didn't the 9ers kicker get a Superbowl record with 56 yards in the first quarter and then Butker went ahead and one-upped him with a new record, 57 yards? that was awesome

Coincidence? I think not

it has to be Tucker, he's the all pro by default every year in the AFC. Tucker could have missed 10 field goals and 10 XP's and still would be the all pro.

Tucker had a shitty year.

Megatron96 02-12-2024 07:27 PM

Re-watched the kick; the adjustment Butker had to make, or adjustments, make the kick even more incredible. He hit that thing with his instep; increases your accuracy but you lose a lot of power vs. hitting the ball with the top of your foot. The low exit angle (probably quite a bit lower than he actually wanted) had to be Butker adjusting his impact point to compensate for the loss of power. The ball went right between the hands of two SF defenders. A few inches left or right and that would've been blocked. Just an amazing kick.

What an absolute monster.

The trajectory on that kick reminded me of the Stoyanovich game winner kick vs Denver in 1997. Conditions were tough. Frigid temps, 54 yards. Low and line drivey.

Obviously, the stage and pressure were much greater for Butker and Thompson. Whatta kick.

That kick went through the "goal posts" twice. The kick was so low that it could have been blocked, and nearly was. As the ball crossed over the defensive line it went between the hands of two 49ers. Fortunately, nobody had their hand up in between them.

JohnnyHammersticks 02-13-2024 09:54 AM

Butker deservedly getting a lot of love on GMFB this morning.

Kyle Brandt: "I'm not so sure Justin Tucker is this generation's greatest kicker. He's supposed to be the greatest kicker of all-time? I'm not sure he's even the best kicker in his own era. Harrison Butker is nails. Multiple Super Bowls, they don't do it without him. Love Harrison Butker, he deserves credit."

Nah, this a POTM take. It will be forgot about in the off-season when the next big NEWS CYCYLE headline comes along.

After 2024 is done and the Chiefs have 3-peated, they will quietly re-sign him(likely to the largest deal in NFL history for a kicker) and no one outside of KC will give two shits as they'll be on to whatever BIG news thing is going on with some other athlete.

If anything, Rice should thank Butker. People have pretty much forgotten about the Rice thing and already moved on.

Butker just needs another NFL player to step up and do something really stupid to take the attention off him for a while.

And with the NFL's history, I give it about 30 days tops and the intrawebs will be outraged about something else and have forgotten about Butker.

He good.
