I'm not the baseball wizard Duncan is, but how many teams out there need a 3B? Not many. The market for 3B is bleak. Turner will be back for LAD, unless he has a set back and needs surgery most good teams are set at 3B.

That's half the reason he came back to the Royals in the first place.

The Yankees still might be your best bet, but you'd need Andujar to fall off, and the Yankees aren't big on giving up prospects these days... especially for a half season rental.

Best bet is the Braves staying in it and deciding its worth sacrificing a little surplus prospect value for a run this year with their young core. They have a stud prospect but he’s likely still a year away.

Best bet would be getting a single top 100 prospect for him, I think.

TomBarndtsTwin 04-21-2018 01:20 PM

So, pitching Duffy on 3 days rest maybe not the best idea . . . .

Who would have thunk it?

What's funny is the last time we had the #1, we long lamented that it came between two busts - Luke Hochevar and Andrew Miller.

Amazing how both ended up finding their place as lockdown guys in the pen.

RIP Verne Troyer

duncan_idaho 04-21-2018 04:48 PM

It’s a bit early for 2019 but I’m going to look into it.

In 2018 draft news, HS RH Kumar Rocker’s projected draft slot is slipping because no one thinks they can get him off his commitment to Vanderbilt.

That’s exactly the type of situation the Royals are positioned to take advantage of with their # of picks and huge draft pool.

Rocker is like 6-8, has a huge arm, and a plus-plus slider.

We appear to be talking just fine with hm. Why not sign him for a few more years and cut payroll in other areas?

The world series was awesome, but I'm with kcchiefs1 I'd take the world series and Manaea. It's a good thing I'm used to the losing. You have a ton of Royals fans who started being fans during the winning. I'm willing to bet most of them won't be fans anymore.

Al Bundy 04-21-2018 09:52 PM

Very depressing that the Royals could have given up Almonte instead. It does show that Dayton and his scouts can't spot good pitching.

Pitt Gorilla 04-21-2018 10:44 PM

Their primary concern was injury with Manaea. But yeah, it was a large mistake.

OKchiefs 04-22-2018 07:10 AM

I don't think Moore has really made the right decision on just about anything since the World Series.

Chiefspants 04-22-2018 07:33 AM

To be fair to Moore on this point, Manaea has yet to show he can get through a full season without injury/wearing down.

If he does get through a full season at this level, that man is a CYA contender. I think we always knew his ceiling, and I doubt anyone would take back that trade.

Sometimes you have to go with talent instead of the safe route. I'm pretty sure you've said all along that losing Manaea was going to be the biggest loss from any of the trades in 2015.

You should have a direct line to Dayton.

Yeah. The rest of it wasn’t a worrisome loss to me.

I knew Lamb was JAG. Reed and a Finnegan most likely relievers.

I think Ruiz is going to the guy last year they miss more than anyone.

With nearly 40 games against the Tigers and White Sox, pretty good reason why this team won't lose 100 games this year. That and it takes really, really good suck to lose 100 games in a baseball season.

500 AB’s, Ned.

I’m most salty about the fact that he hasn’t been starting every game this year. There’s absolutely no excuse for Paulo or Almonte to be stealing his AB’s. Can you imagine if Wil Myers had this start for us in 2012? We’d all be stoked right now.

When you have a gritty guy like Ryan “Getz” Goins you have to get him in the lineup. That’s how you win championships.

He never was. Royals fans of all fans should know better, given what we saw with guys like Moose and Gordon over the years. 25 year old Moose got shipped to AAA and everyone thought he was a bust. Now he's looking like one of the top sluggers in baseball.

Doesn't mean that's what Soler will be, but he has the potential, and unlike a lot of prospects he's had a little success in the majors with the Cubs. Just got to keep running him out there and see if he figures it out.

DeepSouth 04-23-2018 05:26 AM

Clay Bushholz must be activated before May 1st. Who will be removed from the 25 / 40 man roster to make room for him, Grimm or Boyer ?

Gordon is also expected to be activated soon. Who's optioned to Omaha, Orlando or Almonte?

I assume when Perez is activated Gallagher will be optioned to Omaha since he has done nothing to justify keeping him on the 25 man roster.

Feel like Boyer and Grimm are First on the chopping block, though they may let Grimm have some more rope because of the quality of his breaking ball.

They should option Orlando, as Almonte is better at everything except sprinting in a straight line.

They could remove Orlando from the 25 / 40 man roster and give his spot to Bushholz. Bushholz joins the rotation and Skoglund is optioned to Omaha. That way, the Royals would keep both Grimm and Boyer.

I would agree with this if Grimm nor Boyer ever get to pitch in a game where the score is close. Plus, replace Skoglund in the rotation with Buchholz.
