Tons of easy points in that match. Very few rallies like these two.

These are definitely 2 of the top 5 defensive players in the history of the sport. Maybe top 3?

Without question.

Yea, I agree. Very different situations.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:21 AM

Nadal is the greatest fighter/defensive player in the game's history to me. He's won 10 majors (and counting) using this style.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:21 AM

Seriously, how many games do you think they can go without just completely falling over? Do you see this ending soon?

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:22 AM

I really have no idea who is going to win this match or when it's going to happen.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:24 AM

If I was forced to bet on it, I'd pick Nadal but this thing could go awhile.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:26 AM

Nadal saves another break point...he's just so clutch.

kcxiv 01-29-2012 08:28 AM

Broke him. Novak seving forthe win

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:28 AM

Wow...a Nadal unforced error gives Novak the break. Never would have thought. Of course...Nadal has been in this situation before and fought out of it.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:31 AM

Vlade Divac giving the standing ovation...two points away.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:32 AM

Nadal with an incredible return on that serve to even get that back...wins the point for him.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:33 AM

Wow, Djokovic misses the easy putaway after dominating the point.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:34 AM

Where the hell is Nadal getting this energy from? Amazing.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:34 AM

OMG, how does he keep tracking these shots down after 5 hours? I simply cannot believe it.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:36 AM

This match is absolutely insane.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:38 AM

Incredible win by Novak Djokovic. One of the best tennis matches I've ever seen.

Al Bundy 01-29-2012 08:38 AM

The grunting is awful... now I know why I never watch tennis. ohh and game.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:38 AM

Feel bad for Rafa, but Novak is an unbelievable champion. Neither one would give up.

DBOSHO 01-29-2012 08:40 AM

I ****ing hate djokovic.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:41 AM

Novak has come so far from just a few years ago. He just out-willed the greatest fighter in the sport's history. He's become one of tennis' greats as well.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:42 AM

Yea, don't really see how anyone could hate him. He plays hard and seems to show a lot of respect for the game.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:43 AM

No reason to hate him. He was a bit arrogant back in 2008 (when he first won this title and when the thread was made), but his attitude has changed as he's matured and improved as a player.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:46 AM

5 hours and 53 minutes of sprinting around and hitting shots with power as they did. Just an absurd level of athleticism.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:50 AM

Finally getting them chairs. Took long enough.

Earthbound 01-29-2012 08:50 AM

Considering the excitement of the match, this has to be the most boring couple speeches ever.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 08:52 AM

The umpire gets a trophy too. Doesn't seem fair...he didn't do much other than having the best seat in the house for this match.

KC_Connection 01-29-2012 09:00 AM

This sets up for a tremendous 2012 tennis season now. Barring injuries, I think you can expect these two to be right there at the very end throughout it. Excited for the French Open now for sure.

Silock 01-29-2012 09:04 AM

Well damn. Was rooting for Nadal. Awesome match, though. Historic.

Could be. His 1st round match is on now

Djokovic and Wawrinka in the 5th set, match is about to pass the 4 hour mark. Great match so far.

Live on espn2.

CoMoChief 01-20-2013 08:02 AM

This thread reminded me of how much I don't give a shit about tennis.

there are some hot russian/euro female tennis players though.

AussieChiefsFan 01-20-2013 08:30 AM

Every year I give less of a shit about the Australian Open (and watching tennis in general), but I always find myself watching a few games.

This match just hit the 5 hour mark. Spectacular.

alpha_omega 01-20-2013 08:42 AM

Djokovic survives.

AussieChiefsFan 01-20-2013 08:44 AM

Good finish to that match though. But woulda been nice if Wawrinka won

KC_Connection 01-20-2013 06:13 PM

That Djokovic/Wawrinka match was one of the highest quality tennis matches I've seen over the last year. Wawrinka was fantastic and yet Djokovic was slightly better in the end, but it's hard to see that not impacting him in his remaining matches.

Yeah I was expecting a better second set from her after getting beat down in the first. Yeah it's cool to see a young American doing something. Having Isner as current young guy drives me crazy because I can't handle how pissed/whiney he gets on court at times.

Isner is 27. Not so young. The closest thing US tennis has to a young gun these days is Ryan Harrison.

Yeah I don't mind Harrison. I guess the better term for Isner is "new on the scene", since he went the college route. Jack Sock doesn't seem too bad either.

KC_Connection 01-24-2013 12:15 AM

Azarenka better get her choking symptoms checked out before it's too late and she goes full blown Almagro out there.

KC_Connection 01-24-2013 04:53 AM

Djokovic completely dominates Ferrer in the SF with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 scoreline. Novak was great, but Ferrer really has nothing to hurt him with. It's when you see noncompetitive matches like this in a slam SF that you know the sport misses Nadal.

Fed/Murray tomorrow should be much more interesting.

NJChiefsFan 01-24-2013 06:00 AM

Yeah should be a good measuring stick for where Fed is at. You know he wants revenge on Murray.

Buck 01-27-2013 02:02 AM

Djokovic vs Murray on right now.

RyFo18 01-27-2013 02:06 AM

Have my money on Murray. Don't know that he'll necessarily win but I think it's the right play getting +175 odds.

Earthbound 01-27-2013 03:49 AM

Anyone up watching?

I'm kind of watching on and off. Although it's only 9pm here.

I'm at work, so I am watching on the tv up here.

AussieChiefsFan 01-27-2013 06:10 AM

Murrey seems to be struggling with his leg.

KC_Connection 01-27-2013 06:27 AM

Not quite the epic from last year, but now the first person to win three consecutive Aussie Opens, Novak Djokovic. Adding on to his already incredibly impressive career with a sixth slam.

Blister in his foot affected him, it seems. It's too bad because I think it would have been far closer otherwise like the USO. But tennis is a game of endurance as much as anything and Novak won that aspect of it today.

Yea I had no idea what his actual injury was, but I saw him holding his hamstring, so I assumed.

alpha_omega 01-12-2014 06:19 PM

2014 first round on Espn.

KC_Connection 01-12-2014 06:24 PM

Djokovic got a great draw this year, but Nadal may have the mental edge from his last 2 slam wins over him.

Djokovic 2nd round on now.

With his draw? Probably not. Could even lose to Tsonga next week in the R16.

His game just isn't at the super elite level of Nadal/Djokovic right now anyway and likely never will be again.

I would love to see that, but i agree...probably not.

It is likely that he won't win another major.

KC_Connection 01-16-2014 12:58 AM

Federer putting on a masterclass right now. Granted, it's against a player ranked 100.

Serena has a real challenge on her hands. Good tennis.

alpha_omega 01-18-2014 10:17 PM

Ok, now Serena is on the ropes. Good play from Ivanovic.

alpha_omega 01-18-2014 10:24 PM

#1 goes down.

kcxiv 01-19-2014 02:56 AM

Ana is no slouch herself she's a former number 1, thenh ad some injuries and i think a little partying slowed her down. lol

The post match interview was hilarious. Serena kept talking about giving Ana all the credit, then make excuses for 3 min, then say, but Ana played a great match all the credit to her! lol she must have done that 3 times in the interview.

Jimmya 01-19-2014 07:05 AM

Tough to lose for Serena.

MahiMike 01-19-2014 08:38 AM

Mayer taking it to ferrer.

KC_Connection 01-20-2014 04:21 AM

Federer dominating Tsonga with a level I haven't seen from him in over a year. Much more aggressive. Interesting.

KC_Connection 01-21-2014 04:33 AM

Djokovic down 2 sets to 1 to Wawrinka. Not looking good for him either. Second year in a row that Stan has pushed him to this point.
