:hmmm: Interesting...

ghak99 12-11-2020 12:14 PM

What did they actually do wrong? Did they drill one too many holes in the block or actually create and ship more than a box of parts?

The alphabet is eventually going to have one hell of a time tracking down every 3d printer making blocks with all the holes in the right spot.

Just ordered a Triggertech Diamond trigger for my 6.5 AR10 build. Anyone have any experience with these?

Bowser 12-30-2020 11:32 AM

My Daniel Defense mods for the AR are FINALLY being delivered today (supposedly). Took them a hot minute to get them out to me.

And also finally took the Berretta PX4 Storm out for a drive. I nearly traded that in on another pistol, but I'm kind of glad I didn't. The double safety on it is cumbersome, but the gun fires smooth and is easy to handle.

Need some DD porn asap, please.

Yeah, I had two Storms at one time; great bang-for-your-buck gun. A little thick for my taste as a CCW, but for service, HD, truck, field, Storms are an excellent choice. Accessory availability was a problem back then though.

I picked up the DDM4V7 a couple of weeks ago. Have not had a chance to play with it. My goal is to set it up for 200 yards and don't think plinking at the 25 yard indoor range will be too much fun. I did put my eotech HHS1 on the rails just to see what it looked like. Its like gun porn.

Buehler445 12-31-2020 10:46 AM

FWIW, I've gotten a couple emails from Classic Firearms about having 9mm in stock. And not for god awful prices. Not good prices, but totally outrageous.

That's the first ad I've seen in a long time for 9mm ammo. Maybe things are going to return to some level of normalcy.

I bought my Son a Trijicon ACOG for his AR at Christmas. He loves it....damned fine scope once he got in tuned in at 100 yards. He is now hitting (easily) targets at nearly 600 yards with it.

Hell, I might have to get one for my AR as well..... :)

Back in the "olden days" - in Vietnam, we had iron sights and nothing more. Still, it was fairly easy to hit the mark at 300 yards with little effort.

Learn to reload.

Considering the cost of ammo down the road, you'll save what you spend on equipment in around 1,000 rds.

Yeah, right now they are. You can get projectiles and powder still, though it's somewhat overpriced.

But these prices on ammo are going to remain high for at least a couple three years, same as last time. Materials though will become more available over the next six months probably. Again, based on the last couple times this happened.

So assuming things repeat in a similar fashion, the public will be paying $800+ for manufactured ammo for at least the next two to three years, and even at the inflated prices for materials, you will be able to make ammo for less than half of that. As you can get all the equipment/materials you need to load 1000 rds of .233 rem for about $600 or so, you're going to be able to recoup your costs in about 1,000 to 1,500 rds. And once prices go back down, close to before COVID, you'll still be saving $$ rolling your own vs. buying, just it'll be a savings of $100-$200 instead of $400-$500 or whatever.

Plus, once you have the equipment and materials you're never subject to these shortages or required to pay these outrageous prices ever again. And all of your materials are non-perishable, properly stored. I know guys that have used primers and powder that's more than 20 years old.

The only way it doesn't make sense is if you shoot less than 500 or so rds every couple years. About 17 mags worth. So unless you're shooting less than 8 mags/year, it makes more sense to reload your own for the next 3 years, then stock up on both manufactured ammo and materials when the prices return to pre-COVID levels until the next panic happens.

Well, I finally took the plunge and bought myself a ACOG for my AR. Damn but it's sweet. I felt sort of "cheated" when I began sighting it in at the range today. If ONLY every 11B had one of those on his 16 back in the day......

Those would have certainly helped on those hills in the A Shau...........

I was so upset about it - I took the rifle (my last one ;) ) and threw it, and the 10 Pmags I had left into a lake..........

I was kind of thinking about only certain parts of the gun and not entirely positive I want something permanent. I did look through some of his work though and it does look amazing.

I’m finally getting some upgrades to my AR that I’ve been to do and kept finding reasons not to. Actually, I’m going a step further than I intended and switching out the upper as well. It was a combo deal with a hand guard I was looking at and decided I liked the “monolithic” look of it.

http://https://www.at3tactical.com/p...andguard-combo

So that is on order as is a sexy and functional new trigger guard. I still have to order a low profile gas block which I’ll do this week after I find my boss’ calipers (they were no where to be found in the shop yesterday) so I can measure my barrel. I’m also upgrading/changing out the stock and pistol grip and am nearly decided which way to go with those. I’ll add a Magpul MS1 padded sling and a flashlight and probably call it good for a while. Although I am really interested in the Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger side charging system. I need to do some research on it first and see how durable and reliable it is and if there are any negatives to it.

I have one similar to that. The guts of it appear to basically be the same thing, just an electronic fuel pump that sends a 25ft stream of gas/diesel mix through an ignition source.
The distance will vary depending on the ratio of your mix, but the sweet spot is about 25ft using 60(gas)/40(diesel). Its fun. Its not terribly effective in clearing snow and wind affects it a lot. But for a day when you feel like jackassing around or starting brush fires you piled up a couple years ago, it has a purpose.

For KC people - Great Guns in Liberty has been far and away the best at keeping ammo stocked. Granted, it's mostly FMJ stuff, but at least they have it and don't completely extort you on the price for it.

