I've known the guys for nearly 25 years. It's a parody band but that seems to elude their audience...

Yeah if you can't see that then you're not looking too hard. They don't take themselves too seriously which is a breath of fresh air in that particular genre.

Rock may not be dead, but there aren't too many current rock bands that can sell out big venues anymore. It's been compartmentalized, and isn't what it once was. I'm fine with that, there are tons of unsigned/ smaller market bands that are easily as good as the garbage the radio feeds the masses as you well know.

But if you turn on basically any reality tv channel, whether it's Discovery, Spike, Bravo, HGTV, eat al, or any sporting event, whether it's NFL, MLB, NHL and in some cases, NBA, all you hear is rock music during the highlights, commercial breakaways and comebacks, etc.

The concert scene, outside of the superstar acts, isn't what it was 20 or 30 years ago but it hasn't disappeared and never will.

EDM doesn't play as an underscore.

You are probably right. I rarely pay much attention to that stuff but I'd say you're right. I guess growing up in a different age I just remember all the "arena rock" bands thy could fill stadiums in every city they played. I guess it's less about filling arenas and more about people buying singles etc now a days. I must be a dinosaur and just realized it lol.

How in the hell Dokken ever became a revered band I will never understand. Is Lynch that awesome? No. His tone is as generic and shitty as the rest of that band. Don Dokken? Please. Horrible lyrics and a voice that makes Rod Stewart sound "edgy" by comparison.
****ing horrible group.
God-awful.
LMAO

I wasn't close enough to get any decent shots of her with my phone. Didn't stop me from taking a bunch, though. :D

Her momma must be a real piece of work

That's cute. Try the Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe, the Yardbirds, the Byrds, James Brown, the Temptations, Steppenwolf, the Doors, CCR, Eagles (backing up Linda Ronstadt), and bunch I can't remember. It may be just Alzheimer's or I might just be getting old. Those were something to remember.

Hey "old man" I know all about most of those bands and love much of it as we'll... so I don't need a lecture

If its too loud, you're too old... Old Man

I did six albums on the last year for the biggest music library production company in the world. ALL 80's rock. Glam, Arena, Ballads, etc.

They gave me specific examples but the tracks had to be at least 10 beats per minute faster or slower and be in a completely different key, but still invoke the original. A verified musicologist had to sign off on every track, to avoid copyright infringement and I had to redo probably ten of the 72.

Suffice to say, many of those tracks are just killing it for us. The Def Leppard tracks are already doing well but so are the Whitesnake, Ratt, Priest and Skid Row (the Monkey Business track came out bad ass).

Anyway, despite what people say, rock is not dead.

Great story Dane, glad you chimed in... Rock isn't dead, but it would sure be nice if the industry paid attention again

Looks like a really fun show. I avoid indoor concerts though. Something about fire and not being able to get to the exits.

Rock is far from dead as you said. You just have to look a little harder for it at times.

Rival Sons, Jonathon Tyler, Volbeat (fairly mainstream) and many other bands are a blast and write great music.

May be a theme for another thread altogether, people posting songs from their favorite rock bands others likely dont listen to.

I saw Great White earlier in the year before The Station show in Rhode Island that killed all those people (99 I think it was).

In a strange twist about 5 years later I was on a conference call with a company called Lang Naturals out of Rhode Island and dealing with this asshole named Jeff Derdarian. I ended up asking another guy who worked for Lang Naturals what the deal was with that guy and why he was such an asshole. ( In more polite terms). That guy asks have you ever heard of The Station Nightclub fire? I knew what he was talking about immediately.
Turns out he was one of 2 brothers who owned The Station. Word was his brother who wasn't married and didn't have kids took the fall and went to jail so his brother could stay out of jail. The Lang brothers new the Derdarian Brothers growing up and gave him a job after the fire and trial.

Anyway in a nutshell the guy was a dick even before I knew who he was.

There was some meathead bouncer that was not letting people use the stage exit because it was for the band only. That douchebag is still alive and never spent 1 day in jail.

I'd definitely like to see Ratt here in Washington if they come to an outdoor venue.

Just this week I'm driving down the road at work, and Pandora brings this song up out of the depths of the past -

 God bless Mick Mars and his gritty, raunchy style

But Warren DeMartini is THE guitar God of the 80s
