Is it though? Theres a handful of posters who's opinions I put any value and they are right way more than PFF and its bullshit grades.

It didn’t really matter because we have 15.

I get your point BUT it does matter because you definitely need a nice secure garage that protects your Lamborghini at QB.;)

They see Niang as the long game starter at RG, I think. Osemele is a lottery ticket they hope will give us a dependable option at LG if nobody else (Rankin, Wylie) steps up and owns the position. I think they might see one of the younger guys we got in UDFA as the long term starter at one of the other interior line spots.

I'd agree Osemele is better on the left side, but he started at RT as a rookie for Baltimore so you know he can play that side of the line.

Yep for sure! And they’re counting on two guys stepping up out of about six candidates to make sure that happens. Based on the track record Reid and Veach have established I’m not overly concerned that they can’t hit on two decent guards. They’ve earned our trust and that’s just a nice feeling.

I get PFF for WR/QB/RB and to some extent DB. Catches, drops targets etc are fairly easy to quantify.

OL is a totally different animal. Scheme, QB, RB, OL cohesiveness etc all play a big role.

No. Osemele will start.

I hope so, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

I doubt it.

At least not right away.

Maybe if we have a whole season he will earn a starting role sometime during the year, but being signed a month before the season starts with no offseason or knowledge of the system is far away from being a starter. Iirc.

Andy goes with trust before talent on his OL.

I guess the flip side is if they had confidence in someone from the current roster to play at a high level at LG, maybe they don’t sign a guy like Osemele.

It’s a win/win. If he starts he’s a proven All Pro. If he doesn’t it means some young stud beat him out.

Good to go.

He'll start. Reid prefers veterans. This man only had a shoulder injury that the Jets thought he could play through. Only four years removed from being an All-Pro with no injuries to his legs, we don't have an interior linemen close to his pedigree.

Just based on his bio notes, if he's healthy he'll start.

Great LT for Iowa State, briefly was the best guard in the league with Oakland. He’s a few years and injury’s removed from those years, but I think he will do well in our offense. We’ve made less talented guys look good at guard.

That’s pretty much the long and short of it. Reid and company make guys like Andrew Wylie, Cam Erving, Austin Reiter and Parker Ehinger look decent, to the point where one was traded for a legit young #2 corner.

I’m just not worried.

Eric Fisher, Mitch Morse, Zach Fulton and Andrew Wylie say “Hi”

Yep. A better comment would be “Reid prefers tackles at every o-line position and if none are available he chooses a veteran.”

DaneMcCloud 07-25-2020 09:38 PM

It’s silly to predict who will start this Fall when there’s been no OTA’s, no minicamps and no practice since February.

Osemele has yet to pass a physical, let alone, learn the playbook and develop any chemistry with the other offensive lineman.
