Goddammit DJ, we've talked about this! Your insistence on stating facts backed up by data is getting a little old. If it FEELS like 2-3 penalties a game it's obviously 2-3 penalties a game.

Personally, I'm fine with letting Snead go. It's Charvarious Ward all over again. I love what he brings, but factoring in the number of concussions, the amount of penalties, and our ability to draft and develop the CB position, and I'm totally fine letting someone else pay him.

Tranquil I'd like to keep, but he may be pricing himself out.

Edwards has been a fun development this year as he has a knack for finding the ball. Not sure what he'll cost to retain.

Charvarious Ward was okay, but he's not in the same league as Sneed. Sneed is the 2nd best corner this team has had in a long long time.

Dunerdr 11-10-2023 01:22 PM

I love Sneed and I think part of the gameplan is for him to beat the shit out of these elite WR's. However I think age, concussions and the entire off season long knee injury have to be accounted for. Veach has been frugal.

I think we've seen though when Gay is playing well the upside for him is just as high as any offball LB'er in the league.

I'd prefer Gay and Bolton to stay together but that probably just won't happen so I'd keep Drue and slide him into the Gay role.

Trying to think of the last time the Chiefs had a LB who could cover the middle of the field as well as Tranquill? DJ is the only one in recent memory.

This is where I am, too. I had Sneed in the 'as good as gone after this season' category, especially based on how many CBs Veach has brought in during the last year-and-a-half. But after watching him play this season, I'm not sure he's a guy you can let get away. Lockdown CBs aren't falling out of trees, and we've got two of them. But he's going to be really expensive.

In terms of LBs, can't imagine that, financially, we bring back both Tranquil and Gay next year. Losing either one of them will be a blow, both of them are very solid players.

I don't envy Veach and the decisions he's going to have to make this offseason. But that's obviously a great problem to have.

I'm betting that game was the least fun Tyreek Hill has ever had on a football field. Even apart from the game-altering fumble, that guy was getting mauled out there.

It didn't look like a good time at all.

Sneed has been jamming the **** out everyone this season. He's so damn physical he looks like a 16 year old playing with a bunch of 12 year olds. He ate Justin Jefferson's lunch and I'm not sure JJ ever knew what hit him. It's been extremely impressive.

Indeed.

Cook chewed our asses up in space in the first half. Tranquill would've made a big difference.

ThaVirus 12-12-2023 11:23 AM

Cochrane is basically Ben Neimann reincarnated.

It’s imperative that we keep him off the field in the postseason.

Yep, need them for Special teams, and he's good there, but shouldn't be getting much playing time. Folks on here torched Niemann, but he should have never been put in the position of having significant playing time. Man, have we upgraded the LB group.

Makes a lot of sense as a replacement Will with Leo playing as Sam.

Gay plays more closely as a Sam because of his strength at the point of attack but we use him on the weak side a ton.

But he's not a young player anymore either. He'll be 29 next season so you're really looking at maybe a 2 year deal before looking to move on. And as a slightly undersized player, he'll take a fair bit of abuse as a starter over more snaps.

I'd prefer keep him in his present role to keep him healthy and effective. But if we had to start him, that works.

Nah, linebackers are now way more productive for longer because it's not a run first league anymore. There's lots of guys like Bobby Wagner still playing at a high level at 33+. This isn't the 80's NFL anymore.

**** him and his entire season of business decisions, man. What looked like a guy who was at the end of the road was really just a guy who was playing tentatively because he wanted to re-set the safety market in order to extend and we wouldn't oblige him.

I'd be less irritated by him if he had just sucked this season.

This is exactly why we should have no trouble keeping him. I'm betting he signs a 2-year/$9 million type deal. Nobody else is going to offer him much more than that he's damn sure worth that kind of cost for this team. He fits so perfectly.

Yeah, I think that's probably right.

Off-ball 'backers are pretty fungible but for the right team at the right time they can be really valuable. Most teams aren't gonna pay a lot to bring one of those guys in, especially as they near their 30s.

He, along with Clark were instrumental in changing the culture of this defense after the 2018 embarrassment. Hard to quantify that value. Doesn’t mean either should still be on this roster, but I am thankful for that contribution.
