Not a true horror movie, but fun enough for a date night or a popcorn night with the kids or something.

Better than you'd initially think it would be, i'd say.

Yeah, shades of the Child's Play reboot with the murderous AI doll, but I feel like I'll remember this one a bit more fondly.

Anyone seen the Netflix movie White Noise? It’s eerily similar to what’s happening in Ohio currently.

The wife and I went and watched this last night. We did not think it was funny much at all. Really a boring movie if you ask me. It is getting good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes though so maybe others will like it.

I thought it was a decent movie, but also that there were a couple of scenes that really needed to be re-thought.

Just got done watching the Banshees of Inisherin. I enjoyed it and it was definitely something a bit different. Brendan Gleeson and Colin Ferrell are just excellent actors in anything.

I am not sure who I felt sorrier for at the end... Colin's character or the son of the policeman.

Went and watched 65 today. Was one of the better movies I've seen in a long while. Asteroid extinction level event/hungry ass dinosaurs of all sizes/spaceships and alien technology blowing said dinosaurs apart. It's got it all for a good popcorn flick that didn't seem to be a very long movie.

Hammock Parties 03-20-2023 08:57 AM

anyone got a tweak or something to get older PCs to play 4k HEVC/H.265 smootly

got an i7 4th gen, 16 GB, with intel HD 4600/quadro k100M graphics that gets me 90% of the way there but odd dropped frames every minute or so

wondering if there's some combo of settings in WMP-HC or VLC that will do the trick...or maybe just more RAM

Anyone catch The Menu 2022 with Ralph Fiennes? I have to say that even though it was strange it was a damn good movie. Makes you want a cheeseburger in the worst way.

It was pretty compelling.

Very arty in a way that will never happen. But some really tight shit in there. Some really interesting thoughts about elitism, fanaticism. Good stuff.

Fiennes is so good. ATJ was really good also.

She’s really good, went toe to toe on the big screen with Fiennes. They killed it.

You should read the book.

Cliff notes are the Osage got oil on the reservation. Lots of money. And there was a law that the Native Americans could be deemed "incompetent" and then a trustee was assigned to handle their business and they got epically fleeced. And they straight up murdered fools so they could get oil rights transferred to someone that would have a white guy married into the Native American families and would sell the rights.

Yeah, in this case, white man bad.

Really, you should read the book. It is an easy read and is ****ing excellent. Really ****ing excellent. Horrifying, but excellent.

I watched an absurd tongue-in-cheek movie called Wild Things (1997) last night starring some pretty big name actors in Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, and Bill Murray. I vaguely remember hearing about it growing up (and in particular a certain scene involving Denise Richards), but no idea how I'd never seen it before. It's something that definitely wouldn't be made today for various reasons, but it was pretty hilarious.

Hammock Parties 05-24-2023 07:59 PM

Been on a Mel Brooks kick.

To Be Or Not Be (1983) is absolutely hilarious. The fake beard switcheroo scene was classic. Yes I know it's a remake, don't care.

History of the World Part II on Hulu was mildly amusing but kind of a letdown.

BigBeauford 05-25-2023 07:01 AM

Not new, but finally got to see Whiplash and it was indeed a masterpiece.

I felt the same way about Part II. I enjoyed the Jesus/Beatles and the Russian Revolution and a few of the one-off skits, but more of the longer ones, like Shirley! and the Ulysses Grant were boring or cringy.

Soooo....watched Little Mermaid this weekend (My niece's bday).

It's totally awesome if you're a 10 year old girl i imagine. I dozed off a few times (theater had those super comfy electric reclining chairs).

I mean, it's The Little Mermaid, what do you expect me to say. It's probably everything you think it is.

And anyone who wants to hate on Halle Bailey can suck a chode. That girl is a sweetheart and was fantastic in her role as Little Mermaid.

ToxSocks 05-30-2023 03:06 PM

Also taking my wife to see it tonight as she didn't get to attend my Niece's bday thing and Mermaid is her favorite childhood disney movie.

So yes, i will be seeing The Little Mermaid twice in 3 days. Mother**** you Scott Pioli.

I still think her face looks like a Disney character come to life. The proportions are just weird.

It was jarring and distracting even in a commercial for the movie.

Then again, movie wasn't made for me and I don't suspect my kids are gonna give a shit. I just think she looks like something a bad AI would draw.

I think she's cute and would def tap.

But she fit the role perfectly. Great smile, cute as a button and can sing.

Even if Disney wasn't playing the multiracial angle, i'd still have no complaints.

They pushed the multiracial thing hard with the casting, but i honestly dgaf. She was perfectly cast in this role.

But casting Prince Eric's mother (The queen) as black and then having to make up some "adopted" backstory to explain why Eric is white and his mom is black is just....****ing stupid but w/e.

