I went the exact opposite direction a while back, makes a big difference.

I'm putting 18's on my car later this year, thinking I'll try to stick to a 27" tire on back.

You're full of shit. You got interested when he posted it and googled it. Now you are an expert that knew it all the whole time.

You didnt know that lotus was in on it previously for sure. (I did , why do you think a lotus collector has it, but left that out on purpose ) or else you would have said that from the beginning .

It should have been a 325/50.... but rims are a consideration must be 9"-11" rims and sidewall clearance may be an issue

Hoosier DOT Drag Radial Tires 17318DR2 325/50R15

........................................old 275/60 new 325/50 9"-11"

I used to use the Miata calculator but it sucks now.

I wanted to go to a smaller tire to see how it would work with my setup, I didnt need such a tall tire.

Also, 325s wont fit without me beating the **** out of the wheel wells, 275s are just fine for me, since I have so much suspension thats all I need to dead hook at my power level. My guess is I can pull the wheels a tiny bit on the track.. will find out later this year.

Terrible

Next on the list is of course cam/pushrods/valve springs/lifter trays, TBSS intake manifold, blacked out front grill and bumper.. and see if I can find someone to trade these 22 inch wheels for a set more my style in 20 so I can run a little taller tire.

Thinking SS OEMS/Reps or other more 'muscle' type wheels than these tunerish wheels.

I've always used the 3M method. Is it paint or tape? I can't tell from the picture:D:D but you're going to have to glaze it at minimum.

Its pin stripe paint over the clearcoat, hand drawn, has a 2012 watermark on it. Im not going to do any abrasion on it, if it comes to that id rather take it to the body shop.

yea they can be sexy. I have some work to do on this one to get it to where I want it, but its what the TA was supposed to be.. a driver. Not daily.. but I can take it out in nice weather and have AC, normal tires so I can drive in the rain if need be, etc.

cooper barrett 01-28-2018 08:34 PM

I would go with a clay bar, aggressive then fine, and lots of soapy water, glide of you like and see what it does. I've done this with sucess but only once

The 3M eraser is also a great tool as it is a friction not a abrasive, meaning it may take the stripe but it won't damage the clear. It may not be aggressive enough like the clay bar. I've used a lot on tape and principles say it works for paint applied over clearcoats

Then your into chemicals, either easy off, acetone, or thinner and lots of washing. You don't want to be aggressive as the clear will give a little along with the typical striping paint. Easy does it. You will have to hand polish, glaze, and wax no matter what you do even clay bar. but it will be minimal.

If the stripes are chemically bonded to the clear you will be color sanding and polishing. not only to remove but to level the paint.

It all depends on the paint and the prep. It there a name on the design? is that all the pin striping there was?

Not sure if this is the right thread... but the heater core in my 04 Wrangler is going out. I get a fishy antifreeze smell coming from the vents every time i turn the thing on.

I've called two local mechanics so far, one quoted me about $550 give or take, and another quoted me about $750 because they'd have to do something with the air conditioner/freon. The AC blows just fine and is cold in minutes after turning it on. Most Wrangler online forums haven't mentioned anything about messing with the AC while doing this job.

I have 3 options here:
Bite the bullet and fork over the cash (I'll go with the cheaper quote, but i don't want to get hit with a bunch of hidden costs)

Attempt to fix it myself (I've done all the other mechanical work on the car, it's actually not a bad car to work on) but it appears to be a mofo and a labor intensive job for such a cheap part.

Trade the car in (it's old, impractical and i want a Truck)

Anyone know anything about this?

SAUTO 02-13-2018 04:03 PM

easiest way to replace it is to pull the whole evap box IIRC, which is why they wanted to evacuate and recharge the AC system. i would ask the first shop if that was included in their estimate...

its about a 2.5-3 hour job

cooper barrett 02-13-2018 10:07 PM

There are always quality and supply points which make prices vary. A dealer or OEM manufacturer part vs Chinese, still see the bud logo, junk. There is no way I can see of doing the job but disconnecting the evaporator./ servicing the AC.

If you want to DYI, it doesn't look bad, but take it to a shop for an evacuation before starting the job and then return to vacuum test before replacing refrigerant. He should just reinstall your old R134a depending on his equipment.* Replacing O rings and blower motor couldn't hurt along with a good cleaning.

*I used to sell AC service equipment but I am sure things have changed since those days. I am not a fan of dumping even R134a into the air or recharging without leak testing. IJS you can DIY if you choose.

Good luck

haven't yet.

Im looking for the right thing in a matte black back ground and a machined face double dark tint.

But there isn't much out there.
I was in kc at the hubcap and wheel store with Tony today actually and we looked at some kmc somewhat like the last ones but in. DDT.

He's going to go through some more options and email them to me in the next couple days.

We are very picky.

I sold my '73 Corvette that I had for a number of years back in September and bought a '17 Mustang GT with the 6 speed.

As I am getting into my mid 40's, I have back problems, among other aches and pains, and I was getting tired of tinkering with it...laying on the garage floor, getting filthy etc. That, and I don't have the free time anymore. I think I am done with old cars.

New Mustang is a real hoot to drive though, great power and all the creature comforts. I like it a lot. :)

Good news is I got a cam ordered along with finding a place to port the heads. The motor is completely torn apart. New crank and bearings going in, flat top pistons are going back in. Sending the TBI unit off to get cleaned up, shaved down, and larger injectors.

Can anyone ID this car?

Yeah, It had me stumped, I Googled it, with no answer, I remembered what it is and followed up to get the model and the year correct, now I want to challenge the gearheads...Year is not really important but must be close.(hint, pre-bolt ons) OK bonus point if you nail the year.

No extra credit for posting pictures of the model but could be fun.

