I'm not sure why you wouldn't do the pins with a car that fast.

I have no plans to get any where near its top speed of 185MPH.

No one else needs to know that with your real hood pins. :D

Okay, I'm pulling the trigger on putting fake hood pins on the new ride. I can just pull it off at any time without any damage to the paint. I cant bring myself to drill holes in my hood.
I'm going old school like the 71 Challenger. 3 inches from the side and 6 inches back from the front.

I love that color.. that looks 10,000 times better than any Mustang.

And what makes you think I can just get another hood later. There are only a 1000 available. Some will be totaled in a year, some will never be sold, some hoods will be damaged. Your down to 500 maybe.

Get the spare hood now and put the pins in it.

Because the law requires manufacturers to have adequate spares for 10 years, you can go through 100 hoods if you wished.

Yeah they don't just make 1000 hoods for 1000 cars...

4 hour detail job on the Stang today. Wash with optimum no rinse since it wasn't super dirty, clay bar (virgin), Polish with DA polisher and meguiar's 205 along with some hand polishing in funky side panels, wipe down with 10% isopropyl alcohol, one coat opti gloss coat. Reps for whoever recommended the opti gloss coat. I bought it for $60. It's super easy to apply, like putting butter on the paint. It streaks easily though and must be followed with microfiber to buff streaks before it cures. Not sure how'd you see those streaks on light car though. Easy on black. One tube did exactly whole care. Thanks for the help guys.

Anyone know when I can wax over the opti gloss coat?

You can easily fix the factory hood at not too bad a cost.

If you want hood pins, do hood pins.

If you wont drill the holes, don't do hood pins. Fake hood pins on a high $ car? Thats simply ridiculous IMO.

I have been holding off commenting because BRC is spending the big bucks for this bad ass car and he should do with it what ever he wants to. But since he put it out here for our opinions I will give mine. Don't put BS fake crap on such a fine car that is perfect in all ways right off the showroom floor. Put real hood pins on or nothing although I wouldn't even put real pins on it.

"Fake functional" items are a big no-no :P

BigRedChief 04-25-2015 07:50 PM

So you guys really hate fake hood pins huh?