100%... Unlike me not bein g willing to by a .270 until I know I can get enough rounds to zero it and hunt with it for a season, I am looking at getting all the reloading gear, then hoping reloading supplies start becoming available. I'm giddy that I've always saved me brass, so I at least have enough .30-06 and .243 spent brass to start with...

Man finding reloading supplies and quality kits won't be easy either without being raped. For the money this kit is very good quality with an excellent single stage press. It has everything you need to begin reloading. I turned a co-worker onto this a year ago from MidwayUSA for a little less than 500 bucks. Its a quality kit and Redding has been around forever. Their reloading dies are second to none. They are quality machined and polished which when you start reloading you will appreciate.

Also check your local craigslist. Used reloading presses are just as good as brand new, without the retail price.

And, estate sales, garage sales, etc. I've found some perfectly useable equipment and even primers, cases, etc. at garage sales. Best ones are when the lady has no idea what they're worth.

A month ago, a buddy got himself completely tricked out for under $300, including RCBS turret press, three sets of dies, a beam scale, powder measure, brass tumbler, dial calipers, brass trimmer, 500 cases of 9mm/45 acp brass (mixed), 2 boxes of spp, and a half-dozen 50-pc. shell holders. Retail that's probably well over $700 by now.

Shiver Me Timbers 01-15-2021 08:34 PM

My hunch-
Things might get easier locally for a while. The new admin has outlawing online sales of firearms and ammo on the radar. AKA goodbye Gunbroker.
This will disrupt the current distribution (online) model for a bit. I do not see prices going down. Resellers will still be paying more. Manufactures will still be chasing materials (made harder to get by the new admin) and we are all going to get the hell taxed out of us on anything "gun" related.
I am sorry to say it but 90c a round for 45 acp will be the new normal.
Oh and "they" will do everything they can to stop the manufacturing, sales and ownership of "spooky looking" firearms.

:grr: Yeah I believe you are right on this sadly.

Now the problem is finding stock that isn't overpriced.

Well, in CA you can't even buy powder or primers so reloading is out of the question as well. I downsized my collection of guns last year before and as Covid hit. Was able to offload quickly the weapons but because of CA laws, I am no longer able to sell the ammo that I have that i do not need, not even through a FFL dealer. Even though the ammo is new in boxes. Three years left, and I am out of this shithole of California.

You could "donate" it to a CP friend who would "donate" to the Big K moving fund.....

and one other thing- that crazy CA law shit is heading east and is not stopping

Unfortunately, so are the ideas of the fleeing California people.

Every year, my family and I take a three week trip across America with our travel trailer to visit National and State parks in other states. We are also looking at the land for a possible place to end up. Nevada is nice, we are there every year for two to three days on our on trips.

Nevada is nice - HOT - but nice. I have 160 acres in Wyoming that we bought several years back as a "last place" to make our stand (so to speak). You've never felt wind until you spend a day or two in Wyoming ROFL

The thing that tipped the scales for me (personally) was (1) the price of land and (2) the lack of humans......

Over the years, we have built our main home and a home for our kids (boy and girl), barns, wells, livestock, Generac generators and a medium sized wind turbine. None of this came cheaply. The thing about living away from folks is that it costs an arm and a leg to be "separate" from others. Our nearest neighbors are the ranch about 10-12 miles North of us.

But yet, nothing strikes me as "free" as waking up on a snowy morning and being able to step out my back door, take a leak ;) and firing a few rounds at Jacks or a coyote. Try doing that in a subdivision here in Johnson County and they'll haul your ass to the jail ;)

Our only derisive decision is when too sell out here in Kansas and head out there one last time. For some odd-assed reason, I feel the time growing closer each day.........

Ranall-
CONGRATS ON LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM! You are a rock star in my book.
PS.............. we all felt that wind today. Wife was supposed to drive back from KS today. I-70 got shut down because of wind. I saw earlier today that I-76 was closed this morning due to a semi load of cattle getting toppled 40 miles west of Nebraska.
Spent 3 years in Hay KS. Got numb to the "breeze".

Thanks! I had a very good friend that lived just off I-76 in Brighton until he sold out and moved - couldn't take the politics of Denver any longer.

Funny thing about living the "American Dream" - it's expensive. That's why we started readying ourselves years and years ago. We're not "preppers" as such, just wanted something different. Having lived all over the world, my Wife and I just got tired of the "same old, same old" and we wanted something else for our kids and grand kids.

I don't have a great deal of time left any longer - so I wanted the Wife, kids and grandkids left with the ability to live without me. Hell, I woke up about a week ago with a raging case of shingles. Seems as though the Oncologists neglected to let me know that radiation and chemo destroys the shingles vaccination. Par for the course.....ROFL

Wyoming is beautiful. I love that state so much. If I ever left Kansas (and not the USA) I would move there.

Montana was also on the list too, but after looking at houses out of boredom I think that's out of the question. A home similar to mine in Kalispell is about 375k.

I didn’t know you had cancer.

Sorry to hear that my man.

Damn, that sucks. You must be one tough old bastard. Hang in there!

I never gave much thought to the shingles until a few years ago, when one of my high school friends caught it in his late 40s. All it took was one conversation with him where he described the symptoms and the pain and I got vaccinated for it the next day. Yeesh.

I recently had a family member get it in her eye. IN her mother ****ing EYE! I didn't even know that was possible, but you can bet your ass I'll be getting the vaccination after seeing that.
