Too bad they ****ed around and lost that winnable Kentucky game. Then they'd be looking at (a reasonable shot at) an 8-4 finish and a somewhat respectable bowl instead of whatever piece of crap they end up getting.

But after the the past couple of disastrous seasons I guess the whogivesashit.com bowl is better than nothing.

Looks like my boy Drew did pretty darn well. Woot!

Demonpenz 11-12-2017 12:05 AM

That is a lot of heart out of those kids.

Would be against a Big 12 team.

Would be fun to have an extra incentive for a Beale Street NYE. Looks like ESPN projected us to play K State in the Liberty Bowl last weekend as well.

****Official 2017 Missouri Tigers Football Thread****

I'm amazed at this turnaround. I thought the steps Barry Odom was taking heading into the UGa game were signs of a coach who was spinning out of control and about to lose it.

But he deserves major credit for righting the ship, keeping his team from quitting, and finding a way to move forward.

Yes, Missouri is in the soft part of its schedule. Yes, a major opportunity was missed (play like this from the start, and Missouri is definitely the winner against South Carolina, Kentucky, and Purdue, which puts them in position to potentially win 10 games... the type of season that would have allowed them to make a major impact in recruiting THIS year.

But still... closing the season with 7 straight wins, which looks possible now, would be an awesome step forward for Odom and his staff and give them the opportunity to build this program back up.

It probably won't resonate heavily in the current recruiting class, but they can take this momentum into the 2018 season and 2019 recruiting class.

Half of the official depth chart is players from recruiting classes Odom was involved with, and there are 6-8 additional players getting major minutes who qualify two. He hasn't signed flashy classes, but they have shown an ability to find guys who are underrated, which is a key skill for a Missouri coaching staff.

IF Drew Lock returns, this team could have a really special season in Year 3. They'll almost certainly lose Terry Beckner, Jr, which is a huge blow to the defensive front, but the offense would return:

Lock
Rountree/Crockett
Jon Johnson, hall, Richard Floyd
Albert O/Blanton
9/10 of OL two-deep

That's incredibly exciting.

Who are these frickin’ guys?

Al Bundy 11-12-2017 10:57 AM

MU got Butch Jones fired.

I admit Im surprised they are playing this well. The schedule has helped as they got a few cupcakes followed by teams that have totally collapsed, but they cant control that and still took care of business. Its good not seeing them being a complete laughing stock. KU and Nebraska have that all to to themselves now.

Do you think they'd be able to stop Benny Snell right now?

I hate hindsight like this. Fact of the matter is Mizzou didn't play well enough against any of those three teams to win. Odom and Co. deserve a lot of credit for going on a nice streak and potentially(probably) going to a bowl game. But you cannot just ignore the 1-5 start as well who their 4-0 streak is against. The most wins any of their opponents, of teams they have left to play or have beaten, could finish with in the season is 6.

BryanBusby 11-12-2017 02:47 PM

I think people are getting a bit too optimistic after running the table against some trash teams.

Precisely.

I think it is a good sign that the team didn't just mail it in and finish with 4 wins and Odom deserves a lot of credit for that. However, do you(general you, not individually you, BB) really think that the quality of their opponents is not a major reason as to why they have won 4 straight?

I think there is a difference between winning four straight and beating the **** out of four straight teams, especially when you lost and/or struggled against similar teams earlier in the year.
