The Ravens have to pay him, right? You can’t trade an MVP or let him walk in FA?

They’re going to regret paying him.

They have to pay him. They are about to pay their LT top dollar as well. Guessing Andrews will get paid big money when the time comes as well, but that's actually a cheap option compared to the type of money receivers are getting nowadays.

Make the Ravens drive the distance rather than give Lamar the short field would’ve been the better call. The Ravens simply do not have the quick strike offense to get into a shootout.

KC was just ****ing around at that point. I'm not kidding. Looked like they were just ****ing around all 2nd half. And I loved it.

Everybody keeps praising Lamar but he’s never led a team back from being down by 10+ points. He’s dangerous because of his legs but I’ve never thought he was as good as his numbers suggest. Who knows. Maybe I’m just old and crotchety or too blinded by Mahomes’ play in KC. But I’d rather have Josh Allen than Lamar.

Lamar seems to me to be similar to Alex Smith: good enough to win games and get you into playoffs, but not good enough to put the team on his back and win. GOod enough that, surrounded by good personnel and decent coaches, you draft between spots 20 and 26 but never 31 or 32.

After the first drive, KC shut his run game down until they decided not to. He's not great and tonight will stay in his head because he has a weak mentality.

Sad thing is it will be the same old shit next time we face them. It will be "blah blah blah, Lamar is improving as a passer, blah blah blah, the Ravens are completely unstoppable!"

Jackson wouldn’t be able to place the ball like Mahomes did on the Tyreek TD last night. Deep pass, dropping it in right over the defense, at the back of the end zone.

I’m so sick of how coddled LJ is. Even after this loss, Lamar’s ball washers are still out in force saying he’s still a young player and he’ll learn from this. Dude, you can’t teach accuracy, you can tweak a few mechanics but that’s it. He can’t win a shootout because he doesn’t have the consistent accuracy downfield that’s needed. He has yet to show the resiliency needed to come from behind and win.

FloridaMan88 09-29-2020 08:22 AM

Just compare Lamar Jackson's demeanor/body language when his team is trailing/facing adversity to Mahomes in those same situations.

That's another reason why Lamar is not and probably will never be at Mahomes' level.

You also can’t fix arm strength. Jackson has plenty when he is sitting in the pocket, but if he’s on the move he just can’t move it downfield with accuracy.

One of the reasons his accuracy isn’t great, IMO, is that his arm strength isn’t great. That’s why he struggles with the throws that require the most velocity AND accuracy. He can do one. He can’t do both beyond 10 yards.

Sure. The formula is:

1) Have a great front four that can create pressure from the outside and interior, with at least 3 above-average pass rushers and at least one elite pass rusher.

2) Have a DEEP secondary that features: at least 4 CBs - so you can rotate them and keep them fresh; at least 3 good S, including one who can play CF and at least one who can single up against TEs

3) Incredible discipline and consistent tackling across the entire back 7

How many teams have that blueprint?

The 49ers did (don't now, without Bosa and Buckner)

The Chargers DO

The Steelers have the pass rush and talent on the back end, but I don't think they have the depth the Chargers do at CB and S.

Other than that, who?

Well, I think the blueprint is about the same as the chargers and 49ers have to beat us. They don't have a blueprint. They just have the exact personnel and scheme to frustrate us. You beat Baltimore by taking them out of their game. The minute they press or can't beat a tired defense into submission in the second half, they have no answer. I don't think the challenge is stopping lamar, it's having to stop lamar, their running game, and defense at the same time. We can explode against their good defense in ways others can't. Our defense is also good enough to get just enough early stops.

So Baltimore will still be a tough team. But we are their daddy. Because our offense is their kryptonite.

To be honest, I know that Lamar Jackson will sign for a huge contract as a QB, and this will never happen. But if the Ravens try to screw you Lamar, and you want to win rings, you can come to KC and can be our Taysom Hill. Tyreek, Travis, Clyde, Sammy, Mecole and Lamar... tell me who is stopping that?

I mean, they did. But we left 11 special teams points on the board and had a fumble on a clear scoring drive. Which prevented an even BIGGER blowout. So at best catching those passes upgrades a terrible performance to bad.

One drop on a really nice end zone toss.

Guys are killing Andrews for not catching the ball near midfield when he split the safety, but ball placement is why that ball wasn't caught.

He made Andrews (STILL a tight end, guys, act accordingly) lunge for a ball while in full gallop just as he was about to get blasted by a couple defenders. Better ball placement and that's probably a catch.

But because Jackson's ball placement is poor, Andrews is forced to attempt a HELL of a catch and people want to call it a drop. Roman dialed up a good play, got a good look and Andrews executed the route perfectly. Jackson just delivered a mediocre ball. That's not strictly a drop - it was a misfire.

The question then becomes: what is the upside? What is the value of a strong-armed passer who can’t throw deep or take advantage of the velocity he creates on shorter throws. The inevitable comparisons to Colin Kaepernick or Tyrod Taylor will be used but both Taylor and Kaepernick show off more discipline with their feet and better accuracy. Both are better decision makers who break down coverages faster too.

The best part is you could literally substitute "Jackson" for "Mahomes" and the article makes sense. ROFL

Jackson's delivery over the middle was about a foot high all night. And two or three times he threw into triple coverage.

Hard to call those drops at all.

Can’t even count how many times Andrews has bailed out Lamar on horrendous throws. It happens every game.

I'll just post it from the Wayback archives because that sniveling little **** deleted the article:

Spoiler!

The gifs are all dead but who cares?

