Update coming.

This fanbase doesn't get it.

Quote:

Seriously, what is Cassel suppose to do when the playcalling restricts him so much?

I wish they'd turn him loose, let him do his thing, because only then do I feel I'll be able to fairly judge Cassel as a QB, and pass blame on him for losses.

L.A. Chieffan 09-10-2012 02:52 PM

UPDATED FACTS are bolded within the quotes. Note: I COULD update record against good defenses, playoff teams and winning teams, but we'll wait for Atlanta to qualify themselves as such a team.

Cassel 3:16

Quote:

Matt Cassel is 18-23 in his 41 career starts with the Chiefs.

He is 14-6 in games where we ran the ball more than we threw it.

He is 1-1 in games where rushes and passes were equal. Philip Rivers gifted us one win with a fumbled snap. We lost one other game where Matt Ryan made Cassel cry.

However, in an NFL that is classified as a passing first league, he is 3-16 when we put the ball in the air more than we run it.

These games are - 2009 Steelers, 2009 Raiders, 2011 Vikings. The Chiefs have averaged 19.3 points in these wins. Gus threw 3 TD total.

Cassel Struggles Against Elite Quarterbacks At An Alarming Rate

Quote:

A short list of quarterbacks Gus Cassel has faced throughout his career that might be considered "elite," or "definitely not Cassel in any way":

Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan.

Cassel's record against this group: 3-13 (.1875).

Gus Cassel's Record Against Elite Quarterbacks, By Year:

2012: 0-1
2011: 1-2
2010: 1-3 68 HOT SHIT YARDS
2009: 1-4
2008: 0-3

IMPORTANT FACT #3 In these 16 games against the elite quarterbacks of the NFL, Cassel's teams have averaged 15 offensive points per game.

Statistics tracking for 2012.

Passing over 20 yards:

3 for 3 (go Cassel!)

Sack rate:

After watching that touchdown about 80 times, I'm going to say it.

I don't think that pass was intended for Kevin Boss.

I think that was for D Bowe. He and Boss ran to the same place, Bowe broke off his route. Cassel's body language screams that pass was intended for Bowe.

I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but I would love for *nudge wink* someone *nudge wink* to look at that whole play, and tell me it's not entirely possible.

It's just funny, because Cassel loves to throw the ball six yards behind the line of scrimmage to a guy who has no chance of gaining shit.

And he gets his ass beat.

It's the perfect GIF for this thread, and Cassel haters everywhere.

If it's the one I think you are talking about, he was lucky he threw a duck because if I remember there was a defender breaking on the route.

CR, I have a request. Do you remember that deep pass Cassel made to Bowe against Indy, I am not sure if it was 11 or 10 season, I think it was 11, where the ball was about 20 yards underthrown. That is a great Casshole pass.

If you take away the fumble (that really wasn't all his fault, thats totally on the refs and Albert) and the Moeaki pick (which also wasn't his fault...ball placement was just just fine) he had a good game. Good zip and accuracy on his passes and he showed some poise on some of his throws.

Sorry, but I'm firmly entrenched in the belief that Matt Cassel causes as many of the drops/tipped pass interceptions as his receivers do.

When you are constantly throwing it high, slightly behind, not in stride, to the wrong spot, your receivers are not going to be able to make clean catches.

In 2010, I started noticing that Cassel couldn't hit guys in stride. They never caught the ball with two hands extended in front of their face mask without slowing down or stopping. Why? Because Cassel never put it there. That was the moment I lost faith in him.

I never want to hear about completion percentage. Show me a QB throwing on a crossing route, and I'll tell you immediately if he's accurate or not. Cassel could throw for 70% completion, but he'll never be accurate.

It's true.

He's the only player on the offense other than the center that touches the ball on EVERY play.

To suggest that all of these things are "out of his control" is incorrect.

No, Albert shouldn't have let the rusher run free. Cassel could have also held onto the ball. He's not completely absolved of blame.

Similarly, on the Moeaki tipped ball/INT - although it appears to have been a perfectly-thrown ball, we have no idea about the velocity and other factors that might have led to Moeaki not catching the ball. By sheer virtue of the fact that Cassel THREW THE PASS, he'll never be completely free of blame.

All of that being said, I'm sick and ****ing tired of these conversations. I would just like for ONE TIME to be able to say "he had a good game" and not have to add a qualifier afterwards.

Only one of those picks was his fault and that causes a big swing in the QB rating.

The rest of that stat line is good enough to win with against defenses as good as Atlantas.

I'll take 63% and 7.82 ALL DAY from our quarterback position.

If he ends the year with those averages, Id be happy.

Im not gonna sit here and blame Cassel for a defender wrapping Moeaki up while the ball was in the air and Moeaki STILL getting his hands up high enough to get them on the ball.

On the fumble, JA was WAYYYY offsides and the ball was chopped out within 2 seconds of the snap.

Now way I am placing the blame for the results of those plays on Cassel.

When he fails, Ill be right here to throw him into the fire and will be calling for Brady Quinn and Stanzi to get their chances...but that time hasnt came yet.

If they lose this week, it has to be close. 0-2 going to New Orleans is not the place to be.

He wasn't offsides at all. Dunno why this falsity is getting spread around.

.

Didn't throw a single pass over 22 yards.