Sweet. Where'd you buy the Wilwoods? Summit im guessing? Im a Wilwood distributor and even I buy our Wilwood kits through my Summit wholesale account. While the cost of the parts are slightly cheaper direct w/ Wilwood, Summit doesn't charge shipping, which is about $75, which ultimately makes it cheaper buying through Summit.

Summit is basically Walmart. It's difficult to compete with their pricing.

I can't argue with that logic, you could have said pink and in someone's mind you would be right.

I gave you the hint " pre bolt ons" so that means it's an early model

And yes it is a Mercedes SLS AMG not the SLS GT AMG. and the first production year was 2011 =. your pics were later models.

The wheels being all silver and the dark calipers is the only way to tell. You could get the red but it was standard the next year.

While the cost of the parts are slightly cheaper direct w/ Wilwood, Summit doesn't charge shipping, which is about $75, which ultimately makes it cheaper buying through Summit.

Summit is basically Walmart. It's difficult to compete with their pricing.

I used Speedway because they were the only ones that had exactly what I needed in stock. typically use Summit or Jegs.

Yea the savings on shipping makes it well worth while. Speedway has free shipping too on orders over $100.

Had to do some light machining to adapt the parking brake brackets to my cables and to get spacing right on the caliper brackets but I got it all buttoned up today.

Brakes were decent before, they are absolutely great now and I gained a ton of clearance.

You posted pictures of a higher performance car, the SLS GT AMG, not the SLS AMG. When this car was made, the GT wasn't made yet.

That is a nice set up,
I like see studs like that when spacers are needed. Did you need those spacers for clearance before/ after the upgrade?

What's on the other axle?

What are you using for pads? I used to run some green stuff friction (not the EBC pads they sell now) that was awesome stuff back in the day.

I put exactly 1k miles on her last year. Really glad I bought that tune at the end of last summer. Seemed to do more than I thought for the car. Insurance just came due and $249 for a year is such a bargain.

Finally got to take her out on a nice drive after a month of sitting due to being so busy this last month.

$249 a year? Is it in grandma's mane or a vehicle with no assigned driver?

Good looking ride, for a Ford.

It’s a seldom driven car and it qualifies for “classic” car insurance through Grundy. No mileage limiting on driving though. Just have to prove it’s not your daily driver and set it’s estimated value.

Took me forever to get it. The SLS part was too easy...soft top gave it away. not being two toned on the steering wheel was how I got the year.

hmm classic? I have my 240Z's insured through Hagargy same set up.

Does my 2004 SLK qualify? I'd love to get that off my main policy. Same coverage as your daily with set max value?

I had a claim through Hagarty, Total loss. They were straight up, have been there for 15 years maybe longer

I think it would. You should call them.

"Classic" is a loose term as they explained. Just really has to be a seldom driven car that you put a total value on. Have to prove you have other daily drivers that you use. I put a total value of the car at $18k with the modifications it has and low miles (29k). Yearly fee determined by replacement part costs and such. Ford is pretty cheap there which helps.

Coverage of 100k bodily injury, 40k uninsured motorist, $500 deductible for parts.

You need to read your policy and make sure it doesn't say this: dated 9-17

No Mileage Limitations: You can use your vehicle in collector activities, exhibits and parades without any mileage restrictions.

Mine (my Haggerty policies) give me the same coverage as my primary car and had to show coverages (fax declaration sheet). I assume you did the same? They gave me an option to reduce the liability, which i did not do, because I carry very high limits. there were no options, what I covered my primary car with is what they insured them for. My mileage is not unlimited but is instead Not a daily driver or commuting vehicle... There are no mileage numbers listed. I read that on newer cars they max at 2500 miles.

So you have a 100k/300k/100k with 40K uninsured bodily injury? $500 parts deductible. How is that considered a parts deductible? Mine is comprehensive and covers anything even caustic bird poop. :D:D:D (I had a go round with Farmers 30 years ago over this.) Is that the same coverage as your DD or where you able to pick deductible and liability limits?

I was looking at their website and it said to be on "collector" policy it has to be over 25 years old. So, I guess they are increasing their base by underwriting/ insuring "classic" cars. I see where they will write policies on new cars under another (MVP) program.

I just went and got my Haggerty bill and there was a notation on the second page that they will accept "select" newer "classic" vehicles and noted that even if my 2005 wasn't a super car, it was accepted and to call for a quote. So I guess they are all doing that now.

Thanks for the heads up on Classic Insurance. I probably would have missed it again next year if you didn't mention it. I'm not changing co's as I like where I am and like I said I had a $20K claim and they were straight forward and fast. They also didn't raise my rate when I replaced it on the policy or renewed other cars.

There is a funny letter posted on one of my car sites where Grundy turned down a customer for listing on his application a 2010 Trek bicycle, along with another car, and because they couldn't confirm insurance on it they denied him coverage...ROFLROFLROFLROFL

Check out Billet Specialties Street Lites. Very affordable and would look much more modern on your car.

As much as I'd love to, that's not happening right now. Got a formula sucker and diaper wetter in the house.

Funny thing is that I mentioned changing the wheels to my FIL last year. He couldn't believe why I'd do that. He likes to tell this story. When he bought the car new in 2005 he wanted some nice chrome wheels. He was looking for the ones on the car but was having trouble locating them, American Racing is the brand. He had to special order them from Florida and they were one of the "last" sets available anywhere in the US. He paid $2500 for them back in 2005 but he would have spent more because they are solid and great looking wheels.

He's also turning 72 this year and I think the look reminds him of his younger days. He also had a huge, fluffy steering wheel cover on the car at all times.

Im reading that as the denied him coverage because they missed the sebring and wouldn't accept a bicycle as his daily transportation. So in their minds the viper had to be.

Where do you get they denied him coverage due to not insuring the bike?