CoMoChief 05-31-2023 08:46 AM

Unfortunately I had to see Fast X with some family over the wkn.

I think I've only see the first 2 back when I was in HS, and bits and parts of others and saw the Hobbs/Shaw spin off.

These movies get more and more ridiculous and I can't believe theyre making 2 more.

Most of the live adaptations of Disney anime have been crap.

Her eyes are super wide-set. It’s weird, though I have seen some pics of her where she looks pretty.

Sort of like that Anya Taylor Johnson or whatever her name is. The white chick from Last Night in Soho, Split and The Menu. Generally she looks weird af but sometimes she is pretty cute in an odd way.

Anyway, Halle Bailey’s sister Chloe has a bit more traditional look. Neither are really all that.

Hah, yeah, it’s absurd.

The Fast and the Furious: they were stealing DVDs
2 Fast 2 Furious: they took down a drug smuggler
Tokyo Drift: high school love triangle
Fast and Furious: they took down an international drug smuggler
Fast Five: they robbed a Brazilian politician for millions

And that’s about where my knowledge of the series stops. To this day, I still enjoy each and every one of those listed, but couldn’t tell you a ****ing thing about any of them past the fifth one.

Well, in one of them they drive a super car between skyscrapers in Dubai. I do remember that lol

I also find it hilarious that Tokyo Drift, which is pretty universally hated, is still the purest racing movie of the bunch.

Good comp.

But doesn't Anya Taylor Johnson (or whatever her name is; I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about) have substantial other 'assets' that makes one a little more willing to look past the 'unique' look?

I was in the mood for a comedy and fired up Shotgun Wedding.

It’s dumb as shit but made me laugh. Normally I’m not into that kind of shit but I was in a mood. If silly comedy is your bag, do it. Lenny Kravitz is awesome.

And somehow Jennifer Lopez at 53 looks goddamned spectacular. Defies physics, logic, biology. All of it. I don’t understand.

I find Josh Duhamel likeable and watchable in an action role. I think he's even pretty good in a father figure role.

I ****ing HATE him in rom coms. Sadly, the guy's so annoyingly good looking that he gets cast in them a lot.

Ana Taylor Joy was really good in Queen's Gambit. That is a really well-written and well-acted streaming series.

Eh, he was OK.

There are a lot of guys that would be a lot better, but there was enough cheese it fit right in there.

Annoyingly good looking is an apt description.

Josh Duhamel is a dollar store Timothy Olyphant.

Yeah, I started rewatching it because DJLN is all up in here talking about her.

I had forgotten how good it was. And knowing the beats that it hits, I can appreciate the nuance I glossed over before.

It is definitely a good re-watch.

i never read the book it was based upon, but the streaming series had incredible screenwriting.

Tons of nuance, and had all kinds of sexual and racial things that could have gotten into tiresome woke tropes, but never descended there.

Ana had obstacles, but was never a "victim." Chess was a boys club, but when she proved her excellence over the board, the chess obessed guys totally accepted her as a peer.

The whole thing about substance addiction, but how the substance addiction helped her visulize chess in her head was an interesting theme, and so much more emotional nuance in the characters was top shelf writing, and the actors executed the parts very well.

I vaguely remember hearing about it growing up (and in particular a certain scene involving Denise Richards), but no idea how I'd never seen it before. It's something that definitely wouldn't be made today for various reasons, but it was pretty hilarious.

Denise Richards totally rocked that one piece bathing suit. SHe was a terrible Bond girl but hot as **** in Wild Things.

My wife loves him. He's some kind of spokesman for the company she works for and every time he's in the office she makes sure she goes to work instead of working from home.

A couple months ago they were doing inventory and noticed a tractor was unaccounted for. After a lot of searching they found out that it was still parked at his farm. I guess he used it for a commercial and they forgot to drive it back.

Just watched Knock Knock.

Jesus **** that gave me an unbelievable amount of anxiety.

And Ana De Armas is so frickin hot. :D

Of course, the alternate ending really makes it an origin story for John Wick LMAO

Don’t ever let strangers in your house, especially hot women. :)

Vengeance with BJ Novak...who even wrote the film. Was fantastic. Stay until the end. Ashton Kuchar also plays a great part.

Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse is good. If you liked the first one, you will enjoy this one as well.

Just watched The Menu after Critical Drinker recommended it and it didn’t disappoint. Good movie. It was driving me nuts though as I recognized the voice of the Elsa character (Asian maitre d) but couldn’t figure out where she was from. Turns out it’s the actress from the Night Agent on Amazon. Just looks totally different in both roles with hair and costume.

We watched Air last night. Very good!
