I think you are right, I heard he had negotiated that before signing.

if it was a contract between him and the Cardinals, surely they can work out going down to get right without involving the players association?

A player cannot be optioned after 5 years of Major League service time.

Holland's arm is shot. It was gone his last year in Kansas City, it was obvious then.

well then they and him have to come up with some BS to go on a DL rehab assignment. We can’t allow him to pitch like he has in games so he can get back on track. This team just isn’t good enough to lose games while he gets in game shape.

Yet he lead the league in saves last year.

Not true.

Holland would need to approve a temporary move back to the minors to finish working on his pitches. If he did let the Cardinals option him down, he would need to remain in the minors for 10 days unless a pitcher on the 25-man roster sustained an injury.

And he broke down in August last year. Holland's that old car that you got back a running and it did okay for a while then when it finally breaks down again you are screwed.

Sucks the Cards spend the money they did on him. Granted it's going rate for a closer and lucky it's only one year.

Its only one year because Hicks is in the wings. Its more money than he is worth but the beauty is they don't absolutely need him for the whole season.

He is just filling a gap for now.

Get him in shape, use him sparingly (with Matheny yea right) and have him healthy and fresh if they make a run.

$15 million risk total for a proven bullpen arm even if on the decline was a good deal. Everyone in baseball thought it was a great deal for the Cardinals. The Cardinals are sitting in piles of money. We weren’t counting on him when they started the season. Don’t cry for us.

Hicks could be the best closer in baseball in a few months. And he will be playing for meal money. And we got 6 years of control left.

I don’t ever recall a veteran major leaguer approving a move such as that, but I could be wrong. Why would he want to go back to the AAA lifestyle when he gets his paycheck either way?

He fell apart in August right around when he cut a finger on his pitching hand which gives me some hope.

Give Holland some time to get his shit together before totally burying him. Remember how idiots were burying Pham based on his ST performance? Don't be that guy.

Jewish Rabbi 04-19-2018 01:06 PM

Weaver getting completely shit on today. Won’t make it past 3. And we sent our only long reliever down today so O’Neill could sit on the bench.

Pasta Little Brioni 04-19-2018 01:08 PM

Matheny the abomination
