guy is the Scott Hoch of his generation: an epic choke artist who is more comfortable with a top five than trying to win.