Just search 'fahey' in the CP archives and you'll see what a worthless shitheel this guy has been and how completely unwilling he is to acknowledge how wrong he was on Patrick Mahomes.

Yeah, nobody has ever faceplanted with analysis harder than this guy did with Mahomes before the Draft. Less accurate than Kaepernick? Dumb SOB. Very, very dumb.

Except for the 'strong armed passer' part.

Did you hear them pumping him off after the TD to Boyle?

Late on the throw and put it too far into his body on the easiest pitch/catch throw that exists in the NFL. A simple curl over the middle on a play-action.

There is literally not an easier play to make and because Jackson was slow to get it out, didn't have the gun to blast it in there and didn't put it up and away from the defender, Thornhill was still able to get a hand on it and would've knocked it away if he had the explosion he had last season.

And they act like it was as good as any play Mahomes made last night.

The ****ing bar for this guy is ridiculously low. Just don't drool on yourself and we'll call you amazing, Lamar.

Sadly, he pretty much just drooled on himself last night.

Yeah, I said the same last night in the game thread - they've set the bar insanely low in an effort to pump him up. It makes last night look even worse.

Here’s the deal, though. You can have ALL of that, but you STILL won’t beat the Chiefs unless your coach is willing to go balls out and ATTACK at every opportunity. Shanny had the chance to call a timeout in the SB and go for another touchdown, but decided to go Marty instead. A Raiders fan acquaintance said “lol Chiefs got this” the moment Shanny Jr. went conservative before halftime.

I think Bill was the only head coach who really understood this (and had the defense to slow down the Chiefs) AND attacked at every opportunity in the AFCCG (and still was a Dee Ford away from losing) You just will not beat the Chiefs by shutting them down all 4 quarters. Even with the perfect defensive formula, Pat and Andy will eventually break that dam.

Hammock Parties 09-29-2020 10:20 AM

Lamar missed two deep shots that could have had a huge impact on the game.

1. One the drive where they got the field goal in the third quarter. Would have made the score 27-17. Overthrew Hollywood Brown.

2. On the TD drive, he underthrew Hollywood Brown and was almost picked by Ward. They still got a TD, but ate up 3-4 more minutes of clock.

Elite QBs hit both and change the game.

I've noticed lately how completely freakin' spoiled I am watching Mahomes... the frequency at which other QBs miss relatively easy throws and even the longer throws seems so much more glaring now.

I really do wish Lamar Jackson was better though... and if not him, a QB in the AFC who could one day make for a Brady/Manning type of rivalry. Fun regular season games, epic playoff games. Not just one-off performances, but something that lasts years.

**** that. I want to rape faces for the next 15 years. Let Trevor Lawrence go to the NFC with Wilson and Rodgers so they can beat each other up and we get the winner.

I think Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence could one day be those guys. Maybe Tua as well...

DeShaun Watson if he had a better organization around him....

My belief all along was that you had to make Lamar uncomfortable.....because he'll revert back to what he is: A talented athlete who can't hit the side of a barn.

Rodgers at best has 4 years of high level play left, Wilson I dunno if he's gonna be good at 40 with his style but it's possible.

But unfortunately as of today Trevor Lawrence is probably gonna end up a Jet cause that team is so ****in terrible.

It's weird having this talk because Buffalo is undefeated but Josh Allen even with good numbers is so ****in wild I dunno what to think. Dude does crazy shit, holds the ball like bread and tries to truck defenders, I just dunno if he's truly a franchise guy with his style.

Yea I still don’t buy into him ever being a top QB, but I think he has a better shot than Lamar.

He's entertaining to watch he's like Roethlisberger if Roethlisberger did some crack and went wild out.

He’s in a different universe than Lamar frankly. Allen has progressively improved as both a passer and QB since coming into the league, and he always had the pure arm talent, something Lamar lacks. We need to remember that this guy made Mahomes look like a polished prospect coming out. He was the definition of raw. Dude has come a long way since his first year. The turnovers are still a problem but he is a bonafide playmaker.

From what I’ve seen of Allen in all three games this year, I’m probably only talking Pat, ARod, and Wilson over him at this point in time.

The thing is though if you see all of his plays he still misses wide open guys because he doesn't trust pockets so he moves and he does wild shit that makes you wonder if he'll do something nuts like have a 6 turnover game.

Josh plays too recklessly.

And Watson has very little pocket presence. Holds the ball way too long - that's nobody's fault but his own.

Allen is the most reckless QB I may have ever seen, he's the first dude I've watched and honestly thought..this dude is just wild, he's like a pitcher that throws 104 with no control.

It’s possible. He definitely still has room to improve but that’s what’s so alluring about Allen. He can clearly still get better, even though he’s been fantastic so far. His upside is about as high as any QB in football not named Mahomes.

What makes me confident he’ll improve is that he has gotten better every single season. He’s progressed as smoothly as you could have hoped, IMO.

Also he runs like a linebacker and it’s still something I can’t get used to seeing. Dude Stiff arms defenders like he’s Marshawn Lynch. He’s easily my favorite player to watch who isn’t a Chief.

Sassy Squatch 09-29-2020 01:14 PM

Pretty entertaining to watch him play, though. If the Bills defense can get their shit together that team will have some serious potential.

He's Roethlisberger if Ben got coked out of his mind before a game, that's all I can compare him to.

They just don’t have much of a pass rush. I don’t see much changing this year.

He's a lot like Cam Newton. He's not going to hold up playing the way he does.

Major ****ing props to the Bills for getting him Stefon Diggs as well. That's a top 5 QB-WR connection when he's on point.
